Chapter 1296: Chapter 1301: Situation Unclear
Yang Yi slept until the next morning, and the first thing he did after getting up was to contact Anton.
Actually, contacting Anton was somewhat redundant, because Brian had already tried to reach Anton many times last night. If there was any progress, Yang Yi would have been notified.
As expected, there was no way to reach him.
Yang Yi was certainly worried, so he contacted the Stone Statue to inquire about Paul’s situation.
Paul’s situation was not bad. His injuries weren’t severe to begin with, and he received prompt and good medical treatment in the Green Zone, so Paul wasn’t going to be in any trouble.
The only one left to contact was Grevatov.
No surprises there, still couldn’t reach Tartar, but Yang Yi received new information.
Gong Yang took Satan to Mosul, and then they couldn’t return. They left on two helicopters, but no one knew what happened after they arrived there.
Grevatov was more anxious than Yang Yi.
"Sea God, I need to seriously discuss a deal with you. Do everything you can to find out Satan’s current status, whether he’s wiped out or whatever. As long as you can provide intelligence, you can name your price!"
Yang Yi said softly, "You know it’s not a matter of money. Besides, I want to ask, Black Devil... is it time for him to personally go to Mosul and check the situation?"
Grevatov sighed, then spoke softly again, "Of course, we’ve been there, but it’s impossible to send back information. After Mosul got electronically jammed, all communications have been cut off, and our people can’t get in; everyone is opening fire on anything they see, like madmen."
Yang Yi was pleased and said, "That’s good news. This indicates the battle might not be over yet. Otherwise, ISIS wouldn’t be so tense, whether Baghdadi is alive or dead."
Grevatov reluctantly said, "You’re right, but we must determine what’s happened. We need to know Satan’s situation and location, or we can’t plan a rescue."
Yang Yi thought for a while and said, "Fair enough, but at least you can manage the situation. You should gather the rescue team. If Satan can still be saved, you need to be prepared."
Grevatov was helpless and said, "Besides us, who else can rescue Satan? You? Would you do it?"
Yang Yi thought, then said softly, "Frankly, the risk of going in to rescue Satan is too high, so I wouldn’t do it."
"That’s it, who’s going to help? Gong Yang knows many people, but I think in this situation, asking his so-called friends to go to Mosul for rescue, ha..."
Yang Yi and Grevatov’s views were similar—it’s best not to ask for trouble about this.
In the entire underworld, there’s no such thing as friendship. Either you’re one of us or an enemy. If there’s a third category, it’s those who are neither friends nor enemies. As for so-called friends, forget it. Who in the underground world still believes in friendship?
However, while Yang Yi’s rationality told him not to believe in such elusive things as friendship, his heart also felt that if he truly faced some life-threatening trouble, Danny would certainly help him, even if the whole world abandoned him, Danny and his Dark Night Knight would most likely help him no matter what.
Yang Yi wasn’t very confident because the world he saw was too dark, but his emotions kept telling him there were friends he could trust.
"Otherwise, maybe you should ask? I’m saying you should perhaps mention it to Gong Yang’s friends, hmm, maybe he really has good relationships and someone is willing to help him."
Yang Yi cautiously suggested, and Grevatov said calmly, "First, I don’t believe in such friendships. Second, I don’t think publicizing this all over the world, letting everyone know Satan is going after Baghdadi, is wise. Because, even if Satan’s people all die, at least their families can survive. But if the world knows Satan killed Baghdadi, the consequences would be serious."
Yang Yi sighed, too few people are willing to provide timely aid, but many are eager to kick someone when they’re down, Grevatov’s concern was justified.
In other words, besides the Black Devil, there’s no one Satan can rely on. Grevatov not only can’t ask for help, but he must also lock down the news.
Anton is still in Mosul. Even if others are unimportant, Anton is crucial. However, it seems Anton is not facing any particularly dangerous situation, so Yang Yi feels he doesn’t need to urgently return to Mosul.
No matter what problem Gong Yang runs into, it ultimately isn’t the Organization of Water’s issue.
Therefore, Yang Yi didn’t argue much with Grevatov, he quickly said, "If you have any new information, please inform me. Of course, if I get any news, I’ll let you know immediately."
After hanging up the phone, Yang Yi pondered for a while, contemplating whether he shouldn’t rush to leave Baghdad, although he could leave at any time.
Yang Yi’s seemingly dangerous situation was entirely self-created, and intentionally so. The more challenging and perilous his position seemed, the better he could negotiate benefits with Aaron.
So, Yang Yi had to continue staying in Baghdad; he needed to create an atmosphere, a sense of greater danger.
While Yang Yi was thinking about how to create some more convincing pretense, his phone rang.
The call was from Annastasia.
"What’s the situation?"
"Not great, but it’s still okay."
"Need any help?"
"Old Demon has lost contact in Mosul. If you can think of any way to reach him, please try."
"I know, I’ll think of something, but it’s not very promising. The communication cutoff isn’t the worst part; the complete lockdown of Mosul is. Even if I can send someone over, it’s impossible to transmit messages back in time. Worse, our people can’t get in or out."
After speaking, Annastasia said in a low voice, "But I’ll try my best, it’s a worthwhile opportunity."
There’s not much more to say; Yang Yi’s real situation couldn’t be discussed over the satellite phone provided by the Grey-cloaked People, so Annastasia didn’t know his real circumstances, but she likely had an idea due to some brief codewords exchanged in their conversation.
Yang Yi thought for a moment and said softly, "Should we contact Justin?"
Annastasia laughed calmly, "Justin? He just wants to buy our intel with money. If he had information, he wouldn’t be in a hurry to reach us. Yes, Justin has contacted me, he’s willing to pay a fortune for information about Mosul. So, the truth is, Justin knows nothing about what’s happening in Mosul."
