When the enemy was in pursuit, one had to flee for their life; when the enemy ceased their chase, it was only logical to seize the opportunity to make a swift escape. However, Zhang Yong and Yang Yi both concurred that understanding why the enemy had stopped was of even greater importance.

Sometimes, the enemy’s cessation of pursuit was no cause for celebration, for one could not fathom the reasons behind it. Optimistically, one might assume the enemy’s vehicles had collectively run out of fuel or that they had all gone mad and dropped dead.

Of course, none of these possibilities existed and to contemplate the worst-case scenario was even more terrifying: perhaps a more formidable Mercenary Group was lying in wait ahead, or maybe the enemy considered the chase futile and instead opted for launching missiles from a helicopter.

Thinking along these negative lines led to the realization that numerous possibilities existed.

Yang Yi gradually brought the car to a stop, inching it out of the dust-shrouded area at a snail’s pace, while everyone in the vehicle peered intently around them.

Very soon, Zhang Yong exclaimed with great surprise, "The enemy has retreated, they’re turning back!"

Xiao Ran spoke wearily, "That’s right, the enemies have left."

The people inside the car looked at each other, bewildered; none could fathom why the enemy would abandon the chase, much less why they would withdraw altogether.

After a brief pause, Yang Yi couldn’t help but blurt out, "What’s going on! What is this?"

Zhang Yong, face full of curiosity, said, "Did they give up because they knew they couldn’t catch us? Unlikely. Could it be that there’s a greater danger awaiting us ahead?"

Yang Yi shook his head, "No, I think it’s more likely that the enemy received some sort of intelligence, information decisive enough for them to choose to give up chasing us. Otherwise, it doesn’t make sense."

Impatiently, Xiao Ran said, "What about the five million US Dollars? What kind of intelligence could compel them to give that up?"

Yang Yi shook his head, "How should I know; this is all speculation. The real question is, what do we do now? Do we keep driving forward or do we follow the recent enemies to see what’s going on?"

Xiao Ran said, "Of course we keep driving forward. Should we deliver ourselves straight into the enemy’s guns? Even if we went back, what would you see?"

As Yang Yi released the brake and let the car slowly move forward, he spoke with a puzzled expression, "I can’t figure it out, truly can’t figure it out. Brother Yong, could you ask again? Was the mission canceled?"

Zhang Yong paused and then said, "Mission canceled? That’s impossible. There’s no such thing as canceling a mission like that, unless the mission assigner confirms that the mission has been fully completed and declares it over. Could it be that someone actually completed the mission and passed the validation?"

With a burst of energy, Zhang Yong said, "I’ll make a call to check if the mission has been completed by someone."

Xiao Ran took out her mobile phone, but then she said, "There’s no signal."

Yang Yi pulled out a satellite phone, which definitely had a signal, but he hesitated, worrying about exposing his number, and was uncertain whether to let Zhang Yong use his satellite phone to call a known mercenary broker.

With urgency, Xiao Ran said, "Don’t worry, first enter 000 and then press the star key, and then make the call. The number that you call from will automatically be masked, showing a randomly generated fake number to the recipient. Didn’t you know?"

Inspired, Yang Yi said, "I had no idea, no one told me. Brother Yong, use this phone to make the call."

Zhang Yong took the satellite phone and dialed out. Soon after, he urgently said, "What has happened?"

Zhang Yong nodded and assured, "Yes, we’re in the clear. Unless those who wanted to kill Boer found someone else who could replace Tomler and issue the mission again, and then relaunched the mission, otherwise, we’re safe. No one will continue to chase after us."
