Chapter 126: Chapter 125: Ruthless Person
The cell door closed, and indeed no alarm sounded; of course, even if there had been one, Yang Yi wouldn’t have heard it, but after waiting for over ten minutes without any guard coming to check, it was natural to assume that the door wasn’t locked.
Yang Yi lay back on his own bed, then he started to hesitate as he looked at Hank standing in the corner of the wall.
The role of a snitch is actually a very nasty one; in prison, there is a type of person who is shunned by all inmates, and that is the snitch. Even if the snitch is so tough that nobody dares to mess with them, they are still scorned and ostracized by all. If they can’t beat you or afford to provoke you, then they can still achieve isolation by simply not speaking to you and having no dealings with you.
So, Yang Yi really didn’t want to be a snitch, but the idea Owen had come up with was a good one; at least, for a prisoner held in the section for serious offenders to get a job, they definitely had to have made a significant contribution.
Having the reputation of a snitch was unpleasant to hear, but Yang Yi didn’t dwell on it for too long.
Zhang Yong had treated him well, and since Yang Yi had already resolved to kill the beast Ryan to ease Zhang Yong’s mind so that he would be willing to leave prison, he certainly wasn’t going to give up for fear of being labeled a snitch.
Moreover, Yang Yi wasn’t going to spend his entire life in prison, so being a snitch, he decided to be one. To accomplish something, you always have to pay a price, and this price was not considered large.
It was just that Yang Yi felt quite regretful; he really wanted to learn something from Hank, but having become a snitch, that opportunity had essentially vanished.
Furthermore, this wasn’t just ordinary snitching; this was framing someone, which was ultimately a guilty act.
However, sacrificing a stranger to save a good friend, Yang Yi was not a paragon of virtue. Although he really did feel guilty, he still made the choice quite readily.
Once he made up his mind, there was no more need to hesitate.
Considering that he was about to throw Hank out as a sacrificial pawn, Yang Yi, ridden with guilt, did not have the heart to punish Hank any further, so he whispered, "Don’t stand in the corner anymore, come here."
With trembling unease, Hank turned around, a flattering smile on his face as he looked at Yang Yi, whispering, "Thank you, thank you, boss."
Yang Yi said leisurely, "You should have slept directly on the floor, but I am a very magnanimous person; I will allow you to spread a blanket to sleep. If you snore, grind your teeth, or fart while sleeping..."
"No! Absolutely not! I’m extremely quiet when I sleep."
"Good, that’s how it should be."
With trepidation, Hank took down his bedding, then he lay on the floor, daring not to move an inch.
Yang Yi maintained a large amount of exercise every day, so as soon as the lights went out, he could quickly fall asleep.
But this time was an exception. Although Yang Yi was tired, sleeping wasn’t mandatory, and there was a new inmate in his cell, one he had beaten up badly. To sleep without any guard up was too careless.
Yang Yi closed his eyes, seemingly asleep, and after a while, even began to emit light snoring sounds, but he remained alert all the while.
However, after a long time, when Hank did nothing but adjust his position slightly, Yang Yi finally let his guard down.
Yang Yi really fell asleep.
He didn’t know how long he had slept until he heard a soft click.
Yang Yi immediately woke from his sleep and opened his eyes.
Using the light in the corridor, Yang Yi could faintly make out a dark figure hurling towards him, accompanied by a swish of air.
Yang Yi immediately jolted upright, and then a heavy object landed on his pillow.
Yang Yi swung his fist to the side and landed a punch right on Hank’s ribs. Despite the heavy blow to his ribs causing Hank to grunt in pain, he shook the object in his hand violently and wrapped it around Yang Yi’s neck, then pulled with both hands.
Yang Yi’s left hand was raised in time to protect his neck, only to feel an iron chain being tightened around it fiercely.
"Strangle you to death!"
With teeth clenched, Hank shouted, and although the lighting was dim, Yang Yi could still see Hank’s ferocious profile.
Hank tried to move behind Yang Yi; the object he was using to strangle Yang Yi’s neck was his own shackle.
Yang Yi was momentarily on the defensive, but he was not in danger. In fact, as soon as he had awoken to the noise, Hank could not pose any real threat to him.
"I’ve had enough, die!"
Hank used all his strength to tighten the iron chain, truly intending to strangle Yang Yi to death.
Yang Yi pushed the chain tightening around his neck with his left hand, then spun halfway around, punching Hank hard in the stomach.
With a cry of pain, Hank’s arms immediately lost their strength, and Yang Yi easily pulled the iron chain from his grasp.
Barefoot, Yang Yi stood up, and with another punch, Hank immediately curled up on the ground, too pained to even speak.
With the iron chain in hand, Yang Yi took a close look, confirming it indeed was Hank’s shackle.
As Hank clutched his stomach and looked at Yang Yi again, his expression was one of seeing a ghost, as he pleaded urgently, "Don’t come over! Don’t! Sorry..."
Yang Yi was suddenly taken aback. Faced with someone who had just tried to kill him, he was suppressing the impulse to beat the man to death, but Hank’s appearance made him utterly astonished.
"Forgive me! It was just a spur of the moment, I was joking with you. I have money, I can pay for my life, please boss, I was wrong, give me a chance to buy my life with money. If you’re angry, hit me, but please don’t kill me, that’s no good for you either, I won’t dare again..."
Hank began to cry out, struggling to kneel on the ground, begging through tears, "Please forgive me this time, I beg you."
Hank looked extremely pitiful, but if Yang Yi believed him now, he would have seen a ghost.
Who would have thought that Hank, the man who softens like a puddle of mud at the slightest pressure, shoe-dirtying cursory if stepped on, would dare to strike a killing blow when given the chance.
So Hank wasn’t some docile little lamb; he was a ruthless person capable of bending and snapping back with fierce and dark cruelty.
Yang Yi didn’t hit Hank nor did he scold him. He just sat back down on the bed, swinging the shackle in his hand and said with interest, "You wanted to kill me!"
Clutching his stomach, Hank sobbed pitifully, "Sorry, how could I dare to kill anyone? I just, just wanted to warn you, I was wrong. The truth is, I was blinded by anger. But how could I dare to kill? I just wanted you to stop bullying me, sorry..."
Yang Yi nodded, then whispered, "Shut up, let’s not bother with these pointless words. Right now, I just want to know how you opened the shackle."
