Chapter 152: Chapter 151: Setting Someone Up
Dragging his scar-covered body, Yang Yi was thrown into the cell by two prison guards.
The cell was indeed a mess, as everything Yang Yi had saved up had vanished, and his bedding was thrown on the floor. As for his knife, it had, of course, been found and taken away by the guards.
"Brother Yong, oh Brother Yong, you really did screw me over..."
He muttered to himself as he got up from the floor. He’d been beaten badly, but not to the point where he couldn’t walk; his hobbling was all an act.
Sitting on the plank bed and waiting for the guards outside to leave, Yang Yi grimaced as he moved his body, then lay down on the edge of the bed.
The bed was fixed to the wall, but there was a small gap. Yang Yi found a thin thread and began to pull it out.
Yang Yi had a cell phone, but it too had been found and taken by the guards. However, one could never be too careless in prison, so Yang Yi usually kept his phone and SIM card separate. The SIM card was tucked into the gap between the bed and the wall.
When Yang Yi pulled out the SIM card, he noticed the note attached to it.
"So it was hidden here after all."
It was good that the SIM card hadn’t been found. Zhang Yong had placed the note where Yang Yi hid his SIM card, obviously knowing that Yang Yi’s cell was likely to be searched.
The note was only as wide as a finger. Yang Yi unfolded it.
"I’m gone, as you’ve seen. I took care of the matter, and I’ve always said that I would sort out my own problems.
You must be curious about how I did it. Now I can tell you it was simple. I spent all my savings and bribed the right people.
You ask if I can help you, and my answer is to wait until you’re out of prison. If you can’t even escape this place, then you’d better find a place to hide and live out the rest of your life in peace. Don’t drag others down with you."
After reading the note left by Zhang Yong, Yang Yi sighed, feeling rather helpless as he said, "He did it on purpose after all..."
While cursing Zhang Yong, Yang Yi noticed that there was writing on the back of the note. He flipped it over.
"PS: I thought about it and decided that I’d rather keep my savings for myself, so I changed my mind. The warden won’t get the final payment, and he will definitely be angry. Good luck.
I’ve made your escape more difficult, but I won’t apologize. You guessed it; it was intentional.
You’re smart. If you do manage to escape, you’ll know where to find me. Good luck once more."
Having finished reading Zhang Yong’s note, Yang Yi barely managed not to spit out a mouthful of blood. Zhang Yong really was no good!
But Zhang Yong wasn’t wrong about one thing. If Yang Yi couldn’t manage to escape, then he really shouldn’t drag others into this mess. Although for the average person, escaping from prison is as difficult as reaching the heavens, for a spy determined to fight the Grey-cloaked People, not being able to escape would mean he might as well forget everything and just serve his five-year sentence before living out his life as an ordinary man.
With a sigh, Yang Yi threw the note into the toilet, flushed it away, then put the bedding back on his bed. When he lay down, he couldn’t help but take several deep breaths of cold air.
It hurt.
"No wonder the warden looked so disgruntled, like someone owed him money. Turns out he really was owed. Brother Yong, Brother Yong, you might as well kill me, damn it!"
Yang Yi muttered a curse under his breath, knowing that the days ahead would be tough.
Once he was able to strut around the prison because not only could Yang Yi fight, but he could also get away with it without punishment. Now, things were different. The prisoners were well-informed, and all it would take was for the warden to order a beating and throw him back in his cell for everyone to know he had lost his protection.
Without protection, he didn’t even need to think about what would happen next. Yang Yi was bracing himself for the inevitable retribution from those holding grudges.
Even if others couldn’t beat Yang Yi, it didn’t matter. As long as there were enough of them with a ruthless streak, the prison guards wouldn’t care who was right. They would punish both fighters, punishing them harshly, to the point of death if necessary, until no one dared to fight again.
If a gang decided to seek revenge on Yang Yi, they simply had to send someone to fight him every day. It didn’t matter if they couldn’t beat him— the guards would step in to handle Yang Yi.
Thinking of all those he had beaten before, Yang Yi knew his coming days would certainly be difficult.
When dinner time arrived, Yang Yi still went out, but he noticed the inmates were looking at him differently. And when he sat down at his usual spot, his gang looked as though they had lost a loved one.
As Yang Yi sat down at the table, Kirk didn’t put the food he had collected from others in front of him.
Kirk hesitated, then said to Yang Yi, "Boss, should we lay low for a few days? I think it might be wise to keep a low profile for now..."
Yang Yi nodded and responded, "Yeah, everyone be careful these next few days."
Everyone had seen Zhang Yong’s escape, and the other prisoners were still talking about it. But seeing his face bruised black and blue, Yang Yi’s gang knew better than to ask him about it.
Knowing retaliation was inevitable, he hadn’t expected it to come so quickly.
A white man walked by Yang Yi with his food tray, appearing not to look at him. But just as he came close to Yang Yi, he suddenly threw the tray at him and, grabbing a knife hidden beneath, lunged at Yang Yi.
Yang Yi threw his own plate away and, in one swift move, knocked the incoming knife aside and slapped the white man across the face. With just one strike, he knocked out half a row of the man’s teeth.
Rodriguez also stood up, pulling out a knife and charging menacingly at the retreating prisoner.
"Stop!"
Yang Yi shouted, and Rodriguez immediately halted. Yang Yi rushed forward to the retreating but not yet fallen white man and kicked him to the ground with one swift move.
Two shots rang out, and Yang Yi felt an intense pain in his back.
"Fuck! Not again!"
Yang Yi immediately hit the floor, knowing that if he didn’t, he would probably take more shots. Rubber bullets had hit him, and they were unbearable.
Waving his arms wildly, Rodriguez yelled, "What the hell! Stop! Stop!"
Two more shots rang out, and Rodriguez also fell to the ground, screaming in agony.
The prison guard quickly reached Yang Yi, stepped on him, grabbed his hands, and cuffed him.
As Yang Yi was dragged away, sliding across the ground, he had only one thought in his mind: Zhang Yong was really a bastard.
