Spy-x-War Showdown -
Chapter 1084 - 1089: Utilizing Value
Chapter 1084: Chapter 1089: Utilizing Value
Yang Yi is not the most successful spy, nor the most formidable one, but he is definitely one of the most successful multifaceted spies because he possesses resources that all spies envy.
Think about it, Yang Yi doesn’t really have any remarkable achievements to show for, or put another way, his performance doesn’t match up to his current identity and status. However, he is able to move with ease among the several largest intelligence agencies in the world.
Is this luck? No, Yang Yi is able to do this simply because he is valuable to use. Everyone wants to get some benefits from him when dealing with Yang Yi, and in order to get those benefits, they are willing to first offer some to Yang Yi.
As you can see, in this world, having the value to be used by others is so important. Even if Yang Yi becomes someone utterly useless, he can still be the favorite in the eyes of various intelligence agencies. Why? Because he already possesses enough resources to exchange with others.
With this understanding, it’s clear why Yang Yi can act not like a subordinate when dealing with Aaron.
"Boss, I’m sorry to call you so soon, but I really need support."
Yang Yi didn’t wait long before calling Aaron, and Aaron was somewhat curiously saying: "Speak."
"I need manpower to protect me. I need experts skilled in VIP protection, not just bodyguards, but the kind that is adept at counterattacking."
Aaron laughed: "Is your security threatened?"
"Yes, the assassin sent by Nicholas is in my vicinity, and I want to drag him out and kill him!"
There’s nothing to hide about this, so Yang Yi spoke very frankly. Aaron pondered for a moment and then said, "A professional protector, no problem, but the expert you want needs to be summoned from within our country, what kind of protection do you need?"
"Covert protection, not to be discovered by anyone, ready to strike decisively when needed."
"For your level, arranging a large number of security personnel for you isn’t quite appropriate, and allocating real experts to protect you means it can’t be for too long."
"A week at most, about ten people should suffice."
Aaron thought for a moment, then he said in a deep voice: "Tell me your location. Within twenty-four hours, all personnel will be in place. I will give you a special security team; the team leader will contact you after arrival. You can discuss with him how to proceed. Is there anything else?"
Yang Yi expressed his gratitude: "That’s all, thank you for your support, Boss."
"As it should be, goodbye."
Aaron hung up the phone, and Yang Yi smiled at Bonnie and said: "Problem solved, Aaron will send people to protect me. Are you sure you don’t need to inform anyone about my situation?"
Bonnie calmly said: "Our principle is to never actively interfere with any actions of the client, right?"
"Am I just a client?"
"Our principle also doesn’t interfere with any actions of collaborators, unless we believe the collaborator might harm the organization."
Yang Yi gestured dismissively, saying: "As if I didn’t say anything."
The atmosphere was a bit awkward. Just as Yang Yi was trying to find a topic to ease the tension, his phone rang.
Yang Yi answered the call, then he heard a woman’s somewhat nervous voice saying, "Hello, am I disturbing you?"
Yang Yi recalled for a moment, then he recognized who the voice belonged to, so he immediately responded with a very happy tone: "Sophie, it’s really great that you called me. I am very happy to receive your call, so how could you possibly be disturbing me?"
At that moment, Yang Yi gestured to Bonnie to speak up and make some noise, but Bonnie just spread her hands with a puzzled look toward Yang Yi.
Yang Yi covered the mouthpiece and whispered: "Talk, louder, chase this woman away."
Immediately, Bonnie said loudly: "Who’s calling you? Are you going out to find other women again?"
Yang Yi quickly said: "Sorry, I have to hang up. This is your number, right? I’ll call you back later."
After hanging up casually, Yang Yi sighed with relief and said: "Seems we still need some time to adjust to each other."
Bonnie raised an eyebrow with an unconcerned look: "Oh, I was worried I had ruined something good for you."
Yang Yi scoffed: "Do you think I’m stupid? Cupid is waiting outside to finish me off, this is not the time to go looking for other women to fool around! Even if it’s crafting a weakness, I shouldn’t be looking to get killed like this. Oh, what do you mean I’m going out to fool around with other women? When have I ever messed around with anyone?"
Bonnie gave a faint smile; she seemed uninterested in discussing this topic with Yang Yi. Just then, Yang Yi’s phone rang again.
Yang Yi answered the call, and then he spoke with a very gentle voice: "Hi, dear, I was just about to call you."
Yang Yi had to be gentle, had to speak like this, because the caller was Petra.
Bonnie turned her head away with disdain, and Yang Yi felt a bit embarrassed but he didn’t have the heart to send Bonnie away either.
Petra said in a low voice: "You haven’t called me today, I’m really worried about you."
"I’m fine, just a bit busy today, well, you know, I have to consider my own safety, so I had to reduce contact with the outside world, what have you been doing today..."
Yang Yi chatted with Petra for about ten minutes before he finally managed to hang up the phone.
After ending the call, Yang Yi gestured to Bonnie: "Can’t help it, for the mission..."
The phone rang inappropriately again, Yang Yi answered again, and unfortunately, it was another call from a clerk he had spoken with during the day.
As if planned, call after call came in, and without exception, it was all from women.
Some things get easier with habit, particularly when there’s an excuse, and right now, Yang Yi was most thankful that Kate wasn’t by his side.
Finally, the phone stopped ringing. Yang Yi turned to Bonnie and said: "I... have nothing to say. Let’s think about where to sleep tonight. There’s only one large bed here. Well, I would offer to sleep on the floor, but I’m injured, and it would seem hypocritical to say that. So would you mind sleeping on the floor?"
Bonnie looked at Yang Yi and said: "Why, you don’t plan to take advantage of me?"
Yang Yi replied somewhat awkwardly: "I am not that kind of person."
Bonnie said indifferently: "Oh, what kind of person are you then?"
Yang Yi was a bit angry and embarrassed; he waved his hand and said: "Anyway, not the kind you’re thinking of, everything I do is for the mission, it’s for the mission."
Bonnie’s expression grew even colder; she turned her back to Yang Yi, and after turning away, she said indifferently: "I haven’t had dinner yet, so I’m waiting for room service to deliver my meal."
