Chapter 1202: Chapter 1207: Pretending to be Deceived
Yang Yi looked dazed, and Aaron gently patted his uninjured right hand twice, saying, "I’m sorry to bring you this unfortunate news."
Yang Yi shook his head. He looked at Aaron, but his eyes were empty.
Aaron sighed, glanced at his watch, and said, "I’ve spoken to the doctor. The anesthesiologist is controlling the timing of your awakening. She should be waking up soon, and you can go see her."
Yang Yi remained motionless in his daze. After Aaron waited quietly for a moment, Yang Yi finally said softly, "Does she know?"
"Of course not. Her injuries are far more severe than yours. She hasn’t woken up yet."
Yang Yi covered his mouth with his hand, the pain hitting his face, then placed his hand over his eyes to hold back the tears.
"I’m really sorry, but everyone truly did their best..."
Yang Yi nodded lightly, then murmured, "Where’s Bonnie?"
"She’s outside. You’ll get to see her shortly. But I recommend you check on Xiao Ran first. What do you think?"
Yang Yi nodded slightly and said, "Thank you, sir."
Aaron stood up, went to open the door, and whispered a few words. Very quickly, a doctor and a nurse came in with a wheelchair.
Yang Yi was carefully transferred into the wheelchair and then wheeled into the intensive care unit next door.
Xiao Ran was already awake. Her eyes were open, but they were still clouded. Yang Yi sat by Xiao Ran’s bedside, gazing at her with deep affection.
He didn’t speak to disturb her, and it wasn’t until Xiao Ran’s pupils suddenly contracted, signaling an attempt to move, that Yang Yi gently said, "Hey, my queen, don’t get agitated. We’re safe now."
Xiao Ran slowly turned toward him, looking at Yang Yi with confusion. After a moment, she weakly asked, "Can your face still be seen?"
Yang Yi said softly, "I think so. I had reconstructive surgery. Who knows, I might even look better than before."
Xiao Ran let out a faint sigh of relief and whispered, "That’s good. Otherwise, a face full of scars... What a pity, right?"
Suddenly, Xiao Ran seemed to remember something and said softly, "I’m not dead? That means you owe me three lives, and now you have a chance to repay them?"
Yang Yi was speechless. Xiao Ran asked about his face before realizing she wasn’t dead.
"That’s right. You’re not dead, and neither am I, so I can repay you slowly."
Xiao Ran said with some annoyance, "What a bother. I thought I was going to die. Hmm, I can’t feel my legs. This feeling is a bit strange."
Yang Yi remained silent. Xiao Ran took a deep breath and tried to lift her head, but her head never left the pillow.
She could only look at Yang Yi with puzzled eyes and asked with confusion, "What’s going on? Is it the anesthetic? Why can’t I feel my legs?"
Yang Yi softly replied, "It’s the anesthetic. It hasn’t worn off yet. You’ve only just woken up; how could you recover so quickly? Don’t worry, be good, and don’t overthink."
Xiao Ran stared blankly at Yang Yi, then suddenly asked, "Did I have an amputation? No, am I paralyzed?"
Yang Yi didn’t know what to say. He could only remain silent.
With a slightly panicked tone, Xiao Ran said, "I knew it when I was shot. My legs suddenly lost all sensation—completely numb. Even if I was shot in the stomach, my legs shouldn’t have lost all feeling. Is it... is it..."
Yang Yi took a deep breath, then said softly, "Xiao Ran, you..."
After considering how to phrase it, Yang Yi tried to use a calm tone, "The bullet ricocheted in your abdomen and hit your spine, causing nerve damage, which resulted in temporary... paralysis. But it’s okay; this can be treated. The doctors said it’s a bit complicated and will take a long time to recover. Sigh, it’s really troublesome. It might even take a year or two."
Xiao Ran exhaled softly, her face showing relief as she said with gratitude, "It’s good to be alive. Being able to recover is even better. A year or two isn’t long—it’ll be over soon. Thankfully, it can be cured. Thankfully..."
Yang Yi nodded and said, "Yes, with advanced technology, you’ll definitely recover."
Xiao Ran suddenly asked, "Is Lao Yao okay?"
"He’s fine. He’s out of danger too. I’ll go see him later."
"Then go now. I’m worried about him."
"Alright, I’ll go check on him. I can’t stay here much longer anyway. The doctors will come in to examine you soon. Be good and rest well, and you’ll recover quickly."
"Okay, go ahead."
A nurse came in and turned Yang Yi’s wheelchair around. As soon as he turned, tears started streaming down his face. Luckily, the gauze absorbed them, so they weren’t clearly visible to others.
After Yang Yi turned away, his tears unnoticed, Xiao Ran, unable to even turn her head, had silent tears rolling down her cheeks.
Paralysis.
Perhaps a miracle might occur. Some people’s paralysis can truly be cured.
But could Xiao Ran’s condition really improve?
Yang Yi knew it couldn’t.
Xiao Ran knew it couldn’t either.
Yang Yi lied to Xiao Ran, saying it could. Xiao Ran pretended to believe him.
Yang Yi knew he couldn’t deceive Xiao Ran. Xiao Ran knew her act of being deceived couldn’t fool Yang Yi either.
So, they could only cry after turning away.
Yang Yi was wheeled out of the room, with Aaron waiting at the door. He saw the uncontrollable tears welling up in Yang Yi’s eyes.
"I’m very sorry. Truly."
With a trembling voice, Yang Yi said, "Take me back in."
Aaron waved his hand, motioning for everyone to leave. Then he himself wheeled Yang Yi back into his room and gently closed the door.
Yang Yi wept silently. Aaron sighed and said, "If you really want to cry, cry out loud. It’ll help."
Yang Yi didn’t cry loudly. He just let out the suppressed cries of a wounded animal—desperate to stifle the sound.
Even though Xiao Ran didn’t die, the price she paid was far too great.
Paralysis—paralysis from the waist down.
After a long while, Yang Yi suddenly said, "They’ve gone too far!"
Aaron raised an eyebrow. Standing behind Yang Yi, he allowed a faint smile to flicker across his lips before softly replying, "Hmm? What do you mean by that?"
Yang Yi’s voice trembled as he said, "Too much! They’ve gone too far—they dare... they dare treat me like this!"
Aaron said calmly, "And who are ’they’ that you’re referring to?"
Yang Yi took a deep breath and said, "Stop pretending. You’ve been suspicious of me for a while now. Especially after you captured Bonnie, you must’ve figured everything out."
Aaron smiled and said, "Actually, Bonnie is fine. She just spent two days alone at headquarters. I haven’t even met her yet."
Yang Yi was silent for a moment before speaking in a deep, resolute tone: "Cut the nonsense. I’ve made my decision. Yes, I’m a Cleaner."
