Chapter 119: Chapter 118: Learn and Apply Immediately

If someone needs help and you lend a hand, that’s joy in helping others.

If someone doesn’t need help, but you insist on making decisions for them, believing it to be assistance, that often counts as meddling—even if it is well-intentioned meddling.

Yang Yi didn’t want to be a meddler, and he wondered if he was overstepping his bounds, especially since he was acting against Zhang Yong’s wishes.

So, when Yang Yi returned, he decided to inquire about this Beast Wayne and the only person he could turn to was Danny.

"Hey, Captain, I’m sorry to call you at this time, but I’ve got something I need to ask you," he said.

"What is it?"

"Do you know of a person named Beast Wayne?"

"Beast, Wayne?"

"Yes."

"Ha, of course I know of him, or rather, I’ve heard of him. He’s not your average Joe; he’s extremely vicious, but he’s already dead."

"Dead? Are you sure?"

"Yeah, he’s dead. Why don’t you ask Zhang Yong? Beast Wayne was one of his guys."

Yang Yi took a breath, and then whispered, "Wait a second, Captain, you’d better start from the beginning. Why do you say Beast Wayne was one of Zhang Yong’s guys, and why do you claim he’s dead?"

Danny whispered back, "Zhang Yong did all sorts of things. Later, he and someone called Trash Dog gathered a crew to engage in all sorts of crimes, crossing boundaries, doing any kind of work as long as there was money involved, and doing it well. You get what I mean? Beast Wayne was one of them."

"I see. Then why do you say he’s dead?"

"About four years ago, something sensational happened in the United States—well, sensational only among certain circles—Trash Dog’s team got wiped out by the FBI, all dead, not a single survivor. There was an intense shootout. They were going to assassinate a high-profile figure but walked into an ambush and were all killed."

"How did Zhang Yong survive?"

"Because Zhang Yong was the fail-safe, so he was the only one who made it out alive. After that, he stopped dealing in major businesses, and in less than a year, he went straight to prison, voluntarily at that. I think he didn’t want to live on the outside alone, someone like him couldn’t find even two reliable roommates if he weren’t in prison. Plus, he no longer wanted to deal with people from his past, so he snuck off to prison alone."

Yang Yi took a breath, and then whispered, "Captain, can I trust you?"

"What do you think?"

Danny’s tone sounded a bit angry, but Yang Yi had no choice, as the matter he was about to discuss wasn’t his own.

"Captain, you must promise that you won’t disclose a single word of what I tell you to anyone, it stays between just the two of us. Can you do that?"

Danny became a bit more serious, then whispered, "Then you better not say it. I don’t like knowing secrets; knowing too much makes it easy to get killed, especially discussing it over the phone. No, don’t say it."

Yang Yi whispered, "It’s about Zhang Yong."

"Er, this, I think I have an idea of what it’s about, go ahead."

"The Beast isn’t dead; he’s staying right here in this prison!"

"What the fuck, what are you saying? I get it, Zhang Yong went in to rescue The Beast, no, that’s not right! What the fuck!"

After cursing under his breath again, Danny said furiously, "Zhang Yong didn’t go in there to save anyone. I get it now, it’s The Beast who betrayed them! Zhang Yong went in to seek revenge, right?"

"Right."

"Oh, shit, fuck! I get it now, it was like this! But why? Why?"

"I don’t know why, but Zhang Yong is indeed here to take revenge on The Beast. The thing is, The Beast is now confined in solitary, constantly shackled, extremely miserable. Zhang Yong feels that letting The Beast live is a better punishment, so he decided to stay here, to watch him all the time!"

Danny took a deep breath, then whispered, "What I mean is, why would The Beast betray others? They were the best of friends. The Beast was cornered with no way out, and it was Zhang Yong who saved him, gave him everything. Why would he betray anyone?"

"I don’t know, Zhang Yong didn’t say, he doesn’t want to talk to me about it, Captain. I want to go and kill The Beast myself, otherwise, Zhang Yong will never leave. He’s in self-exile, willing to sacrifice his own freedom to ensure that The Beast, Wayne, suffers even more."

Danny muttered softly, "This is really a mess..."

"Captain, I want to ask you, do you think I should take out The Beast for Zhang Yong? I’m taking the initiative here, but I can’t stand to see Zhang Yong fall like this."

Danny let out a long sigh, then whispered, "Zhang Yong is the toughest guy I’ve ever met. He doesn’t deserve to spend the rest of his life in prison. Regardless of what The Beast has done, killing him would be enough. Sacrificing oneself is not worth it, Ben. As a friend, sometimes, we have to make choices for our friends. If he’s wrong, we should try to correct him. I support your idea, but there’s a problem, Ben. You can’t kill The Beast, you would just become his prey."

"Captain, I’m very skilled now, and The Beast is locked up in a cage with shackles on."

"You don’t understand, The Beast is not someone you can comprehend. Listen to me, never act rashly. Your best bet is to persuade Zhang Yong, not to act on your own. You truly are no match for The Beast, even if he’s shackled. As long as he can move, you can’t beat him. So think of some other way, at least one that doesn’t require you to make contact to kill him."

After thinking for a moment, Yang Yi said, "I understand. In a while, I might need you to help pay me five hundred thousand US dollars. I’ll contact you then."

After hanging up the phone, Yang Yi pondered for a moment before waving Gweil over and speaking in a deep voice, "What kind of poison isn’t easily detected yet causes very painful death and is incurable?"

Gweil laughed and said, "There are so many, so many."

"Something that can be obtained in prison."

"Oh, that’s gonna be difficult, really difficult. To make poison with stuff you can get in prison? Or to extract the necessary components, it’s all hard because we lack the equipment. But let me think, maybe there is something in the prison that can produce lethal toxicity with just simple mixing."

Sinking into thought, Gweil suddenly looked up and said, "I’ve got it! But it would need to be injected to work, is that okay?"

After thinking, Yang Yi shook his head and replied, "If I could inject him, then I could just beat him to death straight away, so no, injections won’t work. Preferably, it should be something put in food so he’d eat it without noticing, or something that can be fatal just by contact with the skin."

"That kind? We need to observe, to see what there is in the prison we can use. I need to think this through."
