Chapter 187: Chapter 186: Arsenal
With Gao Yang’s limited knowledge of weapons, he knew every gun that was here, and the ones he didn’t know were also all here.
Of course, it wasn’t just guns; there were various types of grenades, bullets, and things that Yang Yi didn’t know the use for.
Brian spread his arms out, looking at the room full of treasures, and exclaimed sincerely, "It’s beautiful, this reminds me of my own armory."
A room of about ten square meters, where on all walls, except for a small door, there were racks, all holding long guns.
Rifles, submachine guns, and even machine guns. Most unbelievable were the rocket launchers.
In the middle, there were two cargo containers with baskets on top, filled with boxes of bullets, and a row of cabinets held handguns, next to which were magazines.
On another side of the same cabinet were short knives, long knives, axes, greatswords, clubs, shields, and bulletproof vests.
Another cabinet held bullets, hand grenades, rifle grenades, and land mines.
On another side of the same cabinet were many small items and some electronic equipment.
Actually, bullets were not only on those containers; wherever bullets could be placed, there were boxes of them.
Yang Yi, whose eyes were fixed, watched as Paul held up something that looked like a headlamp with the enthusiasm of showing off a treasure.
"Boss, come look at this, a low-light night vision device, isn’t it compact? It’s much more powerful than what we used to use!"
Ben took it over and then said in surprise, "So small? Is it any good?"
"It’s excellent. Even if it’s suddenly exposed to bright light it won’t burn out the photosensitive components. That’s not all; check this out, thermal imaging!"
Brian picked up a thermal imager, expressing his amazement, "So small and light. How long does the battery last? How far can it detect?"
Paul laughed, "It can detect farther than the vehicle-mounted thermal imagers we used to use! And the battery is enough for continuous use for six hours."
Brian let out a gentle sigh and caressed the thermal imager in his hand, saying, "Great stuff, but..."
Setting down the thermal imager, he walked over to the handgun cabinet, only glancing once before he reached into the cabinet like he’d found a treasure and picked up an M1911A1 handgun.
He held the handgun, flipping it back and forth, inspecting it, and then Brian whispered, "This is what I really want."
Taking out the magazine, he checked that it was empty, then Brian immediately pulled the slide and swiftly turned around to point the gun at the wall, pulling the trigger, firing.
After a sharp click, Brian took a deep breath and said, "Perfect!"
Without hesitation, he pulled out the shiny 1911 from his waist, and like discarding an old shoe, he threw the handgun into a box, then raised the handgun in his hand again and said solemnly, "I’m borrowing this."
Paul waved his hand nonchalantly, "It’s yours now. I personally modified it; of course, it’s good. You only want one handgun?"
"Of course not!"
Brian picked up a loaded magazine and inserted it into the pistol before sliding the pistol into his waistband. He then looked at the rifles on the wall and said, "Recommend one for me."
Paul took down a black-painted rifle that was very short and also fitted with a silencer.
"I recommend the MK.18 MOD 0 CQBR, in service since 2000, light and compact. You can keep using your favorite MP5 as a submachine gun, of course, there are now more options, like the MP7. As for sniper rifles, though..."
Brian immediately said, "I’m not switching sniper rifles, the Remington M700, I don’t plan on changing my sniper weapon."
"Alright, there are various versions of the M700. The Army version is already the M24A2, and the Marine Corps version is up to the M40A5, or even the law enforcement version. Of course, I’m wasting my breath, you obviously still prefer the classic models."
Paul smiled and took down a sniper rifle, and said, "Our Pandora version, my personal one, but it can be yours now!"
Brian took the rifle, closed his eyes, caressed the gun, and let out a long sigh.
After holding the sniper rifle for a while, Brian opened his eyes and then said to Yang Yi, "Don’t be polite, pick one you like. This armory is about to be decommissioned, so take any gun you like."
Yang Yi looked at the selection of over fifty pistols, swallowed hard, and then pointed to the knife cabinet and said, "I’d rather pick a knife first."
Paul immediately said, "A knife? I’m not an expert on knives, but there’s plenty of choice here. What do you like?"
Yang Yi quickly said, "I’ve already bought knives but haven’t been very satisfied with any. First off, I don’t want a handguard."
Paul laughed and said, "Good, knives with handguards are for kids. Seems you’re quite skillful with blades. What about length?"
Knives generally come with handguards, which as the name suggests, are to protect hands from the blade. However, experts favor speed in drawing and using a knife, and handguards can get in the way. For an expert, not having a handguard is obviously not an issue.
Paul took down a double-edged dagger, drew it from its sheath, and swung it in his hand, suggesting, "How about this one? Thirty centimeters, the optimal length for a tactical knife. One strike, fatal!"
"Err, I don’t like double-edged blades. I prefer single-edged ones."
Yang Yi reached for a knife, unsheathed it, and held it against his arm, explaining, "I often make this kind of movement, so double-edged daggers aren’t really suitable for me. A single-edged knife would be better."
Paul spread his hands and said, "You’d better choose for yourself."
Yang Yi didn’t need a military spike as the multi-functionality wasn’t what he sought, nor did he want a knife that was too large or too heavy. Even though thirty centimeters is the optimal length for a tactical knife, for an assassin, it’s too long, as stealth in carrying a knife is more important than the added length.
After looking around for a while and not finding a knife he liked, Yang Yi asked in a deep voice, "Got anything shorter, around twenty centimeters, very sharp and slim?"
"Uh, um, I like daggers, so most of the smaller ones are double-edged, but this one should meet your requirements."
Paul picked up a switchblade, also known as a spring knife traditionally.
After pressing a button and popping out the blade, Paul smiled and said, "The ’Beetle Switchblade,’ a micro-technological wonder, should fulfill your needs. I don’t have anything more suitable, but once you find Charles, he can meet all your requirements for a knife, he’s the real expert."
With no better option available under the circumstances, Yang Yi accepted the switchblade, expressing his gratitude with a simple "Thank you."
At that moment, Brian said sternly, "Now go pick a gun. Paul, help him out. This kid isn’t exactly proficient with firearms. Help him pick a suitable handgun."
