Chapter 1181 - 1186: Because You Came
Chapter 1181: Chapter 1186: Because You Came
"Captain, this time it’s my fault that you got dragged into this."
Danny looked up, his face full of confusion, and asked Yang Yi, "Who? Why?"
"I don’t know, just a guess for now, nothing confirmed. We all think this is a trap—a trap aimed at us. It has nothing to do with Dark Night Knight, so Dark Night Knight just got implicated."
Danny frowned and said, "There’s gotta be some sort of reason, right?"
Yang Yi replied with a helpless expression, "Honestly, we don’t know the reason yet."
Danny exhaled deeply and said, "Alright, I get it. Looks like we’re the chickens being killed to scare off the monkeys. Doesn’t matter. We’ve caught Bashanov and Shahed already—that’s enough."
Yang Yi sighed and said, "No, Bashanov was just being used as a pawn, but Shahed wasn’t. Shahed’s situation is a bit complicated. To put it simply, the Shahed that lured Bashanov wasn’t the real Shahed."
Danny couldn’t help running his fingers through his hair, then spoke gravely, "Can we track down that Shahed?"
"No, we can’t. Bashanov spilled everything he knows, but it’s almost impossible to find the fake Shahed. Even if we try, it will take a very long time. So... Captain, I’m sorry."
Danny locked eyes with Yang Yi and asked, "Why apologize?"
"Because I dragged you into this mess."
Danny shook his head repeatedly and then said sincerely, "They’re coming after us to draw you out. That means whoever did this knows about my connection with you—so they decided to act this way. And the result? We got trouble, you showed up. So you don’t need to apologize—because you came."
He patted Yang Yi on the shoulder and said calmly, "In this life, you walk through the world. Unless you’re a loner, you’ll need to take a hit for your brothers and friends eventually. The important thing is that you showed up. I’ve got trouble, and you came—that’s enough."
Once again, he gave Yang Yi a firm pat on the shoulder and said with a heavy tone, "When you find out who’s been screwing us over, make sure you let me know."
Yang Yi replied seriously, "Captain, they... they’re strong."
Danny looked at Yang Yi and said evenly, "I know. If we can beat them, we will. If not, we’ll wait for an opportunity to strike later. Though honestly, most of the time you wait and wait, and there’s no chance for revenge. But to tell the truth, revenge isn’t that meaningful. Sacrificing the living for the dead—it’s not worth it, wouldn’t you say?"
"True, but..."
"We still need to know who the enemy is. I can talk big, but I can’t really do that."
After a hearty laugh, Danny extended his hand toward Yang Yi and said, "Let’s have some tea. The past is already the past. Look forward. No matter how many of us die, that’s our Dark Night Knight’s matter. I can bear it. Dark Night Knight can bear it!"
Danny was furious, yet he tried his best not to show it.
A once-famous and untouchable force in London, one nobody dared to provoke, had been reduced to a pawn and bait. And they couldn’t even fight back.
They lost two brothers.
Brothers they’d spent half a lifetime with, fought through blood and bullets alongside. They didn’t die on the battlefield, or in the tough early days in the United Kingdom.
Instead, they died in a conspiracy that wasn’t even aimed at Dark Night Knight.
How could Danny not be angry?
He just refused to let himself look angry. Yang Yi understood, for he felt the same.
Yang Yi carried guilt, but he wouldn’t say more. Like Danny said, someone knew his bond with Danny, knew that Danny had trouble, and knew Yang Yi would give it his all.
If not for that bond, Danny wouldn’t have been in trouble. Such is the helplessness of the world you live in. No choice. Walk this path, and you’ll take hits for your brothers.
Yang Yi picked up the tea cup. He said gravely, "I’ll call you when I find a chance."
Danny nodded, lifting his own cup and smiling, "Yeah, give me a call."
They drained their cups. Yang Yi set his down, then stood up and said, "I’m out. Still a lot to deal with. Bashanov and Shahed—I’m better equipped to handle them than you."
"Alright, they’re yours."
Yang Yi nodded, heading toward the exit. He pushed the door open, and Danny suddenly called out loudly behind him, "Eggy!"
Yang Yi turned to look at Danny.
"Be careful."
"Got it. Take care of yourself too."
Yang Yi closed the door. Kate, who’d been waiting outside the whole time, stood up. Yang Yi walked over and took Kate’s hand, smiling, "Let’s go."
"Is the captain alright?"
"He’s fine. He’s letting it go."
Letting go doesn’t mean being unaffected—it just means accepting reality.
Kate sighed softly, murmuring, "So, you’re leaving today?"
"Not today. I want to confront Aaron, but the question is—what’s the point?"
Yang Yi felt helpless because now he and Aaron were playing a game where both understood the situation perfectly well but pretended otherwise. Breaking the silence would make it impossible to keep up the act.
He wrapped his arm around Kate’s waist and whispered, "Right now, I can only wait. If Aaron truly is behind this, then he’s got the upper hand. I can only wait."
Kate could sense the frustration and helplessness in Yang Yi’s heart, though she didn’t fully grasp the saying.
You walk through the world, helpless to resist.
But how can you act first? Where would you aim your strike? Even if you find Aaron, what’s the next step? Destroying the silent understanding would only destroy the fragile balance they maintained—unless Yang Yi chose to kill Aaron the moment they met.
Yang Yi did have the chance to kill Aaron, but what would that accomplish?
Aaron was high-ranking; he controlled the situation, set the rules. Yang Yi could only play within those rules—until the day Yang Yi himself could set the rules and make others play by them.
Such is life—what you dislike, you endure.
Yang Yi reached the beautiful restaurant’s door, and just then he saw Xiao Feng.
Xiao Feng sat at a table, waved at Yang Yi, and said loudly, "Safe travels. Won’t see you off. Come back to visit when you have time."
Yang Yi nodded, smiling, "Alright. Visit me whenever you’re free."
Xiao Feng shook his head repeatedly, saying, "Sure thing. You’ve made it big now—when you have a chance, you better sprung for something nice."
Yang Yi laughed, "Brother Feng, take care."
Xiao Feng raised his hand, saying, "Take care."
Xiao Feng never stood up, and Yang Yi didn’t walk over to him. Just then, Ah Yao came out from the back holding a plate. He saw Yang Yi and asked with a puzzled expression, "Eh, why not stay and eat before you go? Where’s the captain?"
Yang Yi smiled, "The captain’s in the back drinking tea. He’ll be out soon. I’m heading out first—gonna go take a walk with my girlfriend."
Ah Yao didn’t try to stop Yang Yi. He set the plate down on the table, sat, and waved at Yang Yi, saying, "Spending time with your girlfriend is important! We’re kind of like Kate’s family. Come back and visit when you’ve got time."
Kate beamed and said sweetly, "Definitely."
Yang Yi smiled—he realized that not just Danny, but everyone in Dark Night Knight didn’t blame him. His mood lifted.
He waved energetically and called out, "I’m off! See you around!"
