Chapter 72: A little surprise

Lu Jinhai hadn’t had a good rest in days. On top of that, his insomnia had been acting up again, so he only got around two and a half hours of sleep everyday.

He had been working non stop every day so that his pending work plus some extra work would be finished before the weekend trip with Mo Chou and the others.

Lu Jinhai didn’t even have the time to organize the trip himself, so he had asked his butler to do it. He also didn’t mind the sleepless nights as long as he could spend time with Mo Chou without any work related interruption.

Lu Jinhai had almost not been able to hold himself back from pulling Mo Chou into a hug when he saw her in front of his house but he had stopped himself by taking the box of cake from her.

When he exited the hut after putting away the food, Lu Jinhai had been mesmerized just watching Mo Chou walk around the sand, she was incredibly beautiful no matter what she did.

Lu Jinhai saw her looking around for something in the sand and started walking towards her. Suddenly, Mo Chou excitedly started running towards something she had found and stumbled. Lu Jinhai had closed the distance between them already, so he quickly held her waist and pulled Mo Chou into his embrace.

He took a deep breath, Mo Chou smelled really addicting. Lu Jinhai wanted to freeze time itself, so that they could remain like this forever but of course that didn’t happen.

Mo Chou let Lu Jinhai hold her for a while because she had been in a hazy dream-like state after being hugged by Lu Jinhai.

Although Mo Chou had gotten plenty of hugs after transmigrating into this world, this one was just ’different’ somehow. Her mind stopped working for a second and Mo Chou froze but then the warmth from Lu Jinhai’s embrace felt so good.

But right after she realized that she was in Lu Jinhai’s embrace and even enjoying it, Mo Chou got a little startled and tried to create some distance among them, "ahem, thanks for, you know, catching me and all" she said a little awkwardly.

Lu Jinhai didn’t want to let go of Mo Chou at all but he had no choice, "anytime" he replied.

Mo Chou felt herself blushing for some reason and immediately turned around so that Lu Jinhai would not see her face, "let’s go find Li Chen and Huang Chunhua. It’s been a while since they have been gone now".

She started walking but then suddenly remembered the pretty seashell she had seen earlier. First, Mo Chou picked it up and examined it, ’it’s so beautiful, I bet mom will love it’.

She put it inside her bag and was about to search for Li Chen and Huang Chunhua when she saw them walking over. Both of them seemed to be exhausted and were even panting a little.

"Waterrr pleaseee" said Li Chen and sat down on a rock that was nearby.

"I want water too" added Huang Chunhua but she couldn’t find any rocks to sit on so she could only stand helplessly.

"I’ll go get it" Lu Jinhai said and went to fetch water.

Mo Chou looked at both her friends and wanted to laugh but held back, instead she said in a teasing tone, "so what happened to you both? Weren’t you running around energetically just now"?

Huang Chunhua answered her, "It’s all Li Chen’s fault. First she wanted to feel the sand, then she wanted to take pictures and then, she saw all the colorful rocks and seashells and started running around like a monkey trying to collect all of them. She even pulled me along everywhere".

Mo Chou was a little surprised, this was the first time that she had heard Huang Chunhua rant like this.

"Hehe, sorry my baby, I’ll make it up to you by giving you all the chicken that I made," Li Chen said, acting silly.

"Who wants to eat that? It probably tastes bad just like the other times you decided to cook" replied Huang Chunhua angrily.

"Ouch" Li Chen acted like an arrow had hit her heart. Mo Chou was smiling widely without even knowing it.

Lu Jinhai witnessed this when he came back with two bottles of cold water, he was glad that everyone was having fun, especially Mo Chou.

"Ohh, yay, cold water" Li Chen hurriedly took a water bottle and started gulping. After she was finished, she let out a sigh and asked, "Why is the water cold though? I didn’t see a fridge"?

Lu Jinhai replied saying, "Those two huts over there have a small kitchen and a freezer too".

Everyone gave Lu Jinhai a thumbs up for this foresight.

"Come on, I’m still not done taking everyone’s pictures".

