Chapter 188: Chapter 187 Ben’s Destined Gun

Yang Yi was not familiar with guns; in fact, he couldn’t recognize most of the firearms in Paul’s arsenal.

So when Brian suggested that Yang Yi pick a gun, Yang Yi was very self-aware. After only a brief hesitation, he somewhat embarrassingly said, "Otherwise, let’s skip the pistol; just give me a suitable submachine gun."

Paul and Brian looked at Yang Yi with some surprise, then Paul frowned and said, "A submachine gun?"

"Yes, I can’t shoot accurately with a pistol, so I’ll use a submachine gun instead. A spray of bullets will surely hit somebody, right?"

That was what Yang Yi thought, so he said somewhat sheepishly, "Before I improve my own shooting skills, I’d better stick with a submachine gun."

Paul shook his head helplessly, while Brian, knowing Yang Yi’s level, smiled and said, "No, if you can’t use firearms correctly, then it’s better not to use them at all. It’s okay if you’re not good with guns and don’t use them, but you mustn’t cause us trouble. Our combat mode is very precise and has a very low margin for error, so we can’t have an uncontrollable factor like you affecting the battle."

Yang Yi asked in confusion, "Why do you say that?"

Brian said very seriously, "If you don’t have a gun, then we know you won’t provide any fire support. When we formulate tactics, when we encounter unexpected crises, we’ll exclude the firepower you could provide. But with a submachine gun, if you’re shooting at the enemy, should we expect that you can eliminate the enemy or delay their attack, or should we think that your shooting is of no use at all?"

Paul smiled and said, "If you can’t play a key role, then not adding to our confusion and not disrupting our judgment is the best help you can provide."

Brian added, "So giving you a pistol is actually just to boost your courage, and another important function is that you can use it to commit suicide."

Yang Yi rolled his eyes and said helplessly, "Alright, I got it. Give me a pistol then. I’ll see what I like, uh, I’ll use a 1911 as well."

Immediately, Paul said, "No, it’s not about what you like to use, but what you’re suited to use. First, let me see which model of pistol suits you."

"He’s going to be a spy, not a combatant," Brian noted.

"Ah, a spy," Paul said. "Then, a pistol that spies love would be a very good choice for you: the Walther PPK, chambering .32LR cartridges, with a 7-round magazine capacity, simple, reliable, compact, and lightweight—James Bond’s choice, although that man is purely fictional, haha."

Yang Yi took a small pistol, hefted it, and then held it up.

At this, Paul frowned and said, "It looks awkward; maybe this pistol isn’t for you. Try another one, and aim at this point."

As God was his witness, Yang Yi had merely raised the gun; he himself didn’t even know how it felt to handle, yet Paul had already drawn a conclusion for him.

Paul then picked up another pistol and handed it to Yang Yi, saying gravely, "The Soviet spies’ favorite, the PB pistol, has excellent silencing effects. Take it."

Yang Yi, still somewhat bewildered, put down the PPK and picked up a pistol that looked both unrefined and ugly. Waiting for Yang Yi to lift the PB silenced pistol, Paul still immediately said, "Put it down; it’s not suitable for you."

Yang Yi set down the pistol and finally couldn’t help but ask, "How can you tell?"

Brian waved his hand and said, "Don’t question his judgment; if he says it’s not right for you, then it definitely isn’t."

After pondering for a while, Paul suddenly said, "Small self-defense pistols aren’t for you. Try combat pistols; pick up each one in this row and try them."

Yang Yi picked up an M92, held it up with one hand, and aimed it in front of him, then Paul shook his head and said, "Next one."

Yang Yi picked up another handgun in sequence and, raising it again, asked curiously, "What kind of gun is this?"

"CZ75, not suitable for you, put it down and choose another one."

Yang Yi put down the CZ75 and picked up a Glock 17 he recognized, repeated the actions he had gone through several times, and Paul shook his head, "Change."

Finally, Yang Yi picked up a 1911, but as soon as he had lifted the gun, Paul frowned, "The grip of this gun is too thin for you, change."

"Walther P99, doesn’t fit you, change."

"Change."

"Change."

"Change."

Yang Yi switched through more than a dozen handguns, but eventually Paul didn’t even bother to say the model anymore, simply shouting "change" as soon as he picked one up.

Yang Yi’s hands were long and slender, his fingers also long and thin; to him, the thickness of a handgun’s grip didn’t seem to make much of a difference, so he never understood the basis for Paul’s decisions on his behalf.

At last, when Yang Yi picked up a SIG P226, Paul fell silent for a moment, then made a gesture, "Load the magazine."

Yang Yi loaded the magazine and then, after Paul pondered for a moment, he instructed again, "Attach the suppressor."

"Raise the gun, aim, dry fire."

Yang Yi screwed on the suppressor and, after ejecting the bullet, fired a shot with an empty chamber.

Paul, however, furrowed his brow deeply and then shook his head, "Missing something, put it down, switch to this one."

Yang Yi picked up a SIG P229, and as soon as he had lifted the gun, Paul immediately nodded, "Looks good, aim, fire, change the magazine, attach the suppressor, fire again, change the magazine, remove the suppressor."

After Yang Yi had followed a series of Paul’s commands, Paul waved his hand with great confidence, "From now on, the SIG P229 will be your primary handgun. It’s the most suitable for you."

Yang Yi looked towards Brian, and Brian shrugged, "You’d better trust what he says. His judgment is more accurate than your own feelings. Fire all the guns a few times, and you’ll find the one that suits you best is definitely the P229."

Paul said in a deep voice, "The P229 is a compact version of the P226, but you aim more accurately with the P229 than with other handguns, almost without adjustment. However, I don’t know which caliber suits you, so what you need to do next is shoot in all the calibers available for the P229 many times to find the one that suits you best."

Yang Yi nodded, "So, my handgun from now on is the SIG P229?"

Brian nodded, "Trusting Paul is always right. You can use any handgun when carrying out missions, but when your life is on the line, you’d best use the SIG P229, as it’s the handgun that fits your hand the best, just like that."

Yang Yi carefully examined the gun in his hand before saying to Paul, "Can I get some other things? I feel like hand grenades might be more suitable to use?"

Without even asking for Brian’s opinion, Paul flatly said, "Don’t even think about it until you’ve had complete training!"
