Chapter 1106: Chapter 1111: Give Up

Nicholas remained calm, he had always been calm.

Nicholas knew that he had been forsaken; he had known for a long time that if Deyo was a dog of the CIA, then he was a dog meant to replace Deyo. But now, his master no longer wanted to keep him.

If he didn’t even have that much self-awareness, Nicholas wouldn’t have been able to reach his current position.

It seemed like there was no chance for redemption, but Nicholas still refused to give up.

Having climbed from a nobody to his current status, Nicholas could not possibly do nothing and hand over his life and wealth to others.

Even the CIA couldn’t take everything from him at will.

Nicholas certainly knew that he couldn’t turn around and bite his own master, but he also knew that if he was the strongest and most obedient dog guarding the master’s yard, then there was no reason for the master to replace him.

How to become the strongest dog? Simple, just kill all the other dogs that have the ability to challenge him.

The focus is on being the strongest, not the most obedient. If the CIA wanted an obedient dog rather than a strong one, then there would be no point in supporting him.

So, Yang Yi had to die.

When Nicholas learned of the name Yang Yi from his informants within the CIA, he quickly saw this young man as his number one enemy.

Not because Yang Yi was so strong, not because Yang Yi was so formidable, but because Yang Yi had won his master’s favor.

Without wanting to anger his master, Nicholas chose what seemed to be the safest method, which was to find a hitman to silently eliminate his biggest competitor.

Nicholas paid the highest price he could afford, but the hitman he found failed.

This greatly dissatisfied and angered Nicholas because the hitman he hired was one of the most well-known lately, a hitman who had never failed, the most expensive assassin, and the best he could find.

But the result was a failure.

Nicholas had no doubt that his actions had been leaked, the CIA must have planted someone to monitor him closely, a basic means to ensure he did not get out of control.

But the hitman had failed, and yet, he was not dead; thus, Nicholas knew that the CIA had not completely given up on him either.

Nicholas knew he had to eliminate his opponent as quickly as possible; he could no longer depend on hitmen; he had to deal a fatal blow to his enemy by any means necessary.

At the same time, he also had to be prepared for being truly abandoned.

Nicholas was ready with contingencies, never committing completely to one path, nor relying entirely on one person. This was the experience that led to his success over the years, as well as his principle of action.

So Nicholas was always ready to flee into the jungle, but he also prepared for a decisive battle to the death with Yang Yi.

One goal, two preparations, never forgetting to have an escape plan; such was Nicholas’s style and creed.

Now, it seemed like the time to make a choice had come.

Nicholas felt truly terrible because one failure after another made it impossible for him to maintain an optimistic attitude anymore.

It was already his limit to persuade the CIA to remain neutral in his competition with Yang Yi, which had cost Nicholas an extreme effort, and the information about Yang Yi that the CIA had revealed to him came at a cost enough to cause him distress.

But the result was yet another failure.

Nicholas regretted, he regretted acting too hastily, he should have waited until he had amassed enough power to deal Yang Yi a fatal blow.

But Nicholas simply couldn’t understand, although he had indeed been a bit hasty to take action immediately after receiving the news about Yang Yi, he had made ample preparations for this operation, with a hundred people waiting in Sao Paulo. But how did it fail?

Leading all the men still able to fight to Sao Paulo was Nicholas’s decision to go all out, either he would die, or he would kill Yang Yi.

However, upon arriving in Sao Paulo and realizing that he had completely lost track of Yang Yi, Nicholas finally understood it was time to give up.

Giving up meant not just fleeing into the jungle, and it wasn’t a temporary retreat.

To give up was to no longer be an enemy to Yang Yi and to hand over everything he possessed, although hard to accept, it was indeed time to face reality.

Not being able to kill Yang Yi immediately meant utter failure, and to have a dignified ending, one had to know when to stop.

If he was to cease, he must adopt the appropriate attitude for seeking peace.

This was the first time Nicholas met face-to-face with the assassins he had hired, but this meeting with Cupid wasn’t to urge him to kill Yang Yi quickly, rather, it was to ask him to abandon the mission.

Life is indeed very strange.

"Hello, Cupid, I didn’t expect to actually be able to meet you," Nicholas said, extending his hand to an old man sitting opposite him. But the old man did not reach out his hand and just sat there calmly, saying, "Cupid is a codename others gave me; I personally don’t like it. If it’s a longtime client, I would prefer they call me Bobby."

"Bobby?"

"Yes, my favorite dog was named Bobby. To commemorate it, my moniker is Bobby," he said serenely before the old man in front of Nicholas gently added, "So, what did you want to discuss in meeting me?"

Nicholas hesitated for a moment before saying, "Nothing much, I just wanted to notify you that your mission is over, it’s been canceled."

Cupid showed no emotion, and Nicholas knew that the old man in front of him was not appearing under his true identity, so he wasn’t particularly concerned about Cupid’s expression.

"The mission is canceled?"

Nicholas sighed and said, "Yes, the mission is canceled. Don’t worry, I’ll pay you the remaining amount, I will give it to you immediately, but there’s no need to assassinate the target anymore."

Cupid pondered for a moment, then spoke softly, "You’ve decided to give up, you want to surrender?"

"Though I’m reluctant to put it that way, I must admit, yes, that’s the case, I have to give up."

Cupid was silent for a moment, and then he shook his head, saying, "You can give up, but I will not. It’s no longer about money now, so I must complete this task."

Nicholas furrowed his brows and then suddenly asked, "So how can you be convinced to abandon the mission?"

"The target is dead, or the employer, which is you, is dead, then the mission will naturally come to an end."

"I’m not dead, but I’ve decided to give up, and that’s not enough?"

"Normally it would be, but not this time."

Nicholas rubbed his mouth with his hand, then said with a troubled look, "Then let me ask a question, just out of curiosity, and not because I plan to harm you: what if you die? Will the mission continue if you’re dead?"

Finally, Cupid laughed and said, "If I die, of course the mission can end, but the problem is, I won’t die, and those who wish for my death often die a bit quicker themselves."