Li Chen was energetic again and pulled Mo Chou and Huang Chunhua to play around. They took pictures and played with the water, collecting some pretty looking rocks and seashells. Lu Jinhai just watched them, participating from time to time.

He felt relaxed and content just watching Mo Chou have fun. While the girls were picking up seashells, he also picked some up which he felt looked rather good. Lu Jinhai wanted to give them to Mo Chou later.

Li Chen started feeling rather hungry after playing for a long time, "let’s eat now guys, I’m pretty hungry plus I can’t wait to try everything you all made".

Lu Jinhai heard her words and asked everyone to follow him. They went back towards the huts. To the girl’s surprise, everything was already ready.

There was a huge beach umbrella and under it, a few big blankets were laid out. There was a lot of food laid out already and the food that Huang Chunhua and Li Chen had bought was kept neatly at the side.

"I’ll be right back" Li Chen entered one of the huts and came out with the cake that Mo Chou had made.

Two men who were dressed like chefs came out after Lu Jinhai with trays full of different types of drinks.

Everyone was impressed with Lu Jinhai’s meticulous behavior.

Li Chen even started drooling a little, looking at all the delicious looking food served out. Everyone sat down and started eating. They decided to first try the food that the girls had cooked.

Huang Chunhua took out the dishes she had made and like everyone had thought, everything was delicious. Next was Li Chen’s turn and almost everyone immediately spat out the chicken after putting it into their mouths which made Li Chen laugh hysterically for some reason.

Finally it was Mo Chou’s turn. Mo Chou cut the cake into small pieces first and gave everyone a piece each to try.

Li Chen and Huang Chunhua immediately started praising her after having a single bite, even Lu Jinhai who hadn’t really spoken since they started eating said that it was good.

Mo Chou was a little sad that Lu Jinhai didn’t say anything else but she saw that throughout the whole meal, Lu Jinhai ate most of the cake, even ignoring the delicious dishes which were made by his chefs. He even took the last piece which she was going to take for herself, making her smile.

Everyone was stuffed after the meal, so they just enjoyed the breeze and the peaceful atmosphere. Li Chen even fell asleep after a while on the blanket while the others just relaxed while watching the waves roll in.

Mo Chou gave everyone a box of cookies that she had made, Li Chen and Huang Chunhua opened it and took a bite but Lu Jinhai kept it next to him, he couldn’t bear to eat it immediately.

Li Chen stood up and wanted to take one last walk before they had to go home. She pulled Huang Chunhua along with her and left Mo Chou and Lu Jinhai alone.

Lu Jinhai suddenly stood up and entered one of the huts. Mo Chou just looked ahead, not thinking anything about it. Suddenly, a box appeared before her. "For you," Lu Jinhai said and looked away.

’Is he shy’? Mo Chou thought in amusement looking at Lu Jinhai’s side profile. She was quite curious and opened the box.

"....umm, these are burnt apples"? Mo Chou asked in a confused tone.

Lu Jinhai’s face turned dark as he answered, "It’s candied apples".

"I think your chef might have burnt it or something", Mo Chou said, examining the apples. Lu Jinhai tried to take it back but Mo Chou quickly hid it, "I still want it though".

Finally, Lu Jinhai’s expression cleared up a little. What Mo Chou didn’t know was that it was actually poor Lu Jinhai who had woken up early in the morning just to make those candied apples.

After trying several times, he had finally felt satisfied with these and decided to give it to Mo Chou.

All of a sudden, it started turning gloomy and clouds started appearing in the sky. Li Chen and Huang Chunhua also came back as they were afraid that it would start raining.

"Should we go home now"? Mo Chou asked Lu Jinhai after looking at the sky worriedly.

Before Lu Jinhai could answer her, the skipper who had driven the boat hurried over and informed Lu Jinhai that a beach storm was incoming and they would not be able to leave as it was too dangerous.

The girls immediately got worried after hearing his words, "oh no, what are we going to do? Where are we even going to stay"?

Lu Jinhai looked at them calmly and answered, "don’t worry, I have a mansion here where we can stay".
