Chapter 1163: Chapter 1168: Regaining Freedom

Yang Yi walked to the side of the car and said in a low voice to Xiao Feng inside, "I’m going to pick someone up. Wait for me here."

Xiao Feng nodded, placed the gun in his hand on his lap. Yang Yi saw his action, thought for a moment, and still said in a deep voice, "There won’t be any problems. Even if there are, contact my people and don’t act impulsively."

Xiao Feng replied gravely, "Understood."

Yang Yi turned and walked to James’s side, speaking in a low voice, "Please."

James walked in front, with Yang Yi following behind him. At this moment, Gary Keene looked completely relaxed, walking ahead of both Yang Yi and James.

When they were about to enter, there were no obstacles, but upon reaching the area where the high-level offices of Scotland Yard were located, they were finally stopped by security.

"Show your identification or leave."

James didn’t move. Gary took out a certificate and handed it to the officer blocking their path.

The officer looked at Gary Keene with a face full of doubt, then returned the badge to him. The officer then asked in a deep voice, "May I ask who you’re here to see?"

"Your Chief."

Retrieving the ID, Gary Keene said this indifferently and, though he didn’t extend his hand, walked straight past the officer blocking their way.

Yang Yi and James followed closely behind Gary Keene. They arrived at an office door, and Gary Keene knocked on it before directly turning the doorknob to enter.

Inside were three people. A man in a suit was seated behind a desk, talking, while two men in uniforms stood in front of him. When Gary Keene suddenly barged in, the man behind the desk was startled at first, then frowned and said, "Who are you? Get out."

Gary Keene flashed his badge, then said in a deep voice to the two uniformed officers, "MI5. Matters of national security. Non-relevant personnel, please leave first."

The two uniformed officers exchanged glances, each seeing the astonishment in the other’s eyes. At that moment, the man behind the desk said in a deep voice, "You two, step outside for now. Wait outside, and don’t let anyone in without my permission."

Once everyone in the room had left, James stepped forward and said in a deep voice, "Hello, Chief Payne, I am James Wall, head of MI5’s Counter-Spy Division."

Payne stood up and shook hands with James, but quickly sat down again. He clasped his hands, looking directly at James as he said, "Your visit is quite unexpected. May I ask what brings you here?"

James replied indifferently, "We’re investigating a case concerning national security, top secret. We need to take custody of several witnesses right now. Here’s the list."

James pulled a piece of paper from his pocket, unfolded it, and spread it out on the desk before pushing it over. Then, in a deep voice, he said, "These individuals are currently detained. I hope to take them away immediately."

Payne glanced at the list and immediately frowned when he saw the name, saying, "Danny? I know him. He’s a suspect in several serious criminal cases. It’s true his actions endanger national security and interests, but I don’t see how this ties to the Counter-Spy Division."

James gave a faint smile and said, "Apologies, that’s classified. If you have any questions, please consult your superior department."

Payne frowned and said, "This doesn’t comply with protocol. There’s no precedent for this, so I can’t approve your request."

Still composed, James replied, "I’m afraid you don’t have the authority to refuse. This is an authorized order. I’m here to notify you that I’m taking these individuals with me, not to make a request. Please carefully re-read the list and the signatory on the order. Thank you."

James’s unusually tough demeanor was puzzling, but whatever his reasons, it wasn’t something Yang Yi cared about.

Yang Yi only needed to take Danny away. How James and his team achieved this wasn’t his concern.

Payne indeed picked up the list again, glanced at it twice more, and after some brief thought, he nodded and said, "Once your team has completed its investigation of the suspects, I expect them to be returned."

Without hesitation, James replied, "A new order will arrive soon. These individuals will no longer be considered suspects."

Payne looked at James again, placed a hand on the phone, and said in a deep voice, "I need to confirm this."

"Please."

James remained calm as Payne dialed a number. After a brief conversation, Payne quickly hung up the phone.

"You may take them. I’ll sign the release order right now."

Payne appeared a bit angry, which was understandable. After all, no one would be happy about two uninvited individuals suddenly barging in to take custody of several suspects under investigation.

But Scotland Yard had no authority over MI5. And though MI5 ostensibly had no jurisdiction over Scotland Yard either, it was clear their hierarchy was higher.

Higher hierarchy meant they received orders from levels higher than Payne could refuse.

Payne quickly signed a release order. Once he finished, he slid the document over to James and said, "You should put your signature on this as well."

"No, I don’t need to."

Smiling as he took the release order, James stood up, smiled at Payne, and said, "May we take them now?"

Payne picked up the phone, made another brief call, then hung up and said to James in a serious tone, "Yes, you may take them. I’ll arrange for someone to escort you. I won’t be going with you."

"Thank you for your cooperation and understanding."

James turned and left. Gary Keene and Yang Yi immediately followed him out of Payne’s office.

The officer who received the order glanced at it briefly and then said to James, "Please wait here for a moment."

Soon, Danny, clad in handcuffs and shackles, was escorted by two officers to the other side of the iron bars. One officer removed his restraints and opened the door.

Stepping out slowly, Danny had clearly spotted Yang Yi long ago, but he showed no sign of acknowledgment.

Yang Yi greeted him with a smile, "Hello, Captain. Long time no see."

Danny nodded but remained serious and entirely silent.

Several others still hadn’t been brought over. Yang Yi asked Danny, "Captain, do you want to wait here for the other brothers, or shall we step out for some fresh air first?"

Danny frowned and said, "Of course, we’ll wait. Um, who are these two?"

Neither Gary Keene nor James showed any intention of responding. In perfect sync, they turned their heads to the side.

"Two friends, Captain. The brothers will be out soon. Let’s just wait here for now."

The others were indeed brought over one after another. Their restraints were promptly removed, and though they were still within the confines of the detention area, Danny and the others were effectively free.
