Chapter 1297: Chapter 1302 House Arrest
The situation is rather complicated, Azar is already panicking, he’s very panicked.
Azar hasn’t slept all night, his eyes are red, not because he’s too tired, but because the situation is truly disastrous.
"Why! Baghdadi’s location leaked!"
Azar tugged at his hair with his hands, asking this question for over the hundredth time.
Outside were guards with unfriendly gazes, and it’s clear they’re not common ISIS members; to be precise, they’re not ordinary ISIS, they are experts, rare experts among the low-intelligence group of ISIS on the battlefield.
Azar and Anton have been placed under soft custody because they’re suspects, though the suspicion is minimal, it still exists. If it weren’t for their special identity and status, they wouldn’t be just under soft custody.
Yes, it’s soft custody, not confinement, which is a big difference.
Azar stood up and said in a deep voice to Anton, "What do we do! Something must have happened to Baghdadi, we must do something, we need to get the message out, we can’t just sit here and watch the situation get worse."
Last night, explosions and combat suddenly erupted within downtown Mosul, shortly after, electronic interference began, cutting off all communications.
Anton managed to send out a crucial message, but he hasn’t figured out the situation yet, so he cannot know exactly what happened.
Baghdadi hasn’t met with him, so Anton doesn’t know Baghdadi’s location, he truly doesn’t; but Baghdadi’s location still leaked, then Satan came, and had a fierce firefight with Baghdadi’s guards.
Now Baghdadi hasn’t shown up, and no news has come through, meaning for ISIS there’s no command being issued, a clear sign that something happened to Baghdadi, most likely he is dead.
Anton really wants to figure out what happened, however, beyond his expectations, regardless of what happened to Baghdadi, Mosul should be in chaos now, but it isn’t. Mosul not only isn’t chaotic, order is maintained exceptionally well.
Looking at the entirety, Anton’s current situation isn’t too bad, because he couldn’t know Baghdadi’s location, so no one’s suspecting him, but the problem is Azar seems to know Baghdadi’s location, so after something happened to Baghdadi, Azar has been put under soft custody, so instead Anton got tangled up with Azar.
"We must figure out what happened!"
Anton finally spoke up, Azar waved his hand suddenly and said with a contorted face, "Of course, we have to know what happened! But..."
Anton also stood up, looked seriously at Azar and said, "Not just quickly getting the message out, but first knowing what happened, so we can’t just sit here and wait."
"But you saw the situation outside, they don’t trust me, they’re pointing guns at me, these bastards!"
After saying this with hatred, Azar said worriedly, "If... we might die!"
Anton looked at the closed door, then he said quietly, "Go talk to them, I’ll go talk, if they insist on keeping you here, then we’ll think of another way."
Azar said impatiently, "I’ve already talked to them many times!"
"Let me try this time."
After speaking, Anton took a deep breath, and then quietly said to Azar, "Just cooperate with me, if I fail or screw it up, you can think of a way to fix it."
Azar hesitated for a moment, finally nodded and said, "Okay, you give it a try."
Anton walked to the door, pulled it open, and immediately a person standing guard outside raised a hand to him, said in a deep voice, "Please go back, it’s very dangerous outside now."
Anton shook his head, said, "We need to talk, call your boss over, or I can go to him."
"I’ll say it again, get inside!"
Anton stared at the person blocking him, then suddenly said, "I’ll say it again, we need to talk, immediately!"
"Go back! I say this for the last time."
Anton was speaking in Arabic all along, but it was useless, calmly looking at the person in front, Anton switched to English, "Who do you think you’re talking to?"
The person wearing a turban, with a face mask on, but who had remained rather amicable, was angered by Anton. He finally raised his gun, pointed it at Anton’s chest, and said in a deep voice, "Get back!"
Anton suddenly laughed, then he quietly asked, "Buddy, where are you from?"
"Don’t waste words, get back! I’m running out of patience talking to you here."
Anton wiggled his finger, then he smiled and said, "Let’s just chat a bit, I’m really annoyed being locked up, brother, where are you from?"
"I’m Iraqi."
"No, you’re not Iraqi, let me tell you why, you’re angry and anxious now, but you still answered my question, because when someone asks where you’re from, your answer has become instinctive. But you’re not Iraqi, you are American."
"I don’t want to talk to you anymore, last warning!"
"No, you must listen to me finish, I just said, ’Who do you think you’re talking to?’ in English, and it’s slang that very few people use, only on the East Coast mafia would say it like that. Not only gangsters can understand it, but it’s unlikely for someone who’s not American to understand, let alone get upset."
"I’m of Iraqi descent, but I’ve lived in America for many years."
Anton laughed again, very calmly, "Buddy, I don’t know where you’re from, but I know you’re not a minor soldier, you should understand the stakes, that’s why I’m telling you this, listen. No matter what happened to Baghdadi, no matter how he is now, you and your bosses should first let us know."
Pointing to himself and then to Azar, Anton said quietly, "Do you know who we are? I represent the CIA, he represents Shah, do you know what that means? It means we both represent the most crucial forces supporting ISIS, now we don’t know what happened to Baghdadi, we’re locked up here, isn’t there a possibility?"
Anton paused, then he lowered his voice and said flatly, "Which is, no matter what happened to Baghdadi, if he died, should we continue supporting ISIS?"
"What do you mean?"
Anton shrugged and said, "The following words I shouldn’t say to you, should be said to the ones who truly make decisions here, I’ll just remind you of one thing, the attitude of those we represent impacts the future of ISIS, so at least we should know what the situation is now. Hmm, since I’ve said this, would you rather continue talking to me yourself or switch someone else to talk to us?"
