Chapter 1018: Chapter 1023: Informant

Subconsciously, Yang Yi thought about asking Tang Guo and Schultz to investigate Petra, but it only took a moment for him to realize.

Now that he was with the CIA, why bother using his own people to investigate?

The CIA’s network surveillance capabilities are among the strongest in the world, looking up a girl would be a matter of minutes.

But should he investigate through the Security Department’s channel or the Operations Department’s channel? Although eventually, it would be the Info Center in the Intelligence Department providing the intelligence, the department used to access the information still made a difference.

He had just transferred to the Operations Department, where his identity and function arrangement were still a blank slate, so he might as well wait and see.

The investigation on Petra was temporarily suspended, meanwhile, Yang Yi wondered why Aaron was sabotaging Petra’s engagement to Carlson.

If Aaron wasn’t just meddling without a reason, there had to be a rationale behind his efforts to prevent the marriage between these two wealthy families; a banker’s daughter and a scion of an old industry consortium, such a marriage without doubt presented a mutual benefit between the old and new wealth.

The Medron Consortium still remained one of the top super-consortiums in the United States, but its strength wasn’t what it used to be, especially in recent years where finances had become extremely tight. Gaining the support from a bank would immensely benefit the Medron Consortium, but nevertheless, a dromedary stands taller than a horse, and a union between these two families could only be seen as a powerful alliance, ultimately Petra was marrying up.

There’s nothing unusual about the marriage between the two wealthy families, but the real reason Aaron wanted to prevent it was known only to him, and regardless, Aaron wouldn’t have given Yang Yi such a peculiar and challenging task just to test him.

Should he inform the cleaner about this mission?

After giving it some thought, Yang Yi decided not to mention it for now. He could wait until the cleaner’s men contacted him, but it wasn’t necessary to arrange for a meeting under the still unstable circumstances just to inform the cleaner about this affair, it wasn’t worth the risk.

Spending the night in doubt, the next morning Yang Yi couldn’t wait to go to work.

Then Yang Yi faced a new problem: should he drive his favorite RS6 to work, or the sports car?

He had many cars but rarely had the opportunity to drive them, which was a great source of frustration. After a moment of indecision, he decided to drive the Ferrari to work, one should not be too ostentatious, the Koenigsegg can stay in the garage.

Needless to say, it was extremely rare for someone to drive a sports car, especially a Ferrari, to the CIA headquarters.

When Yang Yi parked his car, he inevitably attracted many incredulous stares.

Aaron’s office was also in the CIA headquarters. As the director of the Operations Department, he primarily handled overseas business, but this didn’t mean he would perennially be stationed abroad, so most of his time was still spent at the CIA headquarters.

If he didn’t meet Aaron, Yang Yi wouldn’t even know where he was supposed to go for work since he definitely couldn’t return to his previous office, it was pitiful that he had only visited it twice.

"I need to see Director Aaron, I have matters to report."

In a unit like the CIA Operations Department, it’s definitely not a must to have an appointment to see someone, so when Yang Yi mentioned he wanted to see Aaron, Aaron’s secretary immediately notified him.

Soon, led by the secretary, Yang Yi entered Aaron’s office.

"Anything going on?"

"Many things, Director. First off, I need to know where I should be working."

Aaron smiled and said, "If it’s not necessary, try not to come to the headquarters in the future."

Yang Yi felt somewhat annoyed. He had just bought his house and car, and hadn’t had the chance to use them, and now they were already redundant.

If regular visits to the headquarters were unnecessary, Yang Yi could stay anywhere. Why had he to specifically stay in Washington D.C.?

"Yes, Director. Another thing, I need to investigate Petra’s personal information, requiring support from the network technology department. I’d like to know whom I should approach for this task."

Aaron frowned slightly and said, "Hm, can’t you handle such a simple task by yourself?"

Yang Yi could, but the problem was he didn’t want to reveal his cyber intelligence capabilities.

"The timeline is tight, Director. Of course, I can handle it myself, but it would take longer."

Aaron pondered for a moment then said, "I know. I’ll arrange it for you soon."

"About Ferguson and Ben Alfred, you mentioned assigning them to me. When can they be under my command? I need people to assist me."

"Today. Any other matters?"

Yang Yi thought and said, "I need some disposable... manpower, Director. While I’ll build a core team, I also need... I don’t know how you phrase it."

What Yang Yi meant was he needed expendables, people he could use and discard without remorse and wouldn’t feel bad about discarding.

Aaron gave a slight smile and said, "Informants. I’ll grant you the authority to independently recruit informants, and I’ll provide you with the funds. Anything else?"

Aaron clearly understood the situation—recruiting locals as informants to provide intelligence, then disregarding their fate once used, a slick operation for the CIA.

Yang Yi scratched his head, then he spoke softly, "Director, perhaps you could assign me a trustworthy assistant to facilitate our communication. Otherwise, I would have to personally deal with many things directly with you."

Aaron calmly said, "That’s fine, you’ve just transferred and are still unfamiliar with everything. Once you get the hang of things, you won’t need to consult me about everything. But if there’s anything you truly must tell me, just find me. I don’t mind."

Yang Yi considered and said, "In that case, I’ll go to the training camp and bring Ben with me. As for Ferguson..."

Aaron smiled and said, "I’ve already informed Ferguson. He will return to the United States tomorrow. You can meet him anywhere you like, and I’ll give you his phone number, so you two can contact directly. Anything else?"

"That’s all. When can I get Petra’s personal information?"

"What do you need?"

Yang Yi pondered for a long time, then he said firmly, "Her online shopping records, from the time she entered university until now, any extracurricular activities she participated in during her university days, her movement patterns, her social circle, and also, her financial accounts and usage details."

"Is that all?"

"Yes, that’s all."

"I thought you’d start from her interactions with her boyfriend. Well, the information you asked for isn’t difficult to obtain."

Aaron glanced at his watch and then smiled, "In twenty minutes you should have the data you need. You can rest in the outer office and have a cup of coffee or something."
