Chapter 289: Chapter 288: Taking the Initiative
Back in Paris, Yang Yi had shelled out the money to buy Schultz a laptop, the best configuration available, which altogether cost no less than five thousand US dollars—a top-of-the-line computer.
Ever since he got the computer, Schultz had been holed up in his room, swamped with work, and hadn’t stepped out again.
The most needed person had been found, and it was time to make a move.
But before leaving Paris, Yang Yi still had to make arrangements for Boer.
In Mexico, a bunch of underlings were left hanging around, and now there was Boer to add to the mix. Yang Yi felt like he might as well start a shelter, as there were hardly any useful people among them—just a pile of idle ones. However, one needed to take a longer view; though they were useless now, they might come in handy in the future.
Besides, it wasn’t as if it cost much to settle these people.
Yang Yi entered Boer’s room, took out a thousand US dollars in cash, and said to Boer, who was lying motionless on the bed, "We’re leaving."
Boer responded weakly, "Hmm, got it."
"From now on, I’ll give you a thousand US dollars every month. The rent is paid for three years, so all you need to do is look after yourself."
Yang Yi placed a thousand US dollars on Boer’s bedside table and then said in a deep voice, "Pull yourself together."
Boer sat up, then looking at Yang Yi with a look of resignation, said, "What’s a thousand dollars good for?"
Yang Yi spread his hands and said, "It’s not bad; it’s enough for food. You’re not a billionaire anymore. You should be content that you’re alive with food and drink."
Boer pouted, then suddenly turned to Yang Yi and said, "The first day, the day we met, I gave you a lot of chips, at least a hundred thousand US dollars’ worth, right? Give it back to me. I want just a hundred thousand!"
Yang Yi said seriously, "You owe me a hundred million US dollars."
As if his life was regrettable, Boer said, "I might as well have died in the United States."
"If you really want to die, I can help if you can’t do it yourself."
Boer glared at Yang Yi and then said earnestly, "A thousand US dollars a month really isn’t enough for anything. How about this—give me a hundred thousand US dollars, and I can use it to do something. Whether it’s buying stocks or funds, I can quickly make a comeback and pay you back the hundred thousand."
Yang Yi still spoke earnestly, "I know you’re capable of making money, but I’m worried you’ll take the money and run. Giving you a thousand dollars, if you decide to run, I won’t even bother stopping you. You want to make money, fine, but you’ll have to wait until I come back after handling my business."
Boer, feeling extremely helpless, said, "Then can you send me to the United Kingdom? This is Paris—everyone speaks French here, and I don’t speak French. At least put me somewhere I don’t have to learn a new language, okay?"
"That’s possible, after I’ve taken care of my business."
Boer lay back down, then turned his head away and said weakly, "Just go, fuck this damn world..."
After leaving Boer’s room, Yang Yi met back up with Mike and the others in another room and said in a low voice, "Now we can go to London."
Everyone stood up, and then Mike, in an understated manner, said, "Round up that kid who’s still online, and let’s head out."
Finally, it was Yang Yi’s first time taking the offensive, the Organization of Water’s first strike since its inception.
Yang Yi and his team were not carrying any weapons because they were flying to London. Weapons wouldn’t pass the security check, and it was very unlikely that a street fight would break out in London. There was hardly any chance of such a scenario, so they could just as well look for weapons after arriving in London.
This operation was relatively smooth, and at noon, Yang Yi and his companions disembarked their plane at London Heathrow Airport.
After disembarking, Yang Yi and his group didn’t head toward the city center; instead, they took a taxi westward, towards the outskirts, and finally, the cab dropped them off not far from Resbury Reservoir.
They walked for a while until they reached the water’s edge of Resbury Reservoir, where Yang Yi saw four cars parked.
The people in the cars also noticed Yang Yi and his group, and then four individuals got out of the cars one after another.
Yang Yi quickly walked up and excitedly embraced Danny, an old friend he hadn’t seen in a long time, then said with deep emotion, "Captain, it’s been too long."
Danny smiled and said in a somewhat awkward Mandarin, "It’s been a long time."
After embracing Yang Yi as well, Danny turned to Zhang Yong with a nostalgic look and said, "Old friend, it’s been a long time."
Zhang Yong replied irritably, "Who’s your old friend? You’re always causing me trouble."
Despite his obvious impatience, Zhang Yong still hugged Danny tightly. Meanwhile, Yang Yi exclaimed in surprise, "Xiao Feng! You’re okay, that’s great!"
Xiao Feng gave a wry smile and said, "Please, it’s been three years, right? My wounds healed a long time ago. How was it in prison? Did your ’chrysanthemum’ survive?"
Yang Yi let out a hearty laugh and gave Xiao Feng a punch, then slung an arm around his shoulder.
After vigorously shaking Xiao Feng a few times, Yang Yi turned to Wang Wenjiang and Ah Yao and shouted, "Brother Jiang, Brother Yao, how are you guys? Did you miss me?"
Wang Wenjiang said cheerfully, "Let’s see what you’ve learned in prison."
Yang Yi declared confidently, "Not now. Let’s settle it after we finish the job. Just be careful, you can’t call me ’Little Egg’ anymore, or it will be embarrassing for you if I handle you."
After some playful banter and laughter, Yang Yi pointed to Brian and his group and said, "These are my friends; they have special identities, so I won’t introduce them in detail. This one’s Owl, this is Cheese, this is Holy Water, he’s Skinning Knife, and she’s known as Blade Queen."
Since they were all from the underworld, and it was their first meeting, with no certainty of future interactions, Yang Yi didn’t disclose the real names of Brian’s group. Likewise, Yang Yi didn’t introduce Danny by name to them.
After a polite nod to each other, Danny immediately turned serious and said, "I’ve brought what you wanted. Let’s check the goods."
Danny didn’t deal in arms, but as a big fish in London, helping to supply some weapons was certainly within his ability.
Wang Wenjiang opened the door of an MPV, and Brian’s group went over to inspect the weapons Danny had brought, as Yang Yi continued to speak with Danny.
"Captain, what’s the situation like now?"
Danny replied angrily, "It’s the same old story. We’ve reached a non-aggression pact with the Destroyers, but their guys keep hanging around my restaurant. I can’t do a damn thing about it, and it’s driving me insane. You have to take care of the Destroyers at all costs this time."
In a low voice, Yang Yi assured, "Don’t worry. Bass won’t get away this time."
Danny exhaled, saying, "This time you have to act on your own; we can’t help much."
Yang Yi responded earnestly, "Captain, you’ve already helped me a lot. Thank you."
Danny waved his hand and said, "It’s for our own brother, no need for these pointless words. I just want you to clean up those losers from the Destroyers quickly; it’s been three years, and I’m absolutely sick of it! Really, sick to death!"
