Chapter 1009: Chapter 114 Strangulation
The one who entered was Aaron, and the two people by his side were the fighting instructors.
"It seems I arrived just in time."
After entering, the amiable-looking elder smiled and said this, then he walked to the center of the fighting ring and stretched out his hand towards Yang Yi.
Yang Yi felt somewhat at a loss but he quickly extended his hand and shook hands with the elder.
"Hello, I’m Aaron, your deputy director."
After introducing himself with a smile to Yang Yi, Aaron also extended his hand towards Ferguson and smiled, "Long time no see, Ferguson."
Aaron naturally took on the role of the referee and, after shaking hands with both Yang Yi and Ferguson, he turned around, back facing the two men, and spoke loudly with a smile, "Hello everyone, the situation today is a bit unusual, I should not be here, but I still came. As the head of operations, I have always advocated for healthy competition within our bureau, so when I heard that two of our highly skilled subordinates wanted to have a fair contest here, I had to come and watch."
After finishing speaking, Aaron turned back around and then he loudly said, "Gentlemen, I must make a request, give it your all, but try to avoid getting hurt."
With this, Aaron was done speaking, he quickly stepped back to the side of the ring then he gestured with his hand and said loudly, "Begin."
Should he still try to injure Ferguson?
Yang Yi appeared somewhat hesitant, so when Aaron gave the order to begin, he didn’t move forward but instead voluntarily took a step back.
Yang Yi felt a significant amount of pressure, something that he showed, and the source of the pressure was due to Aaron’s sudden arrival.
But Yang Yi knew the pressure on Ferguson was even greater, and there was no need to show it.
Ferguson had to launch an attack, his most immediate superior was personally watching the match.
Under normal circumstances, Ferguson wouldn’t need to be in such a hurry to launch the attack, but now, whether he needed to or truly wanted to, he had to take the offensive, especially after Yang Yi had voluntarily stepped back, adopting a defensive posture.
Ferguson didn’t hesitate; he charged towards Yang Yi.
Fast speed, and even stronger explosive power.
Ferguson threw a punch at Yang Yi’s neck, then followed with a sweeping kick.
Yang Yi dodged to the side, jumping back a step, and then retreated another three steps.
A true master, he really is a master.
Yang Yi felt an unprecedented pressure.
When it comes to physical combat, Yang Yi does not fear an opponent who’s recklessly quick or ruthless, that kind of opponent isn’t a worry, as long as you can find an opportunity, you can bring the opponent down with a single strike. But against an opponent who is both fast and ruthless, yet still retains some reserve strength to change tactics at any time, you have to be careful.
If the first strike doesn’t hit, it’s very likely you’ll be countered by the opponent.
Yang Yi could now confirm that the contest with Ferguson was bound to be decided in one move. It was not about fighting for hundreds of rounds, even three to five moves were unlikely.
To subdue the enemy in one move, to kill with a single strike, Yang Yi could do this, and his opponent was obviously capable of doing the same.
Ferguson was a formidable opponent, and a clever one at that.
Yang Yi quickly became aware of this.
With Aaron present, Ferguson had to launch an attack, but after attacking once, he became calm and patient, because he had already shown his stance. Now that Yang Yi didn’t dare to counter, he could slowly look for opportunities.
It turns out to be an opponent with exceptionally stable psychological qualities, well, to become a real master, failing in psychological resilience is not an option.
So, it’s time to retreat.
Yang Yi realized one thing: Ferguson was indeed not only a formidable but also a very tough opponent to deal with.
If he had a knife, Yang Yi would be a bit more confident, but with only his bare hands, he must ensure a successful strike on Ferguson, otherwise, he would leave an opportunity for Ferguson.
Yang Yi kept retreating; in the middle of the arena surrounded by spectators, he moved backward with small steps in a leisurely manner, while Ferguson always maintained a distance of about three meters, advancing at the same unhurried pace.
It looked like a really boring and dull high-level duel.
One was retreating while the other advanced, neither willing to close the distance.
Yang Yi was fostering a results-oriented mindset for a decisive victory; the real fight had already begun, starting with the psychological aspect.
If this were a real battle, neither side would have the chance to look for such opportunities, but this was a competition, which was a different matter.
Yang Yi knew he had already won, for a simple reason: he could afford to drag it out, Ferguson could not.
Indeed, Ferguson had already adopted an aggressive stance; after attacking once, he bought himself some time, but don’t forget that Aaron was right there.
Ferguson could afford to stall with Yang Yi for a minute, two minutes, or even five minutes.
But could he afford ten minutes?
Ferguson was destined to launch another offensive; therefore, he had only one choice: to build up momentum during his continuous advance, forcing Yang Yi to keep retreating until he achieved an overwhelming sense of certainty of victory, and then making a sudden move when Yang Yi was off guard to resolve the fight in an instant.
Yang Yi was biding his time, waiting for an opportunity when Ferguson became impatient and reckless, whereas Ferguson was leveraging Yang Yi’s intention to delay, looking for a chance to suddenly strike and take down Yang Yi.
These were the plans of both Yang Yi and Ferguson, but the problem was that Yang Yi had seen through Ferguson’s plan, so Ferguson’s calculations were unlikely to succeed.
Several laps had already been turned, and whispers began to spread among the audience.
The spectators were growing impatient, although Ferguson showed no sign of impatience, but he must be reaching his limit, as Aaron had been eagerly watching this circular performance for three minutes already.
The fighting arena was covered with mats, very smooth and even.
Yang Yi continued to retreat; he couldn’t see what was behind him, while Ferguson kept his eyes on what was ahead, which gave him an advantage in terms of field of vision and movement.
But Yang Yi knew that, after retreating seven more steps and shifting one meter to the left, there was a slight height difference where two mats met at a corner.
There was a height difference between a new mat and an old mat, lifted by less than two centimeters, and the mats were very soft.
Yang Yi slightly altered his direction, veering a little bit with each step.
Yang Yi couldn’t see what was behind him, so when his foot dragged on the ground as he stepped backward, it eventually bumped into that lifted corner.
Yang Yi’s body swayed slightly, and Ferguson suddenly let out a fierce roar.
The three-meter distance was closed in a flash; Ferguson would first clamp down on Yang Yi’s right arm, kick at Yang Yi’s leg, and then a blow from his elbow could land on Yang Yi’s neck, ending his life.
But what if Yang Yi had intentionally created this flaw, this opportunity for Ferguson to attack? What if his loss of balance was a feint to deliver a lethal blow?
The result was Ferguson’s attack missing its mark, Yang Yi dodged in an impossible manner, slipping through Ferguson’s outstretched arms at an impossible angle, because his imbalance was merely a feigned action. If Ferguson hadn’t fallen for it, he would have been finished.
But how could Ferguson not fall for it?
So Yang Yi ended up behind Ferguson, kicked the back of Ferguson’s knee, then extended both arms.
Strangulation.
Ferguson’s neck was clutched by Yang Yi as he fell to the ground, and within a few short seconds, Ferguson’s eyes rolled back white.
