Chapter 1363: Chapter 1368: Easy to Explain
The level of secrecy surrounding Yang Yi’s identity was so high that the vast majority of the CIA didn’t even know he existed, let alone what crime he had committed.
So when Yang Yi returned to CIA headquarters, his appearance did not elicit any reaction, because even though some people knew that their Deputy Director Aaron had died at the hands of someone codenamed Sea God, they did not know that Yang Yi was Sea God.
Walter greeted Yang Yi at the door.
Strictly speaking, Yang Yi and Walter had a fairly good personal relationship, especially after Yang Yi gave Walter a car, so both professionally and personally, Walter was very pleased to see Yang Yi again.
First came a big hug, then Walter cheerfully said, "So happy to see you again, brother. Congratulations, not only did you succeed, but you also made it back alive."
Yang Yi said with great emotion, "Yeah, I made it back alive. It’s great to see you again because I really thought I’d never be able to stand here again."
Walter lowered his voice and said nervously, "Do you really have evidence? I have to remind you that, buddy, with regards to your case and your accusations against Aaron, the CIA has already prepared a hearing. Many officials will attend, and you’ll need to present the evidence publicly."
This was something Porter fought for; he couldn’t meet Yang Yi first because Aaron’s death was a big deal. Even if it wasn’t due to a conspiracy, it was only right to detain Yang Yi first. But Porter managed to secure a hearing for Yang Yi instead of an interrogation, which was already quite a favor and a significant effort from Porter for Yang Yi.
If Yang Yi can’t produce any evidence, or if the evidence isn’t strong enough, Porter would be the first to take severe action. Now they were like grasshoppers on the same rope, but Porter still had some leeway to maneuver, whereas Yang Yi had none.
"Of course I have evidence; otherwise, how would I dare to come back? Don’t worry, I not only have evidence, but it’s also very substantial."
Gesturing for Walter to lead, as Yang Yi and Walter walked side by side, Walter lowered his voice and said, "Don’t implicate too many people. The mole needs to be exposed, but..."
"I understand, don’t worry."
Aaron must have had accomplices. Walter didn’t know whether Yang Yi had evidence of Aaron’s accomplices, so if Yang Yi knew who else was the mole, it must be revealed because that’s the bottom line for an intelligence agency. However, if they were only stakeholders in Aaron’s interests, then it’s best not to mention them to avoid expanding the scope too broadly, delaying the resolution of Aaron’s matter and making it difficult to conclude.
The point was to throw any dirt onto Aaron as quickly as possible to close the case swiftly, allowing Porter to gain merit and Yang Yi to extricate himself from the case.
Yang Yi entered a conference room instead of an interrogation room, which was already a benefit Porter secured for him, considering a deputy director had died.
When Yang Yi entered with Walter, there were already six people in the conference room; aside from Porter, he didn’t recognize any of them.
There was no applause, but also no guards.
After sending Yang Yi through the door, Walter immediately left, while Porter stood up, pointing to a chair at the end of the conference table and said in a deep voice, "Please, let’s save some time. The hearing will begin shortly."
Porter had already stated his position. Although he didn’t say much, he made it clear that Yang Yi was his person.
Now Porter was already the second-ranked person in the CIA; on the surface, in reality, with Aaron no longer restricting, he could be counted as the first since the Director of the CIA was more like a human stamp and basically did not manage any real affairs.
Yang Yi sat down. He first exhaled lightly, then shook his head and with a resigned look, said earnestly, "I’m ready."
"Due to the special nature of this case, many people are unaware of your identity and your duties. Please first explain your identity."
The host was Porter. Yang Yi calmly said, "My codename is Sea God, my number is..."
After stating his name and number, Yang Yi continued, "I was recruited into the CIA by Jason Moore Haye. He gave me a special mission to investigate Aaron because Jason Moore Haye suspected Aaron was a KGB mole."
A middle-aged man finally couldn’t help himself and shouted, "Jason Moore Haye?"
"Yes, he gave me a number. I operated alone in Europe, looking for opportunities to get close to Aaron."
"Wait a minute, you were going to investigate Aaron, why were you in Europe?"
"Because I was with Brian at the time. Regarding Brian, it’s a bit complicated to explain..."
Porter nodded and said, "Please continue as you see fit. If we have any questions, we’ll ask later."
"Okay, I entered the CIA under the orders of Director McLaughlin and continued to lurk around Aaron for investigation until he was shot dead. I was under Aaron’s leadership the whole time."
"Did you kill Aaron?"
Finally, a middle-aged woman brought up Aaron. Yang Yi shook his head and said, "Of course not. In fact, Aaron was killed by his accomplices."
"His accomplices?"
"Yes, Aaron’s accomplices. Aaron was once a mole for the Soviet Union. After the Soviet Union dissolved, he didn’t continue working for Russia but contacted an organization called the Grey-cloaked People. I don’t know if any of you have heard of this name; it’s an organization in the intelligence trade. Aaron continuously provided secret intelligence to the Grey-cloaked People because they had evidence of Aaron’s crimes. They blackmailed Aaron, forcing him to obey the Grey-cloaked People."
Yang Yi mentioned the Grey-cloaked People without any hesitation, providing an explanation for the source of his evidence.
"Later, I will present the evidence. Once you see it, you’ll understand what happened. But what I want to say now is that Aaron was a mole, and he was in cahoots with the Grey-cloaked People. Still, he was always trying to break free from their control. Initially, I wasn’t qualified to know these things."
Yang Yi took a deep breath, pulled a USB flash drive from his pocket, and said softly, "The Grey-cloaked People were blackmailing and using Aaron, while Aaron always tried to get rid of their control. He was very concerned about his own safety, so he also recorded all his dealings with the Grey-cloaked People. If he died, he wanted to retaliate against the Grey-cloaked People. The evidence is on this USB drive, just part of it; more evidence is hidden on a computer at Aaron’s house. This will open the computer."
After saying that, Yang Yi shrugged and then said in a deep voice, "In fact, my investigation into Aaron made little progress, but due to a coincidence, I acquired this evidence. When Aaron died, I was right beside him. He was shot, and his initial reaction was that the Grey-cloaked People had targeted him. So he told me how to retrieve the evidence he intended to use against the Grey-cloaked People, and so I went and got it."
