Chapter 1201: Chapter 1206: Unfortunate News

Entered the hospital, treated the wounds, and soon Yang Yi fell into a coma.

There was no choice but to faint—his shoulder had been penetrated by a bullet. No matter how you look at it, it was a major surgery, and full anesthesia was necessary. Extended unconsciousness was normal.

When Yang Yi opened his eyes, the first things he saw were the snow-white ceiling, the quiet hospital room, and the unusual sense of discomfort wrapping his face.

He reached out and touched his face—it was covered in gauze. This was the result of treatment after being disfigured.

His head hurt, his body was pierced with many tubes. After Yang Yi opened his eyes, he tried hard to recall for a while before piecing together where he was and what he was doing.

He immediately tried to sit up, but failed. His attempts triggered a series of urgent alarms from the medical instruments monitoring his heart rate and breathing.

Of course, Yang Yi couldn’t hear them.

Just as Yang Yi attempted to sit up a second time, the door to the hospital room was pushed open. A nurse rushed in, followed by a doctor, and finally a CIA operative.

"You’re awake."

Speaking in an indifferent tone, the man raised his hand and gestured for Yang Yi to stay still. Then he said urgently, "Don’t move. You’re safe now. You’re in the United States. You’ve been brought back."

Yang Yi asked anxiously, "What about my people? The... girl—how’s she doing?"

"Which one are you talking about?"

"The one who was shot!"

The man hesitated slightly, nodded, and said, "She’s doing well. She’s in the room next door. She hasn’t woken up yet, but she’s out of critical condition. You can visit her anytime."

Yang Yi looked doubtful and asked softly, "She’s really doing well?"

"Yes, really well!"

Yang Yi let out a breath of relief, then asked quietly, "What about the other girl?"

"Oh, she’s fine too. If I notify her, she can come see you right away. But Aaron is waiting for you—I think you should meet with him first now that you’ve woken up."

Yang Yi looked at the man before him. He didn’t recognize him but had no doubt he was someone trusted by Aaron.

"What about the other person? He’s okay too?"

"Oh, of course. He’s alive. He’s doing well. You’ll be able to see him soon too."

Everyone was fine, everyone was safe. This was the best possible outcome. Yang Yi let out a long breath, but he still didn’t feel entirely at ease.

"Why isn’t one of my people looking after me? Where is she? Let her come here!"

"You should meet Aaron first! It’s important!"

The man speaking to Yang Yi reached out to steady the agitated Yang Yi and said seriously, "Your people are alright. They’re fine. But you should focus on your mission now, buddy!"

Yang Yi took a deep breath and nodded. "Alright, let me meet Aaron."

"My name is Keaton."

After briefly introducing himself, Keaton turned to the doctor and asked, "Doctor, is he fit to leave?"

"Technically yes, but it’s risky. My recommendation is to observe him in the hospital room for another two days before moving him."

Keaton hesitated briefly before picking up the phone and dialing a number. After a few moments, he spoke quietly, "Sir, he’s awake but not yet fit to move. Understood. Yes, sir."

After hanging up, Keaton turned to Yang Yi and said, "The boss will come to see you. Wait here. I’ll be right outside. If you need anything, just ask."

Yang Yi said anxiously, "Why the rush? Don’t you understand how I feel right now? Tell me—where am I?"

Keaton replied in a low voice, "Washington. Caroline Medical Center. Bonnie is at headquarters—she’s the only one awake, and the boss needs to question her. She’ll come with the boss soon. Your people are in the room next door—alive and safe. For now, there’s little point in seeing them. Just wait patiently."

Keaton left.

This wasn’t the way a wounded hero should be treated. Even if Yang Yi wasn’t a hero, no colleague should be treated this way. So Yang Yi knew—whatever was coming was going to be big.

After waiting for a full two hours—and growing increasingly anxious—Yang Yi finally saw the hospital room door open again.

Aaron walked in, smiling.

Keaton followed Aaron inside, dragging a chair to place beside Yang Yi’s bed. But Aaron didn’t sit; he casually gestured for Keaton to leave.

Standing beside the hospital bed, Aaron looked at Yang Yi for a long time before finally smiling and saying, "Looks like you messed up this time."

Yang Yi let out a slow breath and nodded. "Yes, I messed up..."

Aaron pointed at Yang Yi’s face, shaking his head with a sigh. "Did you know? You have ten wounds on your face—exactly ten. Your face is ruined. If we don’t do something about it, it’d really be a pity for such a handsome face. So I’ve made a decision for you. Not only have I arranged for your wounds to be treated in the best way possible, but I’ve also scheduled cosmetic surgery for you. And while we’re at it, we’ve made some subtle adjustments to your face—made your eyes a bit larger, your nose slightly higher. Simply put: your face is now even more perfect. Minor changes, nothing drastic."

Yang Yi said helplessly, "Whether I’m handsome or not doesn’t matter. You know I don’t rely on my looks to get by. Sir, can we talk about the important stuff now?"

Aaron shrugged. "I thought you might thank me. Alright, the important thing is—you let Gong Yang escape."

Yang Yi shook his head. "No, I just didn’t have the ability to stop him."

Aaron sighed. "You let him go. You didn’t give me enough reaction time. You know I’ve always wanted to catch Gong Yang. You got close to him, yet you let him slip away."

Yang Yi remained silent for a long time before finally saying softly, "I’m sorry. I was too eager for personal glory."

"Oh?"

Yang Yi sighed. "I wanted to prove myself—to capture Gong Yang on my own and show you I could complete this mission impressively. But I didn’t expect... I didn’t expect..."

Yang Yi finally looked Aaron in the eye and said softly, "I didn’t expect Gong Yang to have so many guards. There were dozens of people secretly protecting him. Fuck!"

Aaron gently shook his head, then smiled. "Is this all you want to tell me?"

Yang Yi said quietly, "Sir, what more do you want me to say—an apology? Fine, I’ll apologize. I wasted an excellent opportunity. I should apologize."

Aaron chuckled softly before lowering his voice to ask, "How important are the two injured people to you?"

Yang Yi hesitated for a moment before saying, "They’re my brothers, my friends, my trusted aides. And... I love her!"

Yang Yi looked at Aaron with a serious expression and said, "Yes, I love her. So tell me—does she really have no issues?"

Aaron pressed his lips together before nodding. "Alright, since it’ll come out eventually, I’ll tell you now—I have some bad news for you. I’m sorry."
