Chapter 162: Chapter 161 There’s a Problem
Yang Yi had passed the day calmly in his bed, and then another.
Rodriguez’s injury was under control. It looked terrible, but as long as it was treated in time, it wasn’t a big deal.
Yang Yi’s injury wasn’t a big deal either. Although painful, it didn’t prevent him from moving.
He had no idea if Raymond had any updates. Perhaps there were, but the warden refused to help pass the message. Or maybe there were no new messages at all.
It was the third day.
Yang Yi had been watching the clock on the wall.
Today was Brian’s day to get some air, and it also happened to be the day Clint was off duty.
At eight in the morning, the doctor arrived on time to check Yang Yi’s wounds. Then he said to the accompanying guard with an impatient look, "He’s fine. There’s no need for him to stay here any longer. Send him back to his cell."
The guard nodded and immediately stepped forward to unlock Yang Yi’s handcuffs. Just then, Yang Yi suddenly said, "Wait a second."
The guard stopped his actions, looking puzzled at Yang Yi. Yang Yi took a breath, slowly sat up, and then apologized to the guard, "Have you noticed a problem?"
The guard frowned and asked, "What problem?"
Yang Yi pulled his right hand out of the handcuff, shook both hands at the guard, and smiled, "The cuffs are too loose, because I’ve already unlocked them."
The guard was shocked and stumbled backward while reaching for his gun, but Yang Yi swiftly swung his hand, striking the guard’s neck with the side of his hand.
Yang Yi stood up from the hospital bed, and while supporting the collapsing guard, he smiled at the doctor who was standing there shocked, "Don’t move, don’t shout, or I’ll kill you."
The doctor trembled, and his clipboard slid from his hands onto the floor.
Yang Yi casually took the gun out of the guard’s holster and grabbed the guard’s keys. Then he smiled at the doctor, "I was planning to take someone hostage with a scalpel, but now I have a better option. Look, I have a gun."
Whistling softly, Yang Yi then smiled at the doctor, "Are you curious why the handcuffs couldn’t hold me? It’s simple, because I had already unlocked them. Didn’t you notice they were too loose when you checked on me? Do you want to know how I did it? It’s easy, with just a cotton swab."
The doctor was still trembling, unable to utter a word. Yang Yi sighed, walked over to the doctor, patted his face, and said sternly, "Hey, hey, keep calm. I’ve been talking to you so much just to show I don’t want to kill you. Otherwise, I wouldn’t waste my breath trying to calm you down, understand? First, calm down, then lead me out as if nothing has happened. Oh shoot..."
Yang Yi realized his plan was ruined because the doctor’s legs were shaking like sieves. It wasn’t just that he couldn’t pretend everything was normal and lead Yang Yi out—he could barely stand.
"Forget it, I’ll do it myself."
Yang Yi hit the doctor’s neck with the hand that was holding the gun. After the doctor also collapsed to the floor with a thud, Yang Yi twisted his neck and muttered, "It’s better for you to pass out. You should thank me."
Checking the clock on the wall, it was now ten past eight. The prisoners should have started their exercise by now, and Clint should have already left the special ward, but Brian had not yet entered the chimney.
At least ten minutes until Brian could leave his cell, and then another five for him to enter the chimney. So Yang Yi couldn’t rush; he had to wait for the right moment to make his move.
Yang Yi now felt no urgency or nervousness, as if he were engaged in a trivial matter.
"If you want to kill me, I’ll give you a headline."
Yang Yi methodically began to strip the doctor’s clothes, but after pondering, he glanced at the fainted guard.
"White coat or police uniform? Which is better?"
Yang Yi wavered and ultimately decided to continue stripping the doctor, because the doctor’s build was similar to his, whereas the guard was a bit too plump, and a police uniform wouldn’t fit him well.
Of course, there was another problem, that being the guards were likely very familiar with each other, but probably not so much with a stranger who is a doctor, right?
Yang Yi shed his prison garb and slipped into the doctor’s clothes, a suit with a white coat over it. After changing, he checked the time.
It was exactly 8:20, perfect.
Picking up the file folder that the doctor had dropped, Yang Yi pulled open the door and rushed out.
Yang Yi strode along, looking at the files as if he had an urgent matter to attend to.
In a prison housing thousands, it was not unusual for inmates to have headaches or fevers, and so the medical facility was far from empty, which of course meant that guards were present.
Yang Yi briskly walked past two guards.
This was the administrative building, where the warden’s office and the prison hospital were located, as well as various other departments that managed the core operations of the entire prison.
The places with the most guards were naturally the cell blocks, but there were definitely guards in the administrative building too, at least some twenty of them. Yet, not a single guard in the prison hospital gave a second glance to Yang Yi, who was hurrying along.
Leaving the hospital, or rather the clinic, Yang Yi reached the end of the corridor and went upstairs, passing two chatting guards once again.
The administrative building only had three floors, and Yang Yi had been there a few times, so he was not unfamiliar with the place. He reached the second floor, looked up, and then headed straight for a room.
Yang Yi was bound for the control room. The name itself gave away its function, right? As for how Yang Yi knew where the control room was, the reason was simple: there was a sign posted right outside the door.
Reaching the door of the control room, Yang Yi pushed it, finding it locked from inside—such a critical area couldn’t just be accessed by anyone.
The lock required both a password and a fingerprint, and seeing this, Yang Yi knitted his brows; then, he started pounding on the door with his fist.
"Coffee, open up!"
Within a few seconds, he heard someone from inside say, "How come you’re so quick today..."
The door opened, and a Black guard appeared who then saw Yang Yi and the dark muzzle of a gun.
The guard’s eyes widened, as if still trying to ascertain whether he was indeed looking at a gun barrel. In that moment, Yang Yi swung his hand, darted into the control room, and swiftly shut the door behind him.
