Chapter 1107: Chapter 1112: Come on, let’s hurt each other.
Nicholas felt helpless. He was ready to surrender now, but the supposed to be the smoothest part had encountered a problem.
Since when could an assassin make decisions for their employer?
"This isn’t right, since when could an assassin make decisions for their employer?"
In response to Nicholas’s question, Cupid smiled apologetically and said, "I didn’t make the decision for you. But there’s nothing in our agreement about canceling this stipulation, so I didn’t breach our contract."
Nicholas spread his arms and said somberly, "Please, you put me in an awkward position. I can’t go on like this; otherwise, I will die. Do you think putting your employer into such an awkward position has no impact on your reputation of never missing a target?"
After pondering for a moment, Cupid replied quietly, "I know what you’re thinking, but I can help you kill Sea God."
"But you can’t guarantee when you will kill him. I might die before that. Is there a difference whether the task is forcibly canceled because of my death or if I choose to cancel it voluntarily?"
Cupid stated indifferently, "There’s a difference. If you die, you can’t make the final payment, and the mission naturally ends. That’s the rule of the trade. I don’t want to break it. But if you cancel the task, it means I admit defeat voluntarily, which I can’t accept because I really want to kill Sea God."
Nicholas waved his hand and said, "Do you really want to kill me, your employer? If you don’t agree, I’ll have no choice but to try and kill you. I know I might die, but I can’t just do nothing. I can’t deal with Sea God, so I have to choose you, who’s right in front of me now. You know, although I’m afraid you indeed can kill me, I have to try."
Cupid stated indifferently, "Perhaps you should consider a third option, which is to kill Sea God."
Nicholas chuckled and responded, "Of course, that would be the best option. But the problem is, you didn’t succeed, nor did I. If this stalemate persists, I’ll miss my last chance to surrender. I can’t wait until Big Ivan, the CIA, and Sea God are all ready to come after me to surrender. It’d be too late."
Cupid continued indifferently, "Sea God wants to kill me."
"Mmm, ah, of course he wants to kill you."
"The first miss was because someone in your ranks had an issue. Someone leaked my existence, allowing Sea God to set a trap for me."
"Why do you say it was someone on my end that had an issue?"
"Hear me out. During the second failure, it was again a trap set by Sea God. But what I don’t understand is how he saw through my disguise. He shouldn’t have. No one should be able to see through my disguises."
"Hmm, you are quite confident, but..."
"Hear me out."
For the first time, Cupid interrupted Nicholas and continued calmly, "Sea God wants to kill me, and he really wants to kill me, just as I very much want to kill him. I can see from his eyes how much he longs to kill me because he’s afraid of me. Therefore, he must kill me."
Nicholas spread his hands and asked, "But what does that have to do with my situation?"
Cupid whispered, "I am willing to use myself as bait to lure Sea God out. He has set two traps for me. This time, I want to set one for him."
Nicholas’s eyes suddenly widened.
Cupid indifferently said, "Sea God and I are so alike that I’m certain he will kill me, at all costs, just as long as he can find and locate me. Because his fear of me is as deep as my fear of him."
"Fear?"
"Yes, fear. He’s afraid of me, and I’m afraid of him because we both know what the other wants to do, yet neither knows how the other will do it."
Nicholas fell into deep thought.
Cupid continued indifferently, "Sea God has gone into hiding. He won’t show himself easily, but... I believe he will definitely use himself as bait to lure you out and, when you think you have the chance to kill him, instead deliver a fatal blow to you."
Nicholas’s expression grew complex as he whispered, "If that’s the case, why can’t I take the opportunity to kill him?"
"He won’t give you the chance. This person will use the most dangerous method to achieve his purpose, but he will also ensure his own safety. At the very least, he will leave himself a way out. When you think you can kill him, that will be the perfect opportunity for him to kill you."
"Are you very familiar with Sea God?"
"I wouldn’t say I know him very well, but I know what he would do."
Rubbing his chin, Nicholas mused, "If that’s the case, how do you plan to lure him out?"
"When I appear, he will definitely try to kill me. I am a bigger threat to him than you are. So when he comes to draw you out, I will also make him leave his own protection, at least. I can disrupt his plans and give you the chance to kill him."
Visibly doubtful, Nicholas said, "You truly plan to use yourself as bait? And are you sure that Sea God’s primary target will be you and not me?"
Cupid nodded emphatically, "I’m very sure. Sometimes in life, you have to take risks. Now, you can choose whether to surrender or to take a final stand."
Nicholas thought for a long time, and Cupid, not in a rush, just watched Nicholas silently without looking directly into his eyes.
"Life indeed requires taking risks and often facing trials. Surrender, and I might not keep everything. But a final stand might indeed win everything. So, I bet on you to win."
Having decided to take a gamble, Nicholas’s expression became resolute as he said solemnly, "What’s your plan?"
Cupid spoke in a deep voice, "It’s time for you to show up."
"That seems like using me as bait, doesn’t it?"
Cupid shook his head, "No, when you show up, Sea God will definitely appear as well, and he’ll be near you. Do you believe that?"
"Not quite."
Nicholas said he didn’t believe it, but Cupid persisted, "He will show up near you, give you the opportunity to kill him, but at that moment, it’ll be his chance to kill you. The way your men fought today has already indicated he brought many snipers with him, correct?"
"Yes, several snipers, very deadly ones."
Cupid exhaled lightly and said, "You appear, Sea God appears, then I choose the right moment to appear. Trust me, as long as you don’t give Sea God a chance to shoot you, the moment Sea God spots me, he will shoot at me first. I hope you won’t miss this opportunity. You can kill him, right?"
Still somewhat unsure, Nicholas asked, "You really plan to do this? You might die, you’re okay with that? Also, how do you plan to make Sea God discover you?"
Cupid spoke earnestly, "I can treat everything as a tool to complete a mission, including my life. As for your second question, Sea God will find me. I don’t know how he will, but he will find me."
