Chapter 248: Chapter 247: Making You Talk Too Much
When facing death, the vast majority of people are stripped of the protective shell made up of identity and wealth, revealing their most genuine and also most vulnerable side.
In the face of death, everyone is equal, regardless of how noble Boer’s status is or how much wealth he has, when none of it is useful, Boer’s behavior won’t be any better than anyone else’s.
When he heard "watch out for the grenade," Boer suddenly threw himself to the ground.
Yang Yi was startled, then he shouted angrily, "What the hell are you doing down there? Fuck! Raise your gun and aim at the door, if someone gets in we’re dead, get up!"
Boer lifted his head, then he bellowed with a face that was a mix of panic and rage, "You were the one who said ’watch out for the grenade’!"
"Idiot! I told you to be careful not to let anyone throw a grenade in here. This room is so small, if a grenade comes in we’re all finished. You’ve got a rifle, you have to stop those who want to kill you from throwing grenades in here!"
Boer got up, then with his right hand holding the gun and his left hand waving angrily he said, "Do you even understand what you’re saying? If you want my help with the gun, then you shouldn’t have said ’watch out for the grenade,’ that means to hit the deck, fuck!"
Yang Yi pointed at Boer and yelled, "Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Hold your gun properly and stop spouting this nonsense at me!"
Boer shouted back, "You have to protect me, guard this door, you..."
Boer suddenly fell silent, and Yang Yi had a sudden realization, saying, "You’ve made me so angry that I forgot the most important thing. Do I have a responsibility to protect you? The wisest thing for me to do right now is to get as far away from you as possible, fuck, why am I wasting my time here with you!"
Boer’s face was full of regret, then he slapped himself hard on the mouth, but in the end, his hand landed gently on his own mouth.
His hand lightly slapped himself, but Boer still cried out in pain and then spat out a mouthful of blood-stained saliva.
Just now, Yang Yi was kicking himself for rashly pushing Boer. If he hadn’t impulsively pushed him, he would have left by now and wouldn’t be in this dangerous situation.
And if Boer had blurted out that Yang Yi should protect him, Yang Yi might not have suddenly remembered that he could just walk away.
So seeing Boer realize he had said the wrong thing, Yang Yi gloated, "That’s what your big mouth gets you!"
Yang Yi decided to try and check out the situation, but as soon as he leaned a little closer to the door, a burst of gunfire hit the glass door, soon shattering it completely.
Yang Yi quickly gave up on the idea of escaping. Right now, those outside didn’t care whether he had the responsibility to protect Boer or not.
Yang Yi gripped his gun with both hands, then leaned back and said in a deep voice, "Tell me, how much will you pay me?"
Boer said without hesitation, "As long as I don’t die, I’ll give you thirty million US dollars!"
"Too little, at least a hundred million!"
"Fifty million!"
Yang Yi said impatiently, "Do you think your life is more precious, or is a hundred million US dollars more valuable? Is this really the time to haggle?"
Boer said disdainfully, "Do you have any other choice but to protect me? Why don’t you try going outside and see if they shoot you dead! Now that I think about it, paying you ten million US dollars would be enough."
Although he knew it was dangerous, Yang Yi couldn’t help but turn his head back, saying in astonishment, "You’re actually in the mood to haggle at a time like this?"
Boer, frustrated and infuriated, said, "If I die, you’ll have to die too. If those people get in, neither of us will survive, so why should I have to give you fifty million? So why can’t I haggle!"
People panic when their lives are on the line. Yang Yi figured since he couldn’t get out anyway, he might as well take the opportunity to drive a hard bargain. Asking for a hundred million US Dollars didn’t seem too outrageous, but who could have known that Boer, even at this moment, kept a businessman’s instinct? After realizing Yang Yi was actually in the same boat as him, he had the audacity to push for a lower price.
Yang Yi extended his left hand and angrily slapped his own mouth, saying, "That’s what you get for having a big mouth..."
With a compelling voice, Boer said, "Pal, our only chance of survival now is to fully cooperate. If we can live through this, ten million US Dollars is yours for the taking."
Yang Yi said irritably, "Fifty million, and that’s final."
Boer replied, "No, ten million..."
Yang Yi shouted angrily, "Keep haggling with me and see if I don’t fucking surrender with my hands up! You believe me?"
Boer hesitated slightly upon seeing Yang Yi’s exasperated state, and finally relented, "All right, fifty million US Dollars! But it must be paid in three installments, and you must—"
"Shut up!"
Yang Yi saw someone and immediately opened fire because the person was quickly approaching from the side with a gun in hand.
When the target moved swiftly, Yang Yi’s shooting was still as lousy as ever, although he was actually quite decent when shooting at stationary targets.
Pop, pop, pop, Yang Yi fired seven shots in one breath, and finally hit the target’s leg.
A white man wearing combat boots, camouflage pants, a shirt, and with a Punisher mask over his face, fell to the ground.
As the white man fell, he immediately aimed his rifle at Yang Yi and shot while desperately shifting backward. Before he could align his barrel in the right direction, Boer, who was behind Yang Yi, fired several shots, hitting the white man.
Even so, the fallen white man wasn’t dead, because he was wearing a bulletproof vest. Therefore, despite being hit by at least two bullets, he was still struggling to crawl backward.
The white man’s companions rushed forward. Yang Yi immediately retreated, and seeing Yang Yi step back, Boer retreated even faster.
It was then that Yang Yi shouted again, "Grenade!"
He switched from backing away to diving forward. As Yang Yi lay on the ground, a thunderous explosion rang out.
In that instant, Yang Yi’s ears buzzed, and he couldn’t hear anything, but he still turned around as quickly as he could, aiming his gun at the doorway.
The dust had not yet settled, and someone with a rifle burst through the main entrance. Yang Yi fired repeatedly, and his enemy was less than three meters away from him.
This time Lady Luck smiled on him; Yang Yi hit the intruder right on the bridge of the nose with a single shot. The next two bullets, however, were a pure waste, fired into what was already a corpse.
Yang Yi stood up, pistol in hand, staring anxiously at the doorway, fearing someone else might suddenly burst in.
And sure enough, there were more coming, and this time not just one. Yang Yi saw three people crossing the street through the gap.
If there were three in sight, and that was with his very limited view, what about the places he couldn’t see?
Even though the enemy hadn’t yet entered, as he watched them quickly closing in, Yang Yizhen truly felt desperate.
