Chapter 1346: Chapter 1351: Did It Because I Wanted To

It’s not close from Lisbon to Vienna by any means. Driving would be quite far, but Yang Yi really doesn’t dare to fly to Vienna right now.

Driving onto the highway, Yang Yi entered the borders of Portugal.

He definitely couldn’t keep using the appearance of an old man, and also, Yang Yi hadn’t returned since he left the yacht. They would definitely look for someone on the yacht. Although they wouldn’t find him, Yang Yi’s tracks might be exposed here.

What to do? Naturally, he could only continue to disguise himself and gradually move closer to Vienna.

Portugal and Spain are not key areas for the Organization of Water, so in these countries, there are no safe houses or support.

But it won’t be particularly difficult either.

Because Yang Yi is now out of the United States, he’s no longer fighting against a whole country by himself.

The biggest threat to Yang Yi now is the Grey-cloaked People, not intelligence agencies like the CIA or FBI. No matter how powerful the Grey-cloaked People are, they’re just a mysterious organization and can’t fully control countries like Portugal or Spain, so Yang Yi, although still cautious, definitely wouldn’t be chased around by the police.

Yang Yi drove off the highway, and when passing over a small bridge on a country road, he felt he’d found a suitable spot. So he parked his car in a clearing, confirmed no one was around, and opened the trunk again.

In the trunk, there was a briefcase and a suitcase.

Without touching the suitcase, Yang Yi picked up the bag, went through a small grove, and came to a small river.

Opening the bag, the contents were just like what appears in the movies.

Several passports, a driver’s license, credit cards, a handgun, a stack of Euro cash, some clothes, and items for disguise.

The most considerate thing was that the bag also contained a knife. Yang Yi first tucked the knife into his pocket and then changed his clothes and soaked himself in the river.

It was quite an ordeal to remove makeup by finding a secluded river, but Yang Yi definitely couldn’t check into a hotel. Checking into a hotel was easy, but going in as an elderly man and coming out as a young guy would certainly cause some trouble.

With the help of special drugs, Yang Yi could remove the disguise on his body. Although he was in the river, he still felt like he was taking a bath.

During the one week he had been on the yacht, Yang Yi hadn’t taken a bath. Although his disguise was waterproof and wouldn’t wash off, it didn’t cover taking a daily shower.

So it wasn’t an exaggeration to say that Yang Yi was starting to smell.

After bathing in the river, Yang Yi came ashore and changed his clothes, took a passport, and transformed himself to match the passport photo.

Next, he needed to change the car.

Yang Yi drove to the Lisbon downtown area, parked the car in a shopping mall’s parking lot, then went to rent a car. He drove the rented car back to the parking lot, transferred his belongings into the rented car, thus completing the first step.

After all, this was in Portugal. If it were in the United States, Yang Yi wouldn’t even dare to rent a car.

Yang Yi had had enough rest on the yacht, so after renting the car, he didn’t linger but drove from Lisbon straight to Madrid.

Upon reaching Madrid, Yang Yi returned the rented car very properly, changed his identity and appearance again, then rented another car — this time renting the best sedan available in Madrid.

It couldn’t be a sports car, too conspicuous. Yang Yi rented a Mercedes sedan. If he wanted to drive slowly to Vienna, driving a nicer car would certainly be more comfortable.

In Madrid, Yang Yi checked into a five-star hotel. Although escaping isn’t the time for enjoying, staying in comfort wasn’t wrong either.

After checking in, Yang Yi wanted to have a good sleep.

The danger wasn’t as intense now, rest was necessary when needed, and Yang Yi didn’t want to stretch his nerves too tight.

It was daytime now, afternoon, with just one or two hours before it would get dark. Yang Yi planned to go for dinner after waking up and then set out again the next morning.

However, just half an hour after falling asleep, Yang Yi woke up.

He didn’t feel uneasy, there were no signs of warning, but Yang Yi just woke up, then lay in bed pondering his escape journey.

Nothing seemed wrong, it was just going too smoothly.

After recalling carefully, Yang Yi still didn’t think he did anything wrong or encountered any issues, but he was awake, and not feeling sleepy anymore, so it would be better to do more things.

Yang Yi thought for a moment. With no particular reason, he just wanted to do something, to add another layer of security to his already safe situation, that was all. But since he had thought of it, he did it.

So Yang Yi left the hotel, went to a nearby supermarket to buy a small bag, and on the way back, he saw a small inn not far from the five-star hotel where he was staying. After thinking for a moment, Yang Yi returned to the five-star hotel, disguised and changed identities once more, then packed essentials in the small bag and went to the inn to rent a room.

It was cumbersome; because he was alone, everything was cumbersome.

Spaniards are quite lazy. Almost all shops close after dark, so Yang Yi hurried to buy an additional suitcase and a backpack before dark and left them in the inn.

Afterwards, Yang Yi returned to the five-star hotel and checked out, took his luggage to a place with no people to leave it, then went back to the inn to fetch the empty suitcase, brought it to the parking spot, switched the luggage to another suitcase, and then drove to another five-star hotel to check in.

After a series of tedious and seemingly pointless maneuvers, Yang Yi, staying at the new hotel, changed his appearance again. Then at ten o’clock in the evening, he quietly left the five-star hotel without driving his rented car. He took taxis, changing several times, until he finally returned to the small inn to stay.

Yang Yi didn’t know the point of this operation. Once again, he simply wanted to do it, so he did.

When Yang Yi had dinner and returned to bed, it was already eleven thirty in the evening, and he woke up again at midnight.

This time he was awakened by noise. An alarm at the bedside emitted a beeping sound—not loud, but an alarm sound nonetheless.

The alarm was from the room at the five-star hotel. The alarm sound indicated someone had broken in.

Yang Yi picked up the alarm device, which displayed images of three people entering the hotel room with guns.

Yang Yi’s convoluted operation wasn’t worthless; he just didn’t know who the people tracking him down were. But regardless of who they were, Yang Yi knew trouble had found him again.
