Chapter 274 - 273 Fainted

Chapter 274: Chapter 273 Fainted

The car created a long trail of dust in the desert.

Zhang Yong glanced back several times, then sat up straight and sighed helplessly, "They all caught up, let’s head back to the highway. It’s no use running in the desert."

Yang Yi turned the wheel, directing the car back onto the highway.

Xiao Ran looked back angrily and exclaimed, "These persistent bastards, mercenaries who don’t value their lives at the sight of money, dammit! Damned mercenaries!"

"Hey, hey, I take offense to that. I’m a mercenary, but I’m not reckless for cash. If it really comes down to it, we should just dump this guy and forget about it. Otherwise, they’ll keep coming wave after wave, and we’ll eventually be done for. I don’t care about my lousy life, but you don’t want to die for a hundred million US dollars, do you?"

Xiao Ran said subconsciously, "That’s not an option."

"Look, now who’s being reckless for money?"

Xiao Ran retorted angrily, "That’s different!"

Yang Yi, feeling helpless, said, "Enough fighting. Can we focus on the very important task of escaping with our lives, please?"

Boer said with resignation, "Can we speak English, English!"

Xiao Ran huffed, unzipped the large bag, and pulled out her own sniper rifle. The distance between them and the enemy was still far, making the sniper rifle undoubtedly more suitable.

Zhang Yong looked back and observed, "They’re far, but the enemy seems faster than us."

Yang Yi glanced in the rearview mirror, where he could vaguely see the vehicles, but there was still a distance of about two kilometers. This was only possible in the desert, where good climate conditions and no other cars allowed such a far view. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been able to detect the enemy, let alone keep a constant watch on their movements.

After a while, Xiao Ran, holding binoculars out of the rear window, shouted, "There’s a sedan, going very fast. We won’t outrun them on the highway."

Yang Yi looked at the speedometer, which was already at 120 mph, not kilometers. Even so, they couldn’t shake off the pursuers behind them.

mph is equivalent to almost 190 kilometers per hour.

Yang Yi had already floored the gas pedal but couldn’t accelerate further. Moreover, the F150’s wide body was starting to skid. Unable to lose the pursuers even like this, he was truly out of options.

"I miss my M3..."

After sighing, Yang Yi decelerated sharply, then veered off into the desert beside the road.

The vehicle immediately began to bounce violently due to the excessive speed.

"What are you doing?"

Xiao Ran roared, then clutched her chest and said, "I’m getting carsick..."

"Ha, motion sickness, and carsickness too."

Xiao Ran snapped back, "I was using the binoculars to look behind us! If it had been you, you’d have thrown up already. Here, take over."

Yang Yi shouted, "We’re in a pickup truck, a big one! Whatever car they have, at least sedans can’t chase us into the desert, right? Let’s eliminate some of the pursuers first, damn it!"

Over a dune, the car driven by Yang Yi soared into the air before landing again, causing everyone inside to scream in fright, thinking the vehicle was about to flip over.

Fortunately, it landed steadily back on the ground.

Xiao Ran suddenly rolled down the window, stuck her head out, and started to vomit violently; she really was carsick, and severely so. Using binoculars in the car, which was shaking badly, was indeed enough to make someone prone to motion sickness, and Yang Yi’s sudden braking made Xiao Ran’s condition even worse. After the vehicle’s bouncy progression, Xiao Ran just couldn’t hold on any longer.

"Pull your head back in and puke in the car! Watch your head!"

Zhang Yong bellowed, Xiao Ran retracted her head, gasped for breath, and similarly yelled back, "No way! That’s disgusting!"

In annoyance, Zhang Yong said, "Women are such a hassle! What’s the problem with puking in the car? Ever seen a rotten corpse? I’ve slept next to corpses swarming with maggots, and have even drunk my own piss..."

Xiao Ran was initially not going to vomit anymore, but after Zhang Yong’s words, she stuck her head out again and retched several times, then she shouted, "Stop talking!"

Yang Yi could no longer mediate the bickering between Zhang Yong and Xiao Ran; he was focused on driving. The desert here was no longer just sand but was filled with numerous desert shrubs, and he had to concentrate fully on careful driving.

Xiao Ran pulled her head back in again, took a few breaths, and Boer passed her an opened bottle of water.

The vehicle jostled, water splashed on Xiao Ran, and Boer immediately said, "Sorry."

Xiao Ran took the bottle of water and loudly said, "It’s about time."

She gulped down the water, but most of it spilled on her. Xiao Ran rinsed her mouth and spat the water out the window then yelled, "Turn on Bluetooth!"

Yang Yi did not react, and Xiao Ran took out her own phone, and shouted again, "Turn on Bluetooth!"

"Come on, you’re not seriously going to play music now, are you?"

"Yes!"

"Please, now’s not the time!"

Xiao Ran angrily said, "These past few days, blood has been spraying like fountains in front of me, bullets flying over my head, and now we’ve got a whole bunch of people chasing us—a whole bunch! Soon we’ll have to fight those damned mercenaries again, and right now I’m scared out of my mind. You either let me listen to music to calm myself or you let me tremble so much I can’t hold a gun steady. You choose!"

Turns out, Xiao Ran was capable of fear too.

Yang Yi suddenly realized that Xiao Ran, just like him, was also a rookie. No, actually less experienced than him, because he had at least endured a life under extreme pressure in prison, while Xiao Ran had never faced a day of waking up to the threat of being hunted.

So it would have been surprising if Xiao Ran wasn’t scared; she was just good at hiding her fear.

Yang Yi shouted, "Turn on the Bluetooth for her."

Zhang Yong did not say anything, he had already turned on the car stereo and was looking to connect Xiao Ran’s phone through Bluetooth even before Yang Yi spoke up.

The connection to the phone was difficult and clumsy, but as soon as it was made, music immediately filled the cabin.

It was a piece by MASS, solemn and somber, very fitting for battle.

Xiao Ran bellowed, "Bring it on! I can fight again! Bring it on!"

Zhang Yong yelled at Yang Yi, "That slogan sounds like something out of a video game."

Yang Yi was exasperated; Zhang Yong truly had a knack for interrupting. No, this time his words didn’t count as an interruption, but they indeed had that effect.

Just then, Boer shouted something, but the volume of the stereo was at its highest, forcing him to yell again, "I said! The car behind us seems to have stopped!"

This time, Zhang Yong heard, he stuck his head out to look, and after Yang Yi checked the rearview mirror, he too noticed that the pursuing convoy seemed to have indeed stopped.

Yang Yi turned down the volume and loudly asked, "Why have they stopped?"

Zhang Yong yelled, "Slow down, see if they’ve really stopped. Why would they suddenly stop? Fuck! I won’t be at ease until we figure it out."
