Spy-x-War Showdown
Chapter 1364 - 1369 Gains and Losses

Chapter 1364: Chapter 1369 Gains and Losses

It’s easily explained, as long as you bring in the Grey-cloaked People, and they don’t mind Yang Yi doing so, they might even cooperate with him, so things become quite simple.

The attendees at the hearing started whispering among themselves, as Yang Yi’s statements were quite shocking. It was one thing for Aaron to have been a KGB mole, but his connection with a secret organization was too much to believe.

"Has anyone heard of the Grey-cloaked People?"

"I know them, they’re an organization that deals in intelligence, very mysterious, but I never thought they could reach into the CIA."

"How to deal with this matter..."

"Let’s see the evidence first, then... sorry, I’m afraid I need to report this truthfully."

Some people hung their heads dejectedly; these were CIA personnel. Others appeared calm because they were not with the CIA.

It’s one thing to have a mole as the Deputy Director of the CIA, but to be controlled by a mysterious organization is disgraceful. It brings shame not only to the CIA but to the entire United States intelligence community, though peer organizations of the CIA would only rejoice in its misfortune.

If it weren’t for Aaron’s high position, this issue could have been handled internally within the CIA, it wouldn’t have led to a hearing.

Porter coughed lightly and then said in a deep voice: "Let’s examine the evidence first, and if there is any more evidence, we should produce it quickly."

A USB was inserted into the computer, and a projection quickly displayed photos, names, records. This was solid evidence, and it was evidence Aaron himself had provided.

Walter was quickly summoned back to the office, and Porter said expressionlessly: "Go to Aaron’s house immediately, secure all items from his home, find a computer, and bring it here as fast as possible!"

As the head of the security department, this was Walter’s duty. His gaze swept over Yang Yi, seeing his calm demeanor, while others were either solemn or dejected, and Porter was expressionless. He knew Yang Yi had passed the test.

Walter hurriedly left with his subordinates, and after he left, Porter said to Yang Yi: "You’ve worked hard, there’s nothing more for you here. You can rest in the room next door for now. We’ll come to you if we have any questions."

The matter, of course, was far from over, but Porter and the others needed to discuss how to write their report and conclude this issue.

In the room next door, Yang Yi remained expressionless. He was not under any restrictions, no longer a suspect, his role now was to wait and see how Porter and the others would resolve the issue.

The best outcome would be becoming a hero; Aaron’s crimes exposed, Yang Yi as the whistleblower becoming a hero. On the surface, that would seem the best outcome, but Yang Yi didn’t wish for that.

The worst outcome would be Aaron’s crimes being covered up, with Yang Yi wrongly accused of being Aaron’s murderer, but that was completely impossible.

A mediocre outcome would be to cover up Aaron’s crimes, since he was dead, for the sake of the United States intelligence community’s reputation, handling it quietly. Though this would mean Yang Yi couldn’t immediately be promoted or get a raise for his credit, he might receive compensation after a while, but not immediately.

For Yang Yi, the best outcome would be for nothing to have happened. He really didn’t want to become a high-profile figure, held up as an example.

After being alone for a short while, Yang Yi was called into the meeting room next door to provide answers on key issues, like where the evidence was hidden, how he obtained it, and if Aaron said anything before he died.

He was asked a few questions and then sent back. After less than two hours, Walter had already brought back the most crucial piece of evidence from Aaron’s residence, a laptop.

Evidence personally prepared by Aaron himself, how could it not be comprehensive?

Everyone except Aaron benefited, including the exposed Grey-cloaked People.

Because Aaron once again provided the Grey-cloaked People with a protective cover, his evidence fully demonstrated that the Grey-cloaked People were merely an organization involved in intelligence trade. So Aaron exposed the Grey-cloaked People, yet protected them even better. If the CIA wanted to act against them, they would surely gain something, but could only scratch the surface, nothing more.

Porter benefited from Aaron’s death, and Yang Yi also benefited because Aaron’s evidence not only completely cleared Yang Yi, but also hinted implicitly at how much Aaron admired Yang Yi’s capabilities.

Aaron’s evidence was like writing a diary; in fact, it really could be considered as such, only recorded in a video format.

Who would have thought Aaron had been preparing his own defamation for more than twenty years, and who could believe he left these things simply to ensure that the person he valued could ascend more quickly?

What Aaron lost was his life, and reputation, which is even more important than life to many people.

After death, nothing remains!

Life, honor, status, all disappeared with Aaron’s death, leaving nothing behind.

How firm Aaron’s faith in the Grey-cloaked People must have been.

Knowing this, Yang Yi felt even more poignant about Aaron. He truly couldn’t understand Aaron, nor the Grey-cloaked People. He only felt that they were terrifying now.

Blind faith is terrifying.

"Brian, my God, Brian really was wronged, but Brian admitted he betrayed the country!"

Finally, someone noticed the segment about Brian.

Porter looked complicated; he knew about that segment of the past involving Brian and the Magic Box Squadron.

Yang Yi coughed lightly and then said in a low voice: "In fact, I’m quite familiar with Brian, all because of him. He told me that he was not a traitor, he just fell into a trap."

Aaron didn’t detail how he had set Brian up to take the blame, but he did write that he collaborated with the KGB to remove this obstacle and send him to jail.

Written vaguely enough to facilitate Yang Yi’s fabrication, and it happened decades ago, no need to be highly detailed.

However, while saying all this, Yang Yi felt quite complex. As for Brian, he did betray his country. Although Brian didn’t do anything particularly egregious, treason is treason, there’s no getting around it. Aaron first pinned this on Brian to screw him over, only to take it back onto himself later.

Brian suffered for half his life, but could end it with a good name. As for Aaron, he was glorious in life, but left with infamy after his death, his epitaph bearing only the word traitor.

The treason of both men was a fact, yet their gains and losses were equally hard to define.
