Chapter 303: Chapter 302: Melee
Flashbangs—Yang Yi was more accustomed to calling them flash grenades.
Unexpectedly, it wasn’t a high-explosive fragmentation grenade but two flashbangs. Yang Yi got hit; his eyes temporarily blinded and his ears buzzing incessantly, unable to hear anything.
Luckily the space in the boxing gym was very large, otherwise, those two flashbangs might have already made Yang Yi pass out.
The enemy’s combat skills were very proficient, and the timing of the flashbangs was perfectly controlled. They exploded mid-air just as they were thrown out of the doorway, leaving Yang Yi no chance to dodge. As soon as the flashbangs detonated, gunshots erupted from that doorway.
Zhang Yong’s gun went off, followed by Xiao Ran’s.
A few seconds later, Yang Yi could start to see blurry shapes; his vision was beginning to recover.
Then Yang Yi saw a person lying at the doorway, and as he was just starting to understand what had happened, a FAMAS bullpup assault rifle was extended from behind the door, sweeping fire in the direction of Yang Yi and his team.
The gun was extended out, but not the person, yet even so, Yang Yi and his team had to immediately take cover.
At that moment, the person brandishing the gun yelled, followed by several hand grenades being thrown out.
Zhang Yong was reloading his magazine. Yang Yi raised his pistol and fired twice towards the doorway, then he ducked behind a boxing ring.
Yang Yi noticed that only he and Kate had ducked down, so he immediately stood up again and aimed at the doorway.
Brian and his two teammates finished clearing the first room and were now turning back to attack the room that had been persistently exchanging fire.
Brian signaled, and Paul and Charles each took out a hand grenade, holding them for a moment before simultaneously throwing them.
Explosions resounded incessantly; both sides were throwing hand grenades, and soon a layer of smoke began to fill the boxing gym.
But the gym was vast, and throwing hand grenades from inside to the gym hall didn’t offer precise control, as the people inside couldn’t show their heads. However, when the grenades thrown by Paul and Charles entered the smaller room, the resulting destruction was magnified.
With two explosions almost simultaneous, the person who had been blocking the doorway with his gun cried out, his body involuntarily leaning forward, half-exposing himself. By the time he regained control of his body and tried to retract, it was too late.
Six gunshots sounded at once; even Yang Yi seized the opportunity to fire a shot, not to mention Brian and his team.
Brian gestured again, and immediately two more hand grenades were thrown out, and at this time, Brian and his three teammates were also quickly advancing towards the room occupied by the enemy.
Indoor battles had to be fast, absolutely not giving the enemy time and opportunity to react.
Firing accurately was also critical in indoor combat because at face-to-face distances, even poor marksmanship could hit a target. And since both sides were clearly proficient in indoor fighting, merely hitting the enemy without striking a vital point was inadequate. Failing to incapacitate the enemy instantly could lead to being shot in return.
But at least four members of the Organization of Water were elite experts in indoor combat. They were fast and accurate.
Moreover, the Organization of Water had a significant advantage—they were the ones initiating the attack. After catching the enemy off guard, they firmly held the initiative.
Paul and Charles were at the forefront, about to enter, so Yang Yi put away his gun, but at that moment, Charles, who was leading the charge, stumbled, and immediately after, Paul faltered as well.
Paul and Charles immediately returned fire, then Brian, without hesitation, threw three more hand grenades into the room.
After waiting for the grenades to explode, Brian immediately rushed in, and then his rifle fired continuously.
Brian quickly made a hand signal, indicating that the space inside was large. Zhang Yong and Yang Yi immediately rushed in, while Mike gestured to Xiao Ran, indicating her to seal off the other doors that hadn’t been checked yet.
The gym had a spacious interior with many rooms, and before each one could be cleared, they all needed to be watched carefully to prevent surprise attacks.
Yang Yi rushed in, but Brian, after firing shots, retreated from the room, taking cover by the door.
Zhang Yong and Yang Yi came to stand behind Brian.
"It’s a continuous space inside with more people. This is the perfect opportunity to use a grenade. Be careful,"
Brian whispered, but Yang Yi was looking at Paul and Charles.
Charles’s head was bleeding, the blood running down his face and obscuring his right eye, yet Charles still held his gun, steady and focused on the doorway.
Paul seemed unhurt at a glance, but Yang Yi had seen him stumble during the charge, indicating he had likely been shot.
Gesturing for Zhang Yong and Yang Yi to step back a bit, Brian suddenly started stomping his feet rapidly on the spot, as if he were running into the room.
It was a child’s trick, but this childish trick worked.
Paul suddenly fired a shot, followed by a pained cry from inside, then panicked shouting, and soon after, a grenade that had fallen to the floor was kicked out, but Charles quickly dove to the ground, caught the sliding grenade, and threw it back in.
As Charles slid out, Paul abruptly stood and charged forward, while Brian also turned and entered the room.
Zhang Yong followed closely behind Brian.
The grenade exploded, the enemy’s own grenade blowing them up.
Paul was the first to burst in, firing immediately. Brian was right behind him, but after Paul’s rifle jammed after the first shot, Brian let out a shout and then held down the trigger, before tossing the rifle aside, drawing his pistol and continuing to fire.
A chaotic fight ensued.
The situation within was beyond anyone’s imagination; by the time Brian rushed inside, he discovered the room was hiding no less than twenty or so people.
Brian shot and felled two men, but a chair was hurled toward him with a whoosh.
At close range, rifles were cumbersome or virtually unusable. Brian could still fire, but he would be hit by the chair, and even if he killed the enemy, he would still be hit.
Brian used his rifle to block the chair, then let go, allowing both the rifle and chair to fall, drew his pistol with his right hand, dodged another chair aimed at his head, stood up, and fired a shot.
Turning around, his gun barrel was almost against an enemy’s forehead as he fired, then Brian sidestepped another incoming object, and fired again.
Both sides engaged in a fierce melee within the cramped space.
The enemies were numerous, truly skilled, and incredibly strong. They all made accurate judgments and the most rational counterattacks, but most of them were unarmed.
The enemies were actually unarmed, and the last one to enter, Zhang Yong, was armed, and he also had space to fire.
