Chapter 1200: Chapter 1205: Believe in Me
Bonnie pulled the trigger; Yang Yi didn’t move.
The gunshot rang out, but the bullet flew over Yang Yi’s head.
Anyone with half a brain could see that Bonnie would never actually shoot Yang Yi. Otherwise, what would be the point of all these sacrifices?
Yang Yi lowered his gun and softly said to Bonnie, whose face was twisted with rage, "I have a plan! I have a plan! Don’t worry, trust me. Even if it’s just to make this act more convincing, you can’t die!"
Bonnie snapped angrily, "I can’t commit suicide! You coward! Do you want everyone’s efforts and sacrifices to be for nothing? You should kill me! You should do it with your own hands!"
Yang Yi shook his head.
Bonnie’s tone turned despondent as she said, "I only want to die at your hands. You’re my first... man. I’ve invested my whole heart in you, because it was required for the mission. If I must die, I want to die at your hands. How could you not know what would happen to me if I fell into the Grey-cloaked People’s hands?"
Yang Yi spoke softly, "Trust me. You need to trust me. I won’t let you fall into the hands of the Grey-cloaked People. I understand now. I truly do! Trust me—I really understand now!"
Bonnie ground her teeth and said, "The Queen is dying! The Old Demon is dying! So many of them are dead! And now, you’re telling me you ’understand’? What is it you’ve suddenly understood? Damn you! Do you want me to spill secrets under torture, undoing everyone’s efforts?"
Bonnie’s face was filled with despair. Suddenly, she turned her head to Anton and said urgently, "He’s a coward! You do it! I can’t kill myself, but you still have the strength to pull the trigger, don’t you?"
Anton struggled to lift his hand. Bonnie glared hatefully at Yang Yi before placing the gun in Anton’s hand.
Yang Yi staggered forward just as Anton was receiving the gun, swiping it out of his hand.
"No shooting! No death! A flaw in character—get it?"
Yang Yi first looked at Bonnie, then Anton, and said fervently, "I must have a flaw in my character—don’t you see? Aaron’s test. He doesn’t want a soulless killer; he wants someone with flaws. Understand? It’s fine if you don’t. All you need to do is trust me!"
Yang Yi exhaled slowly and said in a low voice, "All you need to do is trust me. Bonnie, pick up your gun now, and stand by my side to fight."
Yang Yi appeared confident. Anton, somewhat puzzled, thought it over before saying quietly to Bonnie, "Listen to him."
Bonnie sighed heavily, shaking her head, "I really don’t know—I don’t know whether you’ll ruin everything! I... I truly don’t know!"
"Trust me!"
After saying this, Yang Yi walked to the door, his demeanor composed, and said calmly, "Trust me now. Take care of my Queen and Old Demon. I’ll hold the enemy back here and wait for reinforcements."
Realistically, Yang Yi couldn’t defend the place alone. But the Cleaners didn’t truly want to end him, so one way or another, Yang Yi could hold them off.
Soon, a car roared toward them while Yang Yi’s watch beeped incessantly, signaling that the recognition system had confirmed the incoming vehicle belonged to allies, not enemies.
The reinforcements had finally arrived.
To be fair, the CIA was remarkably efficient. This wasn’t the United States; it was Mexico. Within less than an hour, they had assembled a team of dozens to support Yang Yi. Given that the CIA operates as spies, not soldiers, it was extraordinary for them to send this many people for an operation on foreign soil.
Had the circumstances not been exceptional, the CIA would never take such measures.
Such a move constituted a breach of a nation’s sovereignty, so the CIA operatives would, of course, never admit their true identities under any condition. Otherwise, this would turn into an international scandal of immense proportions.
A man who looked like a gang member stormed in—or perhaps he really was one. After all, in Mexico, cartel members often function as the CIA’s unacknowledged assets.
"Where’s the target?"
Yang Yi exhaled feebly, his body sliding down the doorframe until he was seated on the ground. Shaking his head, he replied, "No idea. Unless something goes terribly wrong, they’ve already fled."
The CIA operative disguised as a gang member seemed relieved, though he quickly masked it, growling, "Damn it! Too late!"
Yang Yi said weakly, "Buddy, could you save us first?"
"Get a move on! Somebody, quick! Get them to the hospital! Move, move, move!"
Yang Yi turned to look at Anton, who seemed relatively stable; then he shifted his gaze to Xiao Ran.
Xiao Ran’s complexion was pale and lifeless. Yang Yi couldn’t tell whether she had fainted—or worse. He hadn’t dared to ask.
Though her eyes were closed, Xiao Ran’s face was turned toward Yang Yi.
Wounded and fragile, Xiao Ran lay there, her pallid face exuding an eerie stillness.
Staring at Xiao Ran’s serene expression and colorless lips, a deep sorrow welled up in Yang Yi. He let his handgun slip from his grasp, raised his right hand, covered his eyes, and began to cry—unrestrainedly.
Gut-wrenching sobs.
The rescuers were startled by the sound of Yang Yi’s agonizing cries.
Yang Yi no longer cared about anything. He just wanted to cry—loudly, openly. The shame, the disgrace—none of it mattered. He needed to mourn.
If Xiao Ran was dead, this was the only tribute he could offer her.
Because there would be no chance to grieve for her later.
As Yang Yi wept uncontrollably, two rescuers swiftly lifted Xiao Ran, carrying her past him toward the exit. The man in front murmured gently, "Excuse us, please move."
Yang Yi pulled his legs back, reaching out to gently touch Xiao Ran’s face.
For the first time, Yang Yi extended his hand to touch Xiao Ran’s face. But blood smeared her skin as his hand made contact.
"Get in the car, buddy. You’ve been shot; I need to take care of you first. You’re safe now—you’re safe."
Yang Yi stood up obediently, his face vacant as he glanced at Bonnie and Anton. Anton was being carried away, while Bonnie, visibly anxious, came up beside him.
Suddenly, Yang Yi turned and stared at the man in front of him, speaking forcefully, "Save her—save them! I will make it worth your while in ways you can’t even imagine! Just save her!"
"Of course, we will, buddy—we absolutely will. Relax, okay? Relax."
While comforting Yang Yi, the rescue leader shouted to his team, "Hurry up! Let’s clear this place and get out of here! Quick!"
Bonnie boarded a vehicle with Yang Yi, her nerves fraught with tension. In truth, she was terrified—terrified that Yang Yi’s promises might fall apart.
Yang Yi’s injuries were undoubtedly severe, but he gripped Bonnie’s hand and whispered, "Trust me. It’ll all be fine. Trust me!"
