Chapter 1180 - 1185: Personality
Chapter 1180: Chapter 1185: Personality
Yang Yi took two steps back. What happens next, let Brian handle it. Let the two human scum face the punishment they deserve, and interrogate them thoroughly one more time.
But now, Yang Yi needed to have a serious conversation with Annastasia.
"I can’t figure it out."
After pausing for a moment, Yang Yi took a deep breath and said, "If this was supposed to be a trap aimed at destroying us, then whoever set this trap has already missed the best opportunity. But if it’s not meant to take us all down, why does this trap even exist?"
Annastasia gently shook her head and said, "I don’t know. It’s a conspiracy, but it doesn’t seem like a deadly trap."
Of course, Annastasia didn’t know everything either.
Yang Yi let out a deep sigh and said, "Then, what do you think this is? A test? My current feeling is that the whole thing is a test, but what is it testing me on? Or rather, testing us on? Our ability to gather intelligence? We haven’t really demonstrated that in this incident. Our combat capabilities? Our combat strength hasn’t really been tested either because our opponents are way too weak — whether it’s the Russian Gang or the North African Gang, they’re too weak."
Annastasia continued to ponder, and then suddenly said, "Testing your attitude?"
"My attitude? What’s there to test about my attitude?"
"Your level of importance to Dark Night Knight."
"Danny is my friend. Dark Night Knight saved my life. I don’t think there’s anything to test here — if they ever have trouble, I’d stop at nothing to help them."
"That’s your attitude. But what if someone wants to see it for themselves?"
Yang Yi was stunned for a moment and said, "No way. According to Bashanov, someone started impersonating Shahed to approach him two months ago. And three months ago, someone began laying plans to supposedly test my attitude toward Dark Night Knight? Really?"
Annastasia looked thoughtful and said, "Two months isn’t that long. By then, you had already entered the CIA. If this is the Grey-cloaked People’s test, then Aaron is the executor. If Aaron wanted to test you, what would he test? I think it might be your personality — the things you can’t learn just by observing from the surface. Some things need to be verified."
"What’s the point of that?"
Annastasia glanced at Brian, then said in a low voice, "Before they decided to send me to convert Brian, Black Devil investigated him for nearly two years. They came to a clear conclusion about his personality and decided to send me only after confirming he had character flaws. I’m very valuable, so if there wasn’t a basic assurance of success, I wouldn’t be sent."
Yang Yi thought for a moment and said, "Hmm."
"Sometimes, ability isn’t the most important factor. When assigning someone to carry out an extremely critical task, personality often outweighs ability — like loyalty, for example."
Annastasia exhaled and said in a low voice, "This matter can be declared over now. In other words, your test is over. Aaron has seen whatever he wanted to see."
Yang Yi gripped his hair and murmured, "How did I perform then?"
"How would I know? I’m not Aaron — I don’t know which aspects of your personality he wanted to study. But I believe we’ll find out soon enough."
Yang Yi furrowed his brows and said, "If what I did satisfies Aaron, he’ll use me more. If not, then I’m in danger. He’ll likely want to eliminate me."
"Yes. Let’s analyze it then. Why would Aaron choose the Russian Gang and the North African Gang to test you? First, Dark Night Knight is in London — that’s the geographical factor. Second, the Russian Gang and the North African Gang operate morally heinous criminal trades. So why were these two groups chosen as chess pieces?"
Yang Yi said in disbelief, "To test my morals? That’s impossible. As a spy, would they really test morality? Are they testing whether I’m a good person?"
Annastasia shook her head and said, "I don’t know. But I know that personality is important — what you refer to as ’morals.’ I’ve said it before: personality often matters more than ability."
Yang Yi could only wave his hand as Annastasia said in a grave voice, "If this was a test, then the test is over. Your performance and actions are already irreversible. We don’t yet know whether the results are good or bad. If Aaron wanted someone who only looks at profit, then you’ve disappointed him. If not, then your behavior would please him."
Yang Yi murmured, "I don’t think Aaron is a man filled with a sense of justice — his actions have already made that clear."
"Never make rash judgments about someone. What you see and understand might not be the truth. Human nature is incredibly complex."
"You’re right — I shouldn’t judge Aaron so casually."
Annastasia pondered for a moment before saying, "If this was Aaron’s test, then it means you’ve formally entered the Grey-cloaked People’s radar. They value you — otherwise, they wouldn’t create a test just for you."
Yang Yi felt a surge of anger and murmured, "But the Grey-cloaked People used the wrong method. They shouldn’t have hurt my friends."
"Your friends?"
"Dark Night Knight. Two people from Dark Night Knight died. Maybe, in the eyes of the Grey-cloaked People, Dark Night Knight was just expendable pawns used to test me. But to me, Danny and everyone in Dark Night Knight are my friends. They can’t harm my friends to test me — I can’t accept it!"
After speaking, Yang Yi said in a low voice, "I’m angry because the dead can’t come back."
Annastasia said softly, "That’s your perspective. To Aaron and the Grey-cloaked People, Dark Night Knight and Danny mean nothing."
Yang Yi turned his head to glance at Bashanov and Shahed, then murmured, "What should I do next?"
"Finish handling this matter as you see fit, and then carry on with whatever comes next. Whatever the truth might be in this matter, it’s already over. If our guesses are correct, Aaron will reach out to you very soon."
Yang Yi thought for a moment and said, "Should I tell Danny about our theory — let him know I didn’t help him, but rather implicated him?"
Annastasia shook her head and said, "I’d choose to say nothing, but my advice is that it’s entirely up to you. Tell him if you want to; don’t tell him if you don’t want to — it’s your decision."
Yang Yi exhaled, picked up the phone, and waited for Danny to answer. When the call connected, he said solemnly, "Captain, we’ve captured Shahed and Bashanov. Finish up your side and come find us. As for... forget it — let’s talk in person."
Annastasia smiled and said, "You’ve decided to tell him."
"Yes. I’ve decided to tell the Captain."
After speaking, Yang Yi said in a low voice, "Finish up here, and I need to go see Aaron. I think taking the initiative would be better."
