Chapter 270 - 269: Fighter Jet

Chapter 270: Chapter 269: Fighter Jet

The helicopter never seemed to intend to leave, but it also did not attack the ground.

Yang Yi and Zhang Yong had already converged, and Xiao Ran couldn’t help but fire two shots at the helicopter in the sky, but the result was undoubtedly useless.

Boer was strictly ordered to stay in the car, while the three of them, including Yang Yi, could only watch the helicopter overhead and were helpless.

"This is exactly what I feared most, and it has come true."

Zhang Yong couldn’t help but sigh mournfully, and Yang Yi said in a deep voice, "What now?"

"It won’t attack, but it won’t leave either. Just hanging us out to dry in the sky. Wherever we go, the helicopter follows. We can’t shoot it down or shake it off; it’s really fucking annoying."

Yang Yi also couldn’t help but sigh.

With a helicopter in the sky to relay Boer’s location to others, no one can attack Boer for now, but there will soon be people coming.

Zhang Yong said with a bitter smile, "Fifty million US dollars, that’s no small sum. It’s going to make so many people desperate to find us at any cost. No matter who’s on the helicopter, if they’re willing to expose my location for ten million dollars, there will be takers, so now we’re really in trouble."

Yang Yi said helplessly, "But we definitely can’t just wait here; we have to get moving."

Zhang Yong bluntly said, "Where to? Heading towards Los Angeles means running into a blockade, going deeper into the desert means waiting for pursuers. Pick one."

They couldn’t keep heading into the desert; without gas stations, their vehicles wouldn’t last, and then they would be truly waiting to die.

Yang Yi scratched his head in agitation and said, "Why is this so troublesome!"

Zhang Yong sighed and said, "That’s why I told you this is what I was most afraid of. Just like this, being followed from the sky, we are utterly helpless."

Xiao Ran suddenly said, "The helicopter can’t possibly have fuel forever. When the helicopter runs out of fuel, we’ll naturally be fine."

Zhang Yong said with a bitter smile, "That’s easy for you to say, but when will the helicopter run out of fuel? Do you believe that as long as the helicopter sends out the message, more helicopters will soon be coming?"

Truly without a solution, Xiao Ran hesitated for a moment before speaking softly, "Otherwise, let’s just kill Boer, then we go for the fifty million ourselves!"

Zhang Yong shook his head and said in a resigned tone, "It’s useless. Whether Boer is alive or dead, it’s cash on delivery. Even if we kill Boer, what then? The new arrivals just need to snatch Boer’s body and claim the money."

Yang Yi pondered for a moment, then said, "There are three cars here. How about we go our separate ways? Each of us takes a car; how will the helicopter follow then?"

Before Zhang Yong could speak, Yang Yi had already given up on his own idea. He sighed and said, "We can’t split up. It’s even more dangerous if we do. Forget it, we can’t just stay here, so let’s get in the car and move. We’ll deal with problems as we encounter them."

Splitting up might seem effective initially, but as soon as the helicopter focused on one, that one would be as good as dead. Regardless of whether the helicopter was tracking Boer, the enemy that would quickly follow wouldn’t spare any of them just because they didn’t have Boer. Together, there might be a chance to break through, but separated, they would truly stand no chance.

A no-strategy strategy, or even resigned to fate, but moving haphazardly was still better than just staying put and waiting to be overwhelmed.

The three of them got back into the car; this time Yang Yi drove. Zhang Yong, holding a rifle seized from an enemy, sat in the passenger seat, while Xiao Ran also switched her gun to an automatic rifle. Inside the car, the shorter M4 was definitely more convenient. Even Boer was holding a rifle, and although his shooting skills might not be as good as Yang Yi’s, every bit of strength was precious at this time.

Yang Yi drove the car out of the desert and back onto the highway, then sped along the road relentlessly while the helicopter kept following from above, trailing far behind the vehicle.

Dawn had already broken, and the sun was about to rise.

The four people in the car couldn’t just sit idly, of course; they had to come up with a solution. Racking his brains with no avail, Yang Yi suddenly said, "Boer, think of something. You know so many people, come up with a way to get us out of this crisis."

Boer replied with utter helplessness, "Of course I’m thinking, but I have no solution. Who can I trust now?"

Zhang Yong let out a sigh and said, "What do we do?"

Yang Yi suddenly suggested, "Why don’t we call the police?"

Zhang Yong was stunned for a moment and said, "Call the police? I can’t believe you thought of that. What good will that do?"

Yang Yi said urgently, "Let the police handle the helicopter above us. How do you think that helicopter got here? I don’t believe the mercenaries have their own helicopter; they must have stolen it, or they’re holding the pilot hostage. Why don’t we just report a terrorist hijacking a helicopter?"

Zhang Yong paused for a second and then said, "That’s true. Damn it! Who cares how it got here; let’s call the police and say it’s terrorists!"

Yang Yi hurriedly said, "Call the police. Maybe the Air National Guard’s planes will be able to force the helicopter to land."

Xiao Ran spoke softly, "Should we call the police ourselves?"

Yang Yi thought for a moment and replied, "No, we can’t call ourselves. Let someone else do it for us. I’ll handle it."

He took out his satellite phone and dialed Mike. As soon as Mike answered, Yang Yi hurriedly said, "We’re being tailed by a helicopter. Call the police for us quickly and have them find a way to neutralize the threat posed by the helicopter. You know what to say."

Mike said anxiously, "Give me your location and anything you can about the helicopter, at least the color and markings."

Xiao Ran glanced at her phone’s GPS, quickly relayed their position, then peered out of the car window and promptly said, "A helicopter with blue and white markings."

On the phone, Mike said, "Understood. I’ll call Los Angeles PD now. The LAPD will report the situation to the Air National Guard, and if all goes well, National Guard fighter jets will arrive within twenty minutes to force the helicopter to land. Stay in touch."

After Mike hung up, Zhang Yong scratched his head and mused, "Calling the police... quite interesting. After all these years in the game, calling the cops to save our lives for the first time feels... pretty good."

Since 9/11, the United States has very strict controls over aircrafts. If indeed a report were made, the Air National Guard would really dispatch fighter jets.

The car continued to drive forward, and just twenty-four minutes later, the roar of planes could be heard from inside the car with its windows down.

Zhang Yong suddenly shouted, "Look, F16s!"

Two F16 fighter jets streaked across the sky, passing over Yang Yi and their heads as well as above the helicopter. Directly attacking and shooting down the helicopter was, of course, not an option, but after the fighter jets flew over and circled back around the helicopter, crossing in front of it while displaying their underbellies and the missiles attached to the aircraft, they sent a clear warning to the helicopter pilot that their warning was serious.

Communication between aircraft is naturally conducted via radio. Whether it was a warning to the helicopter to land immediately or to follow a course to a designated airport set by the fighter jets was not for Yang Yi and the others to know. Of course, they didn’t need to know.
