Chapter 118: Chapter 117: Special Monitoring Area

Some people are still alive, but their hearts have already died.

Zhang Yong’s words still echoed in Yang Yi’s mind, vividly clear.

Zhang Yong had told him the story of that killer, but Yang Yi couldn’t understand why a highly successful assassin, particularly wealthy and living a good life, free from physical ailments, would suddenly end his own life while eating breakfast?

Now, Yang Yi still couldn’t figure it out, but he thought he could somewhat understand Zhang Yong’s feelings.

Why Zhang Yong would hide in prison, initially Yang Yi had really thought he was seeking solitude, and although he found it somewhat unbelievable, the world was full of oddities. Perhaps Zhang Yong couldn’t find peace outside and thus hid in prison, keeping his whereabouts unknown to everyone.

Looking at it now, all of that was nonsense. Zhang Yong’s reason for going to prison was simply to kill someone who had once been closely related to him. And the reason he had given up on killing the beast Wayne was just because he felt that Wayne being locked up in prison was a fate worse than death.

Perhaps being alive was indeed a worse fate for the beast Wayne than death, but that was not the key point – the key was to fathom the level of hatred that could make a person willingly give up their freedom to come to prison, just for the ability to watch another person remain incarcerated.

Unless that person’s heart had died, freedom meant nothing to them – nothing had any meaning anymore.

But Yang Yi felt that Zhang Yong shouldn’t end up like this, nor should he continue living this way.

Zhang Yong was the most formidable person Yang Yi had ever met. There was almost nothing he couldn’t do, and his ability to change the subject was exceptionally strong.

The reason why Zhang Yong could always steer the conversation off-topic was because every word he said had tremendous appeal. Each story he told, each experience he shared, was knowledge and a chance for Yang Yi to broaden his horizons. That’s why Yang Yi had his attention captured by Zhang Yong.

Yang Yi just felt that someone as capable as Zhang Yong shouldn’t spend the rest of his life in prison.

Making decisions for others is an annoying matter. Yang Yi didn’t want to be someone detestable or decide someone else’s life, but what Zhang Yong was sacrificing was his own freedom. To sacrifice oneself for the punishment of another – what difference did that make from suicide?

So Yang Yi really wanted to do something, which is why he came to find Owen.

Taking out the beast Wayne for Zhang Yong appeared to be a perfect, permanent solution. If Wayne died, Zhang Yong would naturally have no reason to stay in prison.

Yang Yi indeed thought this way.

"What do you think about one hundred thousand US dollars?"

Yang Yi stated his price directly.

But Owen’s rejection came much faster than he anticipated.

"No! No way. It’s not about the money. You don’t understand at all."

Since Yang Yi was negotiating a deal with Owen, Owen gave up the attitude he held towards prisoners. He came closer to Yang Yi and whispered, "You don’t understand. Every single person in the special ward, I mean, everyone, is under the close watch of the FBI. There are even two people whose reasons for being here I’m not aware of. I can do any business with you, but I won’t risk my career, let alone my life."

Yang Yi sighed and then looked at Owen, speaking in a low voice, "Could you give an example? Because Owen, I can’t imagine what kind of criminals are in there."

Owen was silent for a moment, then he spoke quietly, "A traitor. There’s a traitor in there, someone who sold loads of classified information to foreigners. So, he’s going to spend his entire life in prison, and he can’t die because he possesses a lot of valuable intelligence."

Yang Yi said with some surprise, "A spy? Why would a spy be locked up here?"

Owen laughed, "Spies are usually held in CIA’s own prisons, but you need to understand something, as a spy agency the CIA naturally attracts the attention of other spy agencies, and there is no prison in the world that can’t be broken into, so even the CIA has to secretly detain people here."

Yang Yi murmured, "Really, there are spies detained here too?"

"They’ve been locked up for over a decade, the one who has been here the longest, he was already here before I arrived, now he has been forgotten, but he still needs to be under the strictest surveillance, his handcuffs have not been taken off since the day he came in, can you imagine?"

Sighing, Owen said with a bitter smile, "It’s not that I don’t want to make money, but I really can’t earn this money, the special ward is too tightly guarded, and I have no control over the guards in the special ward."

Yang Yi frowned, speaking softly, "Two hundred thousand dollars, think of a way, there must be a method that won’t get you in danger."

Owen still shook his head, insisting, "No more talk, you can do whatever you want in the high-security section, I’ve already done what you asked of me, but don’t expect me to do the impossible, no matter what you want to do to the water inside, I can’t bear the consequences."

Beast is a nickname, Wayne is probably an alias, it’s very likely not the name he used when he was admitted to prison, so it’s possible that Owen doesn’t know.

Of course, Owen could know who Beast Wayne is, but it’s also possible that he refuses to say.

After a moment of thought, Yang Yi said in a heavy tone, "Five hundred thousand dollars."

Owen began to show signs of distress, five hundred thousand dollars being at least five years of his salary, and even if he had some shady income, five hundred thousand dollars was not an amount he could easily refuse.

"Moreover, I’m not in a hurry, so you don’t have to worry about problems arising during your tenure, buddy, you’re about to be transferred out, aren’t you?"

Owen suddenly looked at Yang Yi, then whispered, "Can you guarantee that?"

"Of course, I can, you don’t want trouble, and I don’t want to die."

Owen pondered for a long time, then whispered, "I’ll be transferred in four months, I’m going to be the warden of a very big prison."

"I know, that’s why I said there’s no rush, we can take action after you have left."

Owen appeared to be in pain, he said quietly, "I knew you must have had some purpose all along, later I figured you were here to kill someone, I don’t care about that, but I didn’t expect your target to be in the special ward."

Owen misunderstood, but this misunderstanding was what Yang Yi needed, so he did not correct Owen’s impression.

Finally, Owen seemed to make up his mind, he looked at Yang Yi and whispered, "You can only make your move half a year after I leave, at least not less than three months, can you promise that?"

"I can, I promise."

Owen’s expression changed again and again, after a long moment of contemplation, he looked at Yang Yi and murmured, "I will find a way to get you in, just wait, wait for the right opportunity."

Yang Yi whispered, "If you think there’s an opportunity, notify me, I will give you the money immediately."

Owen nodded, then said somberly, "Hopefully an opportunity will come, it’s time for you to go back now, wait for my message."
