Chapter 150: Chapter 149 Actually It’s Very Simple

Zhang Yong’s prison break shocked the entire Pelican Bay Prison, but the guards in the special security ward seemed unaffected, no matter how much commotion was going on outside, the guards in the special security ward acted as if nothing had happened.

Other than the beast Wayne being carried away in a body bag, it was as if nothing had happened in the special security ward.

Having worked there for several months, Yang Yi was certainly familiar with every guard, but he had only made friends with Clint.

And then there was George, whom Yang Yi hated so intensely he could barely scratch the itch of wanting to kill him.

But today there would be no problems, because even though it wasn’t Clint’s shift during the day, it also wasn’t George’s.

Yang Yi still wanted to know how the beast Wayne had managed to unlock his handcuffs and leg shackles. Now Brian could unlock his handcuffs because he had his help, but how the beast Wayne had done it was still a mystery.

But Yang Yi couldn’t ask; he couldn’t just ask a guard in the special security ward if someone had died there last night because such incidents should never happen, and when they shouldn’t happen, naturally, everyone was expected to keep their mouths shut, even if they knew, they had to pretend not to.

Unless someone brought it up on their own.

"Hey, do you know, last night the beast died!"

The first guard Yang Yi met seemed eager to tell him what had happened last night.

Moving closer and lowering his voice even more, the guard said mysteriously, "Do you already know about the beast’s death, but do you know how he died?"

"Uh, how did he die?"

"He was beaten to death trying to escape!"

Yang Yi gasped and said, "Escape?"

"Yes, escape. He had unlocked his handcuffs and leg shackles but do you know how he managed to do it?"

Yang Yi was very curious, so he really asked with curiosity, "How did he manage that?"

"He used saltwater to corrode his handcuffs and leg shackles, can you imagine?"

Yang Yi was completely stunned, then he said with astonishment, "Are you kidding me, saltwater? Corrosion?"

"I knew you wouldn’t believe it, I can hardly believe it myself, but that’s how it was. You don’t understand how it was done, do you? Let me tell you, the beast Wayne had been locked up here for a long time, and every day he would spread soup on the weak spots of his handcuffs and leg shackles, every single day, his soup contained salt, and the corrosive nature of saltwater is very strong!"

Yang Yi covered his forehead, thought for a moment, then still looking shocked, he said, "But that’s not right, buddy. If he corroded his handcuffs with saltwater, that seems plausible, but he’s been here for so long, haven’t you guys ever checked his handcuffs? I mean, if his handcuffs were corroded, wouldn’t someone have noticed?"

"Oh, buddy, his handcuffs were never opened, nor were his leg shackles. We would check if his handcuffs were still intact to prevent him from grinding them down on the ground, but no one would open them to check, you understand? He let the salt-containing soup seep into the joints of the handcuffs and leg shackles, the parts that can’t be seen without opening, and then wiped off the rust on the outside, just like that, at a critical moment all he had to do was give them a good twist, and the handcuffs and leg shackles would come apart. That’s how it was done."

Yang Yi truly hadn’t thought of this method.

Looking at Yang Yi’s stunned expression, the prison guard smiled smugly and said, "Beast Wayne succeeded, but he was killed last night by the on-duty police during his escape attempt. I really don’t know what he was thinking, coming up with such a method. Also, someone in the outer prison area escaped using a helicopter. Did you see it?"

"Uh, I saw it."

"I suspect it was a coordinated escape attempt gone wrong, which is why one got away, but Beast Wayne didn’t make it. Maybe they got the timing wrong, haha."

Obviously, Beast Wayne’s death would be treated as an escape attempt, and what exactly happened last night was likely only known by the few guards on duty at the time.

So, of course, someone was lying. The entire prison from top to bottom would have to cover up this matter, so the guard’s version was inevitably incorrect. However, Yang Yi was satisfied knowing how Beast Wayne managed to break his handcuffs and shackles.

Beast Wayne had the conditions to do so, because the guards only had to check that his handcuffs and shackles were intact, not open them for inspection or consider replacements. But it was different for Brian; his handcuffs and shackles were inspected daily, sometimes even opened for a physical exam, so Brian didn’t have the same opportunity.

The food contained salt, and so did the soup. If you continuously corroded handcuffs and shackles with saltwater over the years, they indeed would rust. They didn’t need to corrode completely to the point of breaking, only weaken enough to snap with brute force.

Therefore, from a theoretical standpoint, Beast Wayne’s method was entirely feasible, and Yang Yi was willing to believe the guard’s explanation.

"Really? That’s incredible."

"Of course it’s true; many have seen Beast Wayne’s handcuffs. They were barely hanging on by a thread, no doubt about it."

Yang Yi let out a sigh and said, "That’s truly incredible, but you foiled his escape plot. Uh, the one who ran outside is just a minor character. As long as Beast Wayne didn’t escape, that’s all that counts."

"Yeah, the inmate outside isn’t our responsibility. It’s good enough that we stopped Beast Wayne from escaping."

The guard was very pleased with Yang Yi’s words and, after expressing further sentiments, eventually left leisurely.

With his greatest doubt resolved, Yang Yi felt an immense sense of relief. However, Zhang Yong had left, and now he was the one in trouble.

Zhang Yong’s successful escape was one thing, but the security at Pelican Bay Prison was bound to be tightened as a result. Moreover, Zhang Yong had selfishly escaped on his own, which made any future escape attempts by Yang Yi even more difficult.

It was frustrating yet unavoidable. Zhang Yong’s success was due to his own abilities. If one wanted to leave, they still had to rely on themselves.

Now, Yang Yi was eager to get back and see what Zhang Yong had left behind.

Today was not only the day that Zhang Yong escaped but also when Brian was allowed out in the yard. Yang Yi hadn’t planned on meeting Brian today, but with these events unfolding, he felt it was better to see him.

While the event had just occurred and the supervision in the special ward hadn’t yet been tightened, it would be wise to meet and clarify any necessary information before they potentially clamped down for a thorough overhaul, possibly eliminating any future chances of meeting.

But with Zhang Yong gone, it would probably be even harder for Brian to escape from the special ward. At this moment, Yang Yi really had some complaints about Zhang Yong. It would have been fine to leave, but at least give a heads-up. Now, with no preparations made and Pelican Bay Prison sure to be strict for a while, Yang Yi knew his own escape would have to be postponed.
