Chapter 165: Chapter 164: What’s the Point of Telling You
Yang Yi was waiting in the control room.
Outside, prison guards were surely surrounding the place, but the control room’s door was hard to breach from the outside, and he had many hostages in his hands, so Yang Yi wasn’t too worried about anything.
The prison warden couldn’t stand it anymore, he could see everything happening through the monitors. When he saw inmates happily rushing out of the prison one by one, he finally couldn’t take it anymore.
"You released almost all the inmates, didn’t you think of the possible consequences when you let them go? Fuck! They are merciless killers, you just let them go, there will be how many innocent civilians die because of you!"
Yang Yi pondered for a moment, and then he nodded to the prison warden, "You make sense."
Yang Yi spread his hands and then he said in a deep voice, "What you said makes a lot of sense, if I just let those inmates run around everywhere, it’s very likely that innocent people will be harmed. They are all beasts who have been caged for a long time, so I have to prevent this from happening."
The prison warden actually froze, he looked at Yang Yi, "You understand this, but why did you still do it?"
Yang Yi smiled, "Because I need a cover, a lot of people to cover for me so that I might be able to escape. Anyway, these are all scum, even if they are killed during the escape, I won’t feel sorry, but I need to prevent those inmates from escaping into the city."
The warden couldn’t help saying, "How will you prevent them? There’s no way to stop them!"
Yang Yi shook his fingers a few times, and then he smiled, "No, there is a way to stop them. Now, let me tell you, first of all, our prison is built in the forest, around here is a no-man’s land, and also a forbidden area, ordinary people are prohibited from approaching. The only road leads to New Moon City, about forty kilometers away, think about it, how long would it take for those inmates to walk out forty kilometers on foot?"
The warden was stunned for a moment, "A few hours?"
Yang Yi shrugged his shoulders, then he laughed, "Yes, a few hours. Speaking of which, I want to ask what are your emergency measures for a mass inmate escape?"
"There are no such emergency measures, because it’s impossible..."
Yang Yi laughed, "It seems you’ve realized it, this has already happened. Well, since you don’t have an emergency plan for a mass inmate escape, luckily I’ve thought of one for you. There’s an Army National Guard base next to New Moon City, with thousands of people stationed there. If what happened here is reported to the California government, then the National Guard will be deployed. They only need to blockade the road from Pelican Bay Prison to New Moon City to intercept the majority of the inmates."
The warden was still staring blankly at Yang Yi, who continued with a shrug, "What are you staring at me for? It’s good enough that you caught most of the escaped prisoners. As for those who fled to the forest, you’ll have to look for them slowly. As for those who escaped to the sea, erm, I doubt any prisoner would be that foolish. If they head towards the sea, then that’ll save you the trouble."
Just then, Yang Yi suddenly said to the surveillance camera, "Oh, what a wrong choice..."
Yang Yi saw Hank, Chris, Gweil, and Hamer Phil from the surveillance footage.
It’s actually quite difficult to pick out a few specific individuals from a crowd of prisoners, but Yang Yi has been observing Hank and his group from the start, so he knew exactly where these people were.
Hank and his gang were heading towards the administration building where the control room was located, while Hamer Phil slowed down his pace and then suddenly turned around and ran back towards the main body of prisoners.
Yang Yi grabbed the microphone, and then he directly said over the broadcast, "Go to the infirmary and pick up Rodriguez, then just get out of here. If anyone tries to stop you, I’ll see it. If I see it, I’ll shoot the hostage, so don’t worry about anything."
Directing his underlings to pick up Rodriguez, Yang Yi then said to the warden, "Where were we?"
The warden, looking utterly lost, responded, "You were saying where the prisoners would go."
Yang Yi nodded and said, "Right, Crescent City’s police forces aren’t enough to stop thousands of prisoners from escaping, so the Army National Guard must be deployed. However, the deployment of the Army National Guard has to be authorized by the state government. This is an emergency situation, and, um, given California’s sluggishness and inefficiency, it will be pretty good if they make a decision within two hours. The Army National Guard definitely won’t have enough time to blockade the prison perimeter, nor catch every one of those who fled into the forest. In fact, it will be quite an achievement if they manage to prevent the prisoners from entering Crescent City."
The warden looked at Yang Yi, puzzled, and Yang Yi said with a smile, "Don’t understand why I’m saying all this? Simple. Because even if I tell you that I’m going to lead people into the forest, you won’t have enough manpower to catch me. You will, of course, ensure the citizens of Crescent City aren’t harmed by the prisoners. And those smart enough to escape into the forest will be in the minority, because not many are as familiar with Crescent City’s geographical environment as I am. Americans are ignorant, oh, and even fewer know about the presence of the Army National Guard nearby."
Yang Yi pointed out the window at the forest and said with a smile, "Tell you I’m running in that direction, what can you do? Send precious manpower into the forest to look for me? Twelve hours. By the time you are frazzled and have enough manpower to slowly search for inmates who fled into the forest, at least twelve hours would have passed, and by then, I will already be enjoying myself somewhere you won’t know."
Standing up, Yang Yi stretched lazily, which aggravated the wound on his abdomen, making him grimace as he quickly bent back over, but he still said with an air of triumph, "Send just a few people after me and they’re walking into death. Send a large force? I welcome it. Go ahead and search in the hundreds of square miles of forest. Send planes? That’s a good idea, thermal imaging can find people hiding under trees, but you’ll have to distinguish which of the hundreds of inmates is me. Also, let me ask, how many police helicopters with thermal imaging does Crescent City have? What about California? So, since I know you’re going to have so much trouble finding me, what does it matter if I tell you where I’ll be?
The warden lowered his head, and Yang Yi said indifferently, "I know you’re cursing me, no problem, I ruined your future, so it’s only right that you swear at me a few times. Besides, why am I talking so much nonsense to you? Because I’m delaying time while giving you some advice, lest you do something out of anger that leads to an unmanageable situation forcing the men outside to come charging in."
Yang Yi slid two handguns into his waistband, and then he said to the warden with a smile, "Now that the people I’ve been waiting for have arrived, my talk is finished."
