Chapter 1059: Chapter 1064: Taking the Initiative to Attack

These past days, Yang Yizhen truly hadn’t felt the presence of any troublesome people around him. In other words, he hadn’t detected any dangers at all.

If an assassin had been following him all this time, then it could only mean that the assassin was exceptionally good at hiding.

As the saying goes, "it’s easy to dodge an overt spear, but hard to guard against a hidden arrow." Yang Yi was not afraid of someone brandishing a gun and trying to kill him, but an invisible and intangible assassin lurking around was the hardest to defend against.

Aaron had known about the assassin all along but didn’t say anything. Now that he did, Yang Yi even had to thank him.

Aaron just smiled, and then he said to Yang Yi, "Do this job well, and try to finish the task quickly, so you can move on to the next one. I’m short-staffed now, short of good hands."

Had he finally gained Aaron’s initial trust? Yang Yi was not too confident about it and said softly, "Ferguson has done a good job, and so has Reggie. Once this task is over, do you plan to keep them with me or assign someone else?"

Reggie was Yang Yi’s chosen assistant, but Ferguson was Aaron’s eyes and ears. So Yang Yi had to ask if Aaron wanted to replace someone to keep an eye on him.

Aaron thought for a moment and said, "Ferguson has his tasks to attend to; since you’re almost done with your business, let Ferguson come back. As for Reggie, he was your choice, you decide how to handle him."

Yang Yi was indeed a bit surprised; Aaron was quite generous in his actions, seemingly giving him complete freedom and control.

Having Ferguson around was indeed a hindrance, not trustworthy and not someone you could send far away. If Aaron really let him have free rein, that would be extraordinarily convenient.

But could this be a test?

"Chief, I could use an assistant, though."

Aaron smiled and said, "You mentioned Reggie was doing well, let him try for now. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll arrange someone else for you."

Yang Yi did not hesitate any further and said with a deep voice, "Thank you, Chief. I’ll take my leave now. Uh, I think I need to apply for a gun to carry with me."

Aaron laughed and said, "You’re not used to carrying a gun with you? Although I think carrying a gun is not very useful, you are of course allowed to carry one if you wish. Go ahead."

Indeed, Yang Yi also felt that carrying a gun was of little use, but knowing that an assassin was targeting him, having a gun would be somewhat helpful.

Should he meet with Walter? Without giving it much thought, Yang Yi dismissed the idea. He had made no progress, and meeting Walter wouldn’t be meaningful.

After seeing Ferguson and Reggie, Yang Yi reached out to Ferguson and said, "Ferguson, your task is over. The chief wants you to go back and continue with your original task."

Ferguson was slightly surprised. He shook hands with Yang Yi and said sternly, "It was a pleasure working with you. Hope we can collaborate again in the future."

"Thank you for your help, and let’s collaborate again sometime."

Ferguson didn’t say much. He just shook hands with Yang Yi, patted Reggie on the shoulder, and left straight for Aaron’s office.

Reggie was surprised and said, "That’s it... we’re dispersing?"

"Yeah, you’ll have to keep following me, but Ferguson has his tasks. Maybe we’ll work together again in the future, but for now, we’ve got our own things to do."

Yang Yi wouldn’t feel any emotion about Ferguson’s departure since he was just Aaron’s spy, but since Reggie had spent these days with Ferguson, the sudden breakup was somewhat hard to let go of.

Reggie and I went to get a couple of guns. Having a gun on you does make you feel a lot more secure, although Yang Yi was well aware that a gun was practically useless against an assassin because at the moment the assassin made their move, Yang Yi wouldn’t have a chance to draw his weapon.

When the flight arrived in New York and it was dark again, Yang Yi sent Reggie away and, of course, the first thing he did was to look for Anton.

"An assassin?"

Anton seemed just as surprised because he had been unable to detect any anomalies these past few days, just like Yang Yi.

Anton looked particularly stern. He stood up, walked to the window and drew the curtains before turning to face Yang Yi and saying, "Are you sure there’s an assassin, and that this assassin has always been near you?"

Yang Yi spread his hands and said, "Aaron told me. The assassin was hired by Nicholas, also, Aaron said this assassin is pretty impressive."

"A formidable assassin!"

"Yes."

Anton sighed, then hesitated for a long time before finally speaking in a deep voice, "Call people!"

"Call people? Is it necessary?"

Anton shook his head and said, "I’m not confident that I can protect you on my own. Our opponent is an assassin, and assassins are the hardest to guard against. You’re human, I’m human too, and humans get tired. The two of us can’t guarantee to always maintain a high enough level of vigilance."

"So... call people from the Magic Box Squadron?"

Before Anton could respond, Yang Yi shook his head and said, "No, Brian’s people absolutely can’t come to the United States now. So how about calling Zhang Yong over?"

Anton said coldly, "Zhang Yong is a warrior, not a bodyguard."

Yang Yi sighed and asked, "How serious do you think this is?"

"A formidable assassin. You don’t know how he’s going to end your life. Shooting? If he hides and takes a potshot, it will be hard for us to guard against. But what I’m more worried about is if a patient assassin, a super expert at disguising, would be the toughest to deal with. Unless you find him, he will always have an opportunity."

Yang Yi said in a firm voice, "We can’t just keep defending and wait for him to make a move. We need to find this assassin!"

Anton pondered for a moment and then said, "It’s difficult. As long as he doesn’t strike, you will have a hard time finding him. But taking the initiative is indeed the best solution."

Yang Yi smiled and said, "I’m confident I can root him out. In fact, I’m really good at dealing with people who hide. It’s just that I’m sure to be exhausted, and it’s going to waste a lot of brain cells."

Always courageous and bold, Anton was now even more cautious than Yang Yi, and he said in a low voice, "Just the two of us won’t do, we still need to call for help."

"Why are you being so cautious? This isn’t your style."

Anton sighed and said, "We’ve been in New York for many days now. If according to your judgment, Nicholas and his associates have started plotting against you with Aaron’s tacit consent, then the assassin should already be here. During these days, there were many times you went out alone, but no one attacked you. We haven’t even noticed any danger, what does that tell us? It tells us that the assassin is extremely cautious. I’m not afraid of brave and reckless assassins, I’m afraid of calm and cautious assassins."

"But if we call for people, there’s a chance the assassin will find out, and it’ll be even harder to catch him."

After saying that, Yang Yi said in a low voice, "Tomorrow, I’ll wear a bulletproof vest and create an opportunity for the assassin to take me out. As long as he dares to make a move, we’ll take the chance to take him down!"

Anton replied indifferently, "Not tomorrow, not later, but now. Starting now, you need to be ready to be assassinated at any time."
