Chapter 1212: Chapter 1217: Exposing the Truth
Expecting to bite off one’s tongue and die is impossible at this point. Elvin isn’t that foolish. However, by mangling his tongue completely, he could at least delay the interrogation.
Delaying the interrogation might provide a chance for the Cleaners to rescue him—or silence him completely. Either way, it’s absolutely better than suffering endlessly in the hands of the Grey-cloaked People.
Though the odds are slim, there’s still a glimmer of hope.
Unfortunately, Aaron didn’t give Elvin the chance. The moment Elvin began biting his tongue, Aaron activated the electric shocks. The shocks caused Elvin to lose control of his body, leaving him with nothing but a bleeding tongue.
Yang Yi felt like waves of turmoil were crashing inside him. Of course, none of that showed on his face.
Should he bear witness to Elvin’s punishment?
After pondering for a mere moment, Yang Yi said softly, "No, I don’t enjoy watching this. You can proceed."
Aaron didn’t make any move, but the interrogators entered through the door. Aaron remarked nonchalantly, "You may continue. This man is a tough one. Treat him properly."
Aaron stood up; he intended to personally push Yang Yi’s wheelchair. Without lifting his head, Yang Yi asked, "You’re not staying to watch?"
"No need. I don’t enjoy witnessing these scenes either. I prefer lying comfortably outside and watching through CCTV."
While pushing Yang Yi out of the room, Aaron glanced back at Elvin and then smiled at Bonnie, saying, "Don’t worry. From this moment onward, you’re completely free. I promise, you can do whatever you want, go wherever you please."
Bonnie didn’t respond. She simply opened the door and let Aaron push Yang Yi out of the operating room.
After taking a few steps, Aaron suddenly asked, "Who’s your father?"
Yang Yi answered in a low voice, "Can I choose not to say?"
"Hmm, that’s not ideal, but... alright, you can keep it to yourself."
Yang Yi snapped irritably, "If you already know, stop pretending to ask. If you don’t know but want to find out, then be honest and tell me."
Aaron grinned. "I don’t know, but I’d like to. However, I could always inquire with headquarters—they probably know."
Yang Yi exhaled deeply, replying, "Fine, I figured as much. I have plenty of questions, like how you all even know about my origins, but I won’t ask now. You wouldn’t answer anyway."
After a brief silence, Aaron suddenly said, "I don’t know the full details. I just recently received the intel myself. Now let me tell you what I do know. For instance, I’m aware of who your parents are, but I don’t know how they died—that’s classified. Furthermore, I can offer you another secret, which is..."
Aaron abruptly paused. Impatient, Yang Yi retorted, "Can you spit it out already?"
"I’m contemplating how to phrase it without overly shocking you. Um, alright then... your mother is one of the Grey-cloaked People."
Yang Yi froze immediately. For what seemed like an eternity, he had no idea what to do. His thoughts were an incomprehensible mess.
"Surprised? Let me explain further. Your mother was part of the Grey-cloaked People, and your father was a collaborator with the Cleaners. Uh... I don’t know the specifics, but I can find out soon. Now, how did we confirm your identity? DNA. We have a sample of your mother’s DNA."
Yang Yi turned his head despite the pain in his neck, the ache in his face, and the strain on his shoulders. He couldn’t help but twist his body to meet Aaron’s gaze.
Aaron offered a small smile and said darkly, "Why are we confident about you? Because the Cleaners assumed they could bind your loyalty by exploiting your connection to them, but they overlooked your deeper ties to the Grey-cloaked People. You possess hyperthymesia, don’t you? No—let me correct that. It’s not simply hyperthymesia; it’s an extraordinary memory far beyond even genius levels. How do we know this, you ask?"
Yang Yi was too stunned to respond.
Aaron nodded slightly and continued, "Because your mother told us. We still have reports from tests conducted when you were three and five years old—records preserved in archives. Do you want to see them?"
Yang Yi took a deep, trembling breath and asked shakily, "What else don’t I know?"
Aaron sighed, "Unfortunately, a lot I can’t clarify, and you’ll need to go to headquarters to find the answers. I’ve only been provided with these details; I don’t have more specifics beyond that."
"When can I go to headquarters?"
Aaron chuckled and replied, "I don’t know. That depends on headquarters’ decision. When they believe you’re ready, you’ll be granted access."
Yang Yi seemed lost and bewildered as he stammered out, "Why not tell me right now?"
Smiling faintly, Aaron shrugged and said, "Because everything you’ve heard so far is classified, and you’re not yet qualified to access such secrets. When the time comes for you to know, it means you’ll also have gained clearance to explore our core truths. Let me be candid, Yang Yi—when you’ve fully integrated into the Grey-cloaked People, you’ll understand the purpose we fight for, and I’m confident you’ll become one of us, truly."
Yang Yi asked with a trace of confusion, "So what you’re saying is that I still need to undergo some sort of test, right? Tell me what you want me to do."
"Don’t rush, don’t rush. It’s not time yet. For now, focus on recovering from your wounds."
With a gentle smile, Aaron pushed Yang Yi into a room that contained a surveillance monitor.
Setting Yang Yi down, Aaron positioned himself in a swivel chair before the monitor. He leaned back, propped his legs up on the table, and pressed the microphone button on the desk, saying, "You may begin now."
After speaking, Aaron turned to Yang Yi and smiled, "I brought you here without asking permission, knowing you’re acquainted with Elvin. I’d rather you observe his responses—it’ll help with our assessment of him. Of course, if you feel uncomfortable, Bonnie can take you back to rest."
Yang Yi considered briefly before replying, "I’ll stay for now. If I want to leave, I’ll let you know."
Nodding, Aaron activated the audio system.
Someone injected a substance into Elvin before driving dozens of needles into his body. Shortly after, Elvin’s body began convulsing violently.
"A mild electric current—but it directly stimulates the most sensitive nerves. This kind of agony exceeds what humans can endure. The interrogation plan is to elicit answers swiftly by exerting the most intense pain. Based on what you said earlier, he’s already begun talking, so the desired outcome should come shortly."
Despite sounding confident, Aaron’s expression gradually darkened.
No screaming, no speaking, no sound at all. Elvin remained utterly silent.
Five minutes passed, and the only audible sound was the splatter of his urine dripping to the floor after he lost control.
Unable to contain his frustration, Aaron grabbed the microphone and shouted angrily, "What’s going on? This is nothing like what you assured me!"
