Spy-x-War Showdown
Chapter 1144 - 1149: Unfair

Chapter 1144: Chapter 1149: Unfair

Plunging headlong, he listened to the whooshing sound of the wind and watched the rooftop rapidly enlarge in front of his eyes, Anton spread his arms to adjust his posture.

Because he needed to land on the rooftop, Anton’s parachuting altitude couldn’t be too high. A high jump with a low opening was impossible; a low jump with a low opening was the only choice.

Only when he was seventy to eighty meters from the rooftop did Anton finally pull open his parachute, and then his body jerked heavily, creating a sensation of being suspended in mid-air.

Generally speaking, the limit for low-altitude parachute deployment is one hundred meters from the ground, but Anton clearly didn’t think so.

If he were to fall vertically, Anton would land on the ground, definitely without life-threatening danger, but the mission would certainly be a failure. However, now there was wind, and with the aid of the wind’s force, Anton should land right in the middle of the rooftop.

The wind was not very strong, and the parachuting altitude was very low, so although low-altitude parachuting was dangerous, as long as Anton executed his movements well upon landing, the impact force would not cause him any harm.

The distance was closing fast, Anton was already above the rooftop, and as long as there were no special changes, this would be a perfect example of a low jump and low opening ultimate parachuting.

However, since there are special circumstances, it means that anything can happen during parachuting.

With the current wind direction, Anton would land on the ground, but the very situation he feared most suddenly occurred.

The wind direction changed abruptly, and its force greatly increased. Initially, it was a northeast wind, but Anton suddenly sensed his parachute being pushed by a wind from the opposite direction.

The wind shifted from northeast to a westerly wind in an instant, and the wind force was extremely strong, at least a force seven.

The most terrifying turbulence appeared, a chaotic wind that easily occurs among urban skyscrapers.

If Anton’s height were higher, this wind wouldn’t have been a problem. If Anton’s height were lower, another ten meters lower, he could have landed on the ground before his parachute was blown away by the strong wind.

Unfortunately, Anton encountered a turbulent and downdraft wind, which completely wrapped his parachute, causing Anton to rapidly fly backwards for a moment before the parachute immediately lost its function, and Anton started to plummet.

"You shouldn’t have sung..."

Anton hardly had time to feel fear; his only thought was that he shouldn’t have sung. Although he is still a firm materialist, he does indeed recognize the role of luck.

It’s over; this time, it’s truly over.

Watching the wall rim flash by in front of him, Anton instinctively reached out to grab it, but of course, it was meaningless.

But accompanied by another heavy jolt, Anton’s body was once again suspended mid-air.

Anton looked down and saw the street below. He slightly shifted his body, saw the glass curtain wall, looked up, and saw a lightning rod that had caught his parachute.

The parachute got caught on the lightning rod, the lightning rod pierced the parachute, yet it was able to bear Anton’s weight.

A stroke of luck amidst the unfortunate, Anton’s luck was ultimately not too bad; perhaps it was because he had sung that he had such good luck.

Quickly changing his thoughts, Anton began trying to grasp the parachute cords to climb up. This was difficult, but not a problem for him. Just as he exerted a little force, he felt his body sink downwards again.

Anton immediately dared not move a muscle.

"Don’t move! Absolutely don’t move!"

Yang Yi shouted twice into the walkie-talkie, then urgently said: "It’s just hanging by a thread, don’t move around anymore."

Anton’s body pressed against the wall, he looked down, from the height of fifty floors, approximately two hundred meters from the ground. At this height, he could parachute down to the ground if he deployed his parachute.

The main parachute was caught, but the reserve parachute was still usable, and Anton was also wearing a parachute on his chest, which was meant to be used to evacuate after completing the mission.

But the problem was that Anton couldn’t cut the parachute cord and then open the reserve parachute to escape. The reason was simple: because he was against the wall, he couldn’t deploy the parachute at all. If he tried to open the parachute while pressed against the wall, it would cause incomplete deployment and tangle the reserve parachute, ultimately causing him to fall to his death.

How embarrassing, he couldn’t go up, nor could he go down. As one of the world’s most skilled parachutists, he had ended up in this situation.

Anton felt his face turning red, not because of the perilous situation, but because he felt he had disgraced himself, especially in front of Yang Yi, particularly after just having shown off to Yang Yi.

So embarrassing...

While Anton was contemplating how to escape this predicament, he heard Yang Yi speak softly, "Wait for me, I’m going to parachute down to rescue you."

"Parachute? No! You should rappel or be lowered by the aircraft, it’s better to cancel the mission than to parachute, I couldn’t, you think... Fuck!"

"There’s a first time for everything!"

Yang Yi wanted to shout something as he jumped out, but standing on the airplane door, he ultimately covered his mouth and leaped out.

Yang Yi truly didn’t want to give up on this mission, so he chose a landing method he wasn’t very proficient in.

In the midst of his descent, Yang Yi still heard Anton curse softly, "Fuck! You bastard, the queen will hate me for this, Kate will hate me too, do you want to be shoveled up by the queen?"

Yang Yi spread his arms, and after a bit of a descent, he finally pulled his parachute open.

Anton deployed his parachute at eighty meters, while Yang Yi deployed at about one hundred fifty meters. He couldn’t judge the distance as precisely as Anton, especially while falling at high speed. Even though the altimeter could tell him his falling speed and altitude, he really couldn’t move his gaze from the rapidly approaching rooftop to check his watch.

So Yang Yi deployed his parachute early, but it was okay, he opened the parachute, and then safely and skillfully landed on the rooftop.

Anton could no longer see Yang Yi. He felt desperate, not because he was worried about falling to his death, but because he thought Yang Yi had landed on the other side, or worse, had died in the fall.

Just when Anton decided he might as well climb up, even if it completely tore the parachute, he heard someone from above say, "Hey buddy, you failed, but I succeeded."

Anton saw Yang Yi.

By winding the non-strained part of the parachute around the lightning rod a couple of times, Anton secured a stable support point. Now he could pull himself up using the rope.

But Anton really wanted to cut the parachute cord.

"If you’re not coming up, do you want me to come down and get you?"

Hearing Yang Yi’s voice again, a bitterly frustrated Anton sighed, grabbed the rope, and alternately started climbing.

Anton had bad luck, encountering turbulent air, and he couldn’t adjust his parachute’s attitude in the turbulent air, so he failed, whereas Yang Yi, who had good luck, simply jumped down and succeeded.

Life is like that, incredibly unfair.
