Chapter 53: Old master Liu

Liu Qiang’s father and Mo Chou’s grandfather was a well-known and well respected figure. The Liu family was a family with deep roots in the country. They possessed a lot of wealth but Liu Qiang’s grandfather was a playboy and good for nothing.

When Liu Qiang’s grandfather was handed the family business, he did not do a good job and the company almost went bankrupt. That’s when Liu Qiang’s father who had just returned from the military with great achievements took over the business and not only saved it but made it flourish.

Initially, everyone thought that he would not be proficient at handling the business as he had joined the military very early and had no experience in running the family business, but he proved everyone wrong.

Old master Liu was a strict and disciplined man, he rarely even showed affection towards his own children,but the one thing everyone knew about old master Liu was that he loved his wife deeply.

The couple were childhood sweethearts and had always loved and supported each other, so when old madam Liu passed away, old master Liu retired fully and didn’t even leave his house unless it was for something very important.

As he was visiting out of the blue right after An Daiyu’s incident, it meant that he was probably here to talk about Liu Dai’s and An Daiyu’s engagement. Mo Chou hoped that he would not insist on continuing the engagement but she was a little doubtful as from what she knew, old master Liu never went back on his words, plus An Daiyu’s grandfather had been one of his close friends when he was alive.

Mo Chou sighed, she could not really do anything now but no matter what old master Liu decides, she would not let An Daiyu enter the family. She just had to take everything one step at a time for now.

Mo Li had hurried Mo Chou to get ready as quickly as possible, so Mo Chou quickly selected some clothes which were appropriate for receiving guests. She didn’t want to take a bath at that time,so she just washed her face and fixed her hair. She decided against putting on any makeup as firstly, she was lazy and secondly, she didn’t know if her grandfather disliked makeup.

Mo Chou thought, ’I don’t think grandfather will interact with me a lot anyway’.

After she was done, Mo Chou went downstairs where everyone had already gathered. Liu Dai looked normal but Liu Qiang and Mo Li seemed nervous.

Even the butler was standing there nervously ready to welcome old master Liu. Mo Chou looked at the time and asked "What time is grandfather arriving exactly?"

"He informed us that he would be arriving at seven thirty" replied Liu Qiang.

Mo Chou, "..." It wasn’t even five past seven yet. She sat down while Liu Dai was sitting with a normal expression, he was constantly tapping his thigh with his fingers.

Mo Chou wanted to laugh, ’wow, so even my brother is nervous huh, I really want to see just how scary grandfather is now’.

Mo Chou was getting bored after waiting for a while when a maid hurriedly came and informed the butler that old master Liu had arrived. Everyone stood up and waited with baited breath as the door slowly opened.

Old master Liu entered the room and scanned everything with his eyes first then finally, he looked at Liu Qiang and said, "you seem to be doing good".

Liu Qiang finally went forward to greet his father and everyone else followed. Old master Liu only said a few words to Mo Li and gave Mo Chou and Liu Dai a glance.

It seemed as if he couldn’t even be bothered wasting his words for them but Mo Chou had noticed that old master Liu had looked at her longer than he had with Liu Dai and there was a subtle glint in his eyes.

’Did he notice something?’ thought Mo Chou but old master Liu didn’t say anything and walked past them.

He sat down and answered Liu Qiang’s and Mo Li’s questions about his health and such patiently.

After he was done, he faked a cough to get everyone’s attention, "ahem, you all should have figured out the reason for my visit today. I want to know everything that happened with that girl, An Daiyu".

Old master Liu gave Liu Qiang a look and he immediately understood that old master Liu wanted to know how An Daiyu had done such a thing when he was supposed to be responsible for her.

Liu Qiang told him everything honestly. His secretary had been handling everything related to An Daiyu and she had seemed to be a good person but she had started changing a few months ago, neglecting her studies and everything and had suddenly decided to come back.

He told old master Liu about how An Daiyu had acted after arriving and had even accused Mo Chou.

Liu Qiang had investigated everything thoroughly after the incident in the morning and had even found out about her ’friends’.

Old master Liu listened with a grave expression, he looked at Mo Chou when he heard about the part where An Daiyu had accused Mo Chou but didn’t say anything.

After Liu Qiang finished talking, everyone waited for old master Liu to speak.

Old master Liu kept quiet for a few minutes, which made Liu Qiang and Mo Li a little nervous. Finally, he said, "It was a good decision to kick that girl out of the house".

Everyone immediately heaved a sigh of relief. Old master Liu didn’t continue after that but everyone knew that his words basically meant that the engagement was over.

It was only a verbal agreement after all and after An Daiyu’s behavior, no one would say anything about their decision to break the engagement.

Liu Dai also finally relaxed when he heard old master Liu’s words. He didn’t want to have a disagreement with his grandfather, especially because of someone like An Daiyu.

Seeing that the matter had been decided, Mo Li asked old master Liu to stay for dinner. Old master Liu wanted to deny but he saw that everyone was looking at him with eager eyes, ’forget it, I haven’t visited everyone in a long time so I might as well have dinner’.

Old master Liu nodded his head and Mo Li immediately ordered the butler to set the table in the dining room. Old master Liu had stopped eating any kind of meat after old madam Liu’s death, so Mo Li had thoughtfully ordered the chef to only prepare vegetarian dishes for everyone.

Mo Chou looked at the dishes but didn’t feel unhappy, even the vegetable dishes looked scrumptious and she didn’t mind anything if it was not made by Mo Li.

If Mo Li could hear her daughter’s thoughts, she would have been really sad, ’is my cooking that horrible’?

Everyone sat down in their seats, old master Liu naturally sat on the head seat and started eating first.

The dinner table was quiet as everyone ate without saying a word. After everyone finished eating, old master Liu got up to go back. Everyone followed him to send him off. Before he went, old master Liu asked Liu Qiang to visit him from time to time which stunned him.

Finally, before entering the car, old master Liu said, "Your daughter seems to have become more mature".

Liu Qiang watched his father’s car leave and then turned to Mo Chou. "You are really dad’s lucky charm, even your grandfather who never liked visitors asked me to visit him. It must be because he saw how good the daughter I raised turned out to be".

Liu Dai who was standing by the side, ’umm, what about your son?’

Mo Chou felt a little embarrassed for getting complimented even though she hadn’t done anything, "thanks dad" she said making Liu Qiang even more happy.

"Have you finished your pocket money yet?" asked Liu Qiang.

"....no, I still have quite a bit left but I’ll tell you when it is finished" replied Mo Chou, she knew by now that Liu Qiang wanted to pamper her but couldn’t think of anything and only asked her if she had money.

Mo Chou gave him a smile. Liu Qiang nodded his head hearing her words. Mo Li also added, "you should ask your son if he wants pocket money too".

"Hmph, he already has a lot of money, why would I give him anymore?" refused Liu Qiang immediately.

Mo Li smiled helplessly while Liu Dai made a shocked expression which made Mo Li giggle.

Everyone headed inside and Mo Li proposed that they have a family movie night. Since no one had any plans for the night, everyone agreed and started getting everything ready. Mo Li went to the kitchen to get snacks and popcorn while Liu Dai and Mo Chou looked for a movie which would be appropriate for family time. Everyone sat on the sofas and comfortable chairs and started watching the movie.

Mo Chou looked at everyone and smiled, ’ my family is the best thing to ever happen to me’.
