Chapter 1010: Chapter 115 Orders for Transfer
If Yang Yi wanted Ferguson dead, Ferguson would be dead. But he only made Ferguson pass out.
Ferguson passed out, and once unconscious, it was a clear, indisputable sign of his defeat, free of controversy.
However, the problem is that not everyone can understand a high-level duel, at least not everyone in this fight room aside from Yang Yi and Ferguson could comprehend what exactly had happened.
It’s like a sports game that is best enjoyed with an expert commentator, because without it, most viewers would miss the subtleties.
But there was no commentator in the fight room, so how did Yang Yi and Ferguson start their grappling and then suddenly Ferguson was mysteriously choked unconscious?
Thus, until Yang Yi let go of Ferguson’s neck, no one made a sound.
Yang Yi stood up from the ground and looked towards Aaron. After hesitating for a moment, he said in a deep voice, "He’s passed out."
It was only after Yang Yi spoke that Aaron seemed to suddenly come to his senses. He clapped his hands lightly twice and said, "Impressive."
If Aaron hadn’t been there, Yang Yi would have provoked the people from Operations, but since Aaron was present, he couldn’t continue doing so. After all, Aaron was the boss, and also in charge of Operations. Provoking in front of him would not be causing trouble but seeking death.
Walter suddenly let out a cheer, and under his lead, the people from Management started to clap, albeit a restrained round of applause.
What should he do next?
Some people rushed to check on Ferguson, who had collapsed on the ground. Aaron, however, showed no particular response; he watched as some people surrounded Ferguson, checked him over, and after ensuring there was no serious issue, left with a smile.
He left straight away without saying a word, without any indication.
Aaron’s intentions were unfathomable. What exactly did he want to do? If he planned to win over Yang Yi, he should have said something by now, but he left without uttering a word.
Yang Yi looked towards Hegelhaus. Today was supposed to be the day he set out for an air force base. Since the contest over, it was time to leave.
After accepting Walter’s congratulations, Yang Yi chatted with him for a while, then left the fight room with Hegelhaus.
Back in his room, Yang Yi calmed his thoughts and thought for a long time, yet he still couldn’t figure out Aaron’s intentions. It was too rash to say that Aaron wanted to get rid of him by using this opportunity, but Aaron didn’t make any moves to win him over.
The only certainty was that Aaron was observing him closely.
Yang Yi really wanted to make a phone call to contact the outside world, but he finally suppressed the urge.
He couldn’t be rash. Better slow than hasty; he must continue to proceed methodically and must not act impulsively.
Settling his thoughts, Yang Yi didn’t go to see Walter; he just packed his gear.
After lunch, Yang Yi found Hegelhaus, and then the two of them set out for the military airport as planned.
Everything was calm in the following days.
Yang Yi took several flights with the C130 crew and then flew twice as a co-pilot.
A week passed, and everything seemed uneventful.
Yang Yi was about to pilot the transport plane himself for the first time. With Hegelhaus and an air force captain in the flight crew, this would be his first time truly piloting a transport plane into the sky, so he was understandably a bit nervous and excited.
But just as Yang Yi was about to change into his flight suit, his phone rang.
It was a call from Walter. Yang Yi answered the phone and heard Walter say in an angry tone, "Buddy, I’ve got something to tell you. You’ve been reassigned, you’ve been transferred to Operations!"
Yang Yi exclaimed loudly, "What? I’ve been transferred to Operations?"
"Yes! Deputy Director Aaron personally issued the transfer order for you to report to Operations. I have no right to object unless... unless Deputy Director Porter MacLaurin decides to keep you, but I find that unlikely. Deputy Director MacLaurin has no reason to object."
This call was interesting.
Aaron hadn’t said a word to Yang Yi. He reassigned Yang Yi in the most straightforward way, without needing Yang Yi’s opinion. As a CIA deputy director, he could move someone to his command almost without obstacles.
Unless someone of equal rank to him intervened, like if Porter MacLaurin objected to Yang Yi being transferred to Operations, but under normal circumstances, why would Porter bother opposing Aaron for someone as minor as Yang Yi?
So, when Walter made this call, he seemed to be angrily informing Yang Yi of an unfortunate piece of news, but in reality, he was inquiring about Yang Yi’s thoughts; whether Yang Yi should go with the flow and be transferred to Aaron’s jurisdiction, or oppose it, preventing his transfer to Aaron’s control.
Yang Yi made a quick decision. He couldn’t go.
He couldn’t just be transferred to Operations so easily. Yang Yi didn’t know how much Aaron knew about him, but being moved to Operations without consultation and without a word was by no means a sign of value.
So, he couldn’t go, at least not so easily. Yang Yi needed to show his strength, to make Aaron invite him to Operations, not just be moved there by an order.
After entering Aaron’s sphere of attention, the likelihood of being bugged increased significantly. Therefore, some things still needed to be said, but they must be said in a normal manner.
Yang Yi urgently said, "What’s going on? I don’t want to go to Operations. If I go to Operations... how can I handle my affairs? Boss, even if Aaron is deputy director, he can’t just arbitrarily transfer people between departments, right? There must be a way; you have to think of something for me."
Walter seemed troubled by Yang Yi’s words, "Deputy Director Aaron doesn’t have direct jurisdiction over you, but he is still the deputy director. Since he has proposed the transfer... it’s difficult, it’s very difficult for us to reject Aaron’s request unless Deputy Director MacLaurin personally refuses. Okay, I’ll discuss it with Deputy Director MacLaurin to see if he would be willing to intervene personally."
"I can’t go to Operations. If I go there, then I really won’t be able to accomplish anything. Please, you mustn’t let me be transferred."
"I’ll do my best, wait for my call."
Walter hung up. Yang Yi put his cellphone in the locker. At that moment, Hegelhaus, who had already changed into his flight suit, came over and asked, "What’s happening? Why haven’t you changed yet?"
Yang Yi shrugged his shoulders and responded, "I just got a call, received some bad news. I’m being transferred to Operations."
Hegelhaus was taken aback and then asked in surprise, "Have you been noticed by the people from Operations? Or are the people from Operations planning retribution?"
