Chapter 1230: Chapter 1235 What’s the Point
Poison isn’t some high-tech invention; the high-tech part lies in the capsule encasing the poison.
Yang Yi glanced at the plate, then said casually, "Save one for research, and give me the other."
A poison capsule pre-installed in the bone—it really looked like a capsule. The question was, what was the purpose of this poison capsule?
If it only served to delay killing or employed timed killing, then Aaron implanting this thing in the bodies of Yang Yi and Anton would essentially mean their inevitable deaths. Of course, the same applied to Xiao Ran.
If this poison capsule could be remotely activated, then it truly represented cutting-edge technology of the highest caliber. If not, it merely indicated Aaron’s intent to have him dead. Moreover, with a capsule that wouldn’t break for decades, what was the point of its existence?
The composition of the poison required testing, and the material of the shell also needed examination. Gweil, the professor, could analyze the poison’s components, but the effectiveness and structure of the shell needed to be scrutinized by someone even more specialized.
Hand it over to the cleaners? No, Yang Yi was now more inclined to trust another person.
After carefully storing away the poison capsule, Yang Yi was finally able to engage the group in a proper discussion about the current situation.
"The situation this time is seriously complicated."
Pausing for a moment, Yang Yi exhaled and said, "Aaron is putting enormous pressure on me. His demeanor suggests he won’t say much for now. Right now, all we can do is observe for a while longer and concentrate on completing the tasks Aaron assigned. So, let’s focus our attention on Yarebin’s funeral first."
Brian spoke in a low voice, "Why is Aaron so fixated on Yarebin’s funeral?"
Yang Yi looked at Anna in surprise, assuming she’d already explained it to Brian.
Annastasia exhaled and addressed Brian, "You can afford not to care, but Aaron cannot. Every senior CIA officer has to pay attention because this represents Russia’s future attitude toward intelligence personnel. If Russia intends to achieve greater success on the intelligence front, it will have to give Yarebin a high-level funeral. Yarebin’s impact on the KGB is epoch-making. Even though Yarebin has aged and the Soviet Union has collapsed, the successors of the KGB must continue to emphasize Yarebin’s historical significance and contributions."
Brian shrugged and remained silent, as the logic was straightforward and easily understood once explained.
Annastasia turned to Yang Yi and said, "I don’t think Aaron is focusing on the Russian government’s stance, though. Given the current circumstances, the Russian government is all bark and no bite. They constantly yearn for the glory of the Soviet era, but the issue is that Russia simply doesn’t have the capability. So, could Aaron’s focus be on the Black Devils instead?"
Yang Yi frowned and said, "The Black Devils? The aging Black Devils are formidable, sure, but are they truly worth such attention from Aaron?"
Anton shook his head and replied, "Don’t dismiss it like that. Have you not heard about what happened in New York?"
"What happened?"
Anton spoke quietly, "The Soviet emblem was painted on the Statue of Liberty, along with a nuclear bomb symbol. You didn’t know?"
Yang Yi froze and said, "I really didn’t know. I’ve been extremely busy recently."
Anton said in a low voice, "That was the Black Devils’ doing. Before Yarebin passed away, he staged one final show for his greatest enemies in America, demonstrating what the Black Devils could achieve. If they can spray graffiti on the Statue of Liberty, they could just as easily place a suitcase-sized nuclear bomb there."
Not knowing about such a significant incident, the mood became rather awkward.
It was genuinely awkward. As a seasoned professional in high-level intelligence, Yang Yi’s ignorance about such a major event was shocking. Anna, Anton, and many others assumed that it wasn’t necessary to inform Yang Yi specifically, as no one expected him to be out of the loop. Yet, since he didn’t bring up the matter himself, there was no reason to raise it. This situation was not only awkward but even somewhat laughable.
After a few moments of silence, Yang Yi softly asked, "You mean Yarebin traveled to New York right before his death to stage a demonstration?"
Annastasia nodded and said, "Indeed. He showcased that the Black Devils are still strong. Maybe twenty years from now, all the Black Devils will have passed away, but for now, Yarebin staged a demonstration. Why would he do that? Don’t you feel curious? Would Aaron not be curious as well?"
Yang Yi frowned deeply in thought, then said gravely, "Tell me everything that happened."
Anton gave a detailed account to Yang Yi.
A few nights ago, someone climbed up the Statue of Liberty and sprayed the hammer-and-sickle emblem onto the tablet she was holding. Then, they spray-painted a nuclear symbol onto her chest.
With the pedestal, the Statue of Liberty’s height is ninety-six meters!
Who did it? How did they do it? No one knew, as no one was caught.
Similarly, Wall Street’s iconic statue—the bronze bull—was defaced with a spray-painted nuclear bomb symbol and the words "Down with Capitalism."
The incident wasn’t exactly earth-shattering, but it was by no means small either. It was a political embarrassment for the United States, though the public was more concerned about who did it and how.
Listening to Anton’s account, Yang Yi felt his curiosity deeply piqued. Perhaps the situation wasn’t thrilling, but it was undeniably intriguing.
Anton, who was privy to inside information, responded to Yang Yi’s curiosity. "So this really was the Black Devils’ work?"
Anton nodded affirmatively and said quietly, "Yes. Yarebin acted like a mischievous child, believing it was necessary to show Americans what they could achieve while he was still capable of action. So, they went ahead and did it."
Yang Yi frowned and asked, "What’s the point of it?"
"I don’t know. I really don’t. It’s just something Yarebin decided to do."
Yang Yi looked at Annastasia, who shook her head and said, "Don’t look at me; I don’t know either."
No wonder Aaron was so focused on Yarebin.
Yang Yi thought long and hard before speaking with a bewildered expression. "If... If Yarebin was just joking around? I mean, as in, he simply wanted to show off his own prowess. Even if he doesn’t plan to take further action, making others aware of his capabilities is still... understandable, isn’t it?"
Anton chuckled, and Annastasia smiled as well. Then Anton replied quietly, "Black Devils never do anything without meaning. Never."
"Exactly. The Black Devils absolutely never do anything meaningless, especially the King of the Black Devils."
Annastasia exhaled and said, "So why did Yarebin do this? To demonstrate strength or... send a signal?"
Yang Yi furrowed his brow and asked, "What kind of signal?"
Annastasia replied, "I don’t know. But what if that symbol was some kind of revelation?"
Yang Yi turned to Annastasia and asked, "What do you mean?"
