Chapter 1058: Chapter 1063: Unreasonable Explanation

CIA headquarters, Yang Yi returned with Ferguson and Reggie, but Aaron only met with Yang Yi alone.

"Is the mission completed? That was quick."

Aaron seemed quite pleased, smiling broadly.

Yang Yi smiled and said, "Yes, nearly complete. Petra has become my girlfriend, Oscar Campbell has agreed to annul the engagement. He might need some time to observe, but Petra and Carlson’s engagement can no longer be maintained in any case."

Aaron spread his hands, "That means the mission isn’t entirely completed, so you shouldn’t have come back so early."

Yang Yi was silent for a moment, then decided to speak frankly.

"Boss, I came back for another reason. I have a question. If I don’t get an answer, I think I won’t be able to continue working."

"Oh, go ahead."

Yang Yi said indifferently, "I met a woman named Bonnie. She’s a call girl, but I quite like her because she’s pretty, has a good figure, and large breasts."

"That’s normal for a young man. I have no problem with that since I never interfere with my subordinates’ private lives."

Yang Yi lightly said, "But why are there CIA people tracking her, monitoring her? I originally thought someone was unsure about her and wanted to check her background, but why did I find out that the investigation into this girl was to kill me?"

Aaron laughed, and then while smiling, Yang Yi spread his hands, "Unfortunately, my people killed them."

Aaron’s smile faded.

Yang Yi continued calmly, "It was a case of mistaken identity."

Aaron, who had initially turned stern, laughed again, then spoke softly, "Mistaken identity, a very nice explanation, one I often use too."

Yang Yi took a breath and said, "Boss, I don’t have the right to threaten you, nor to demand anything from you. If you want to use me, you should fulfill the conditions you promised, not have me work for you on one hand and try to have me killed on the other."

Aaron smiled, "If I wanted to kill you, would I need to make it so complicated?"

Yang Yi waved his hand, "I don’t know the situation, but I feel... I am actually not that easy to be killed. I still have some confidence in that."

Yang Yi was defiant and arrogant, but Aaron didn’t take it the wrong way and still smiled, "Okay, let me explain. The people planning to kill you are CIA agents, but not sent by me. You need to understand something. You have your friends, Nicholas has his friends, but most importantly, there are interests at play. If I hand over Nicholas’s business to you, then some people will lose the benefits they used to have, so having enemies within the CIA should not surprise you."

Yang Yi spoke firmly, "Boss, please don’t treat me like a fool. I don’t believe anyone would dare touch me without your permission, you can’t clear up this point whatever you say; otherwise, I should question your control over your subordinates."

Aaron fell silent, then spread his hands, "Yes, you’ve pinpointed the key issue. No matter what I say, I can’t explain this point. Alright, I did tacitly allow those people’s actions."

Yang Yi asked sharply, "Why?"

Aaron smiled, "No reason. I just wanted to test your capability. So, I decided to see who between you and Nicholas was more worthy of being nurtured."

Yang Yi’s expression turned cold, "Is that so?"

Aaron spoke calmly, "Are you upset? You shouldn’t be. When you said you wanted to replace Nicholas, I always had to give those who have been dealing with Nicholas an explanation."

Yang Yi spoke gravely, "Isn’t my money real money? What can Nicholas offer that I can’t? So, this excuse... it’s meaningless."

Aaron continued calmly, "Since you want to take over Nicholas’s business, you should eradicate some of the troubles Nicholas has brought me."

Yang Yi closed his mouth.

Aaron smiled, "Humans are emotional creatures, which can sometimes be troublesome. Your money is money, but Nicholas has already been cooperating with some people for many years, they have connections. If someone is willing to stand up for Nicholas, why not take care of them too? It would make your future business easier, wouldn’t it?"

Finally, Aaron revealed the cold-hearted side beneath his amiable exterior.

"But they are CIA people, not Nicholas’s! You just need to say a word, and no one would dare defy, right?"

Aaron said calmly, "The problem is I didn’t speak up. Some people interpreted my silence as consent and decided to take matters into their own hands rather than acting under my explicit instructions. So, is not daring to oppose the same as not wanting to oppose?"

Yang Yi briefly fell silent, then shook his head, "No, it’s not."

Aaron picked up a pen, smiling, "Although two people died, you have proven your ability. I’ve seen some people’s thoughts and at the same time, you have weakened Nicholas’s strength. What could you possibly be dissatisfied with? Let’s let this matter go."

Aaron’s words were obscure, and he had indeed used the situation to his advantage. Unexpectedly, someone would suffer from the death of the two agents tracking Bonnie, but that was Aaron’s concern and not something Yang Yi could deal with.

Yang Yi would not ask if his performance was satisfactory or if Aaron was pleased with him; asking was pointless.

Yang Yi pondered quietly for a moment, then nodded, "I understand. Let’s let this matter go. If there is nothing else, I’ll take my leave and report back to you after the mission is fully completed."

Aaron nodded, "Do you have time for dinner? My treat."

"No thanks, Petra is waiting for me, and I want to hurry back and surprise her."

Aaron laughed, then joked, "How about considering marrying Petra?"

"Absolutely not."

"Just kidding, really just a joke."

After a chuckle, Aaron suddenly slapped his forehead and said nonchalantly, "Oh, there’s one more thing I forgot to mention. Nicholas actually hired an assassin, a very remarkable one."

Yang Yi now understood that between himself and Nicholas, Aaron had ultimately chosen him.

But he still needed to clarify about the assassin.

"An assassin? Who is it? Do you have more details?"

Aaron shook his head, "Unfortunately, I don’t know. But they are very confident dieser assassin can take you down. So... it’s better to be careful. I have high hopes for you, I believe nothing will happen to you."

Yang Yi was unsure whether Aaron really didn’t know, but since Aaron had told him about the assassin, had he really known the assassin’s details, he would likely have shared them as a favor. So if he said he didn’t know, it probably was true.

Aaron said nothing about assigning extra protection to Yang Yi. After contemplating briefly, Yang Yi nodded, "An assassin, got it. Thank you."
