Chapter 54: Suitors

Old master Liu arrived at his house and what greeted him was only silence. He sighed, the house felt a little lonely today. He had gotten pretty used to it but after seeing his son and grandchildren today, he couldn’t help but miss his dear wife.

The servants that served him had already left for the day and only an old butler who had been serving him for a long time was in the house. The servants wouldn’t dare talk to him anyways, so he only had his butler as a companion.

When the old master was at the Liu mansion, he noticed that something seemed to be different. Everyone seemed more harmonious than before and more like a close family than before.

Old master Liu hadn’t said anything but he was happy for his son and grandson. His son had immersed himself in his work after the death of his first wife and Liu Dai’s mother. Liu Dai was basically looked after by nannies and teachers Liu Qiang had hired.

Perhaps because Liu Dai didn’t receive much paternal love, he developed a cold and stoic personality.

Old master Liu had been happy when Liu Qiang had married Mo Li after they had fallen in love, but Liu Dai didn’t really seem thrilled on the day of the wedding.

Now that he had seen how everyone got together well and Liu Dai was even a little cheerful, completely different to his former self, he was pleased.

Old master Liu couldn’t help but think about Mo Chou too. He had only seen her at Liu Qiang and Mo Li’s wedding and she seemed like a spoiled and rude little girl. Although he hadn’t seen her after the wedding, he still knew about her personality and activities. Liu Qiang was Old master Liu’s only biological son after all, so he got his butler to update him about everyone once a week or so.

Recently his butler had mentioned the changed behavior of his granddaughter Mo Chou but he hadn’t expected the change to be so huge.

On the day of the wedding, Mo Chou had been so scared of his aura that she didn’t even dare to lift her head in front of him but today, not only did Mo Chou look him in the eye but she also seemed to have completely changed.

She no longer seemed spoiled or arrogant, rather she seemed to be bright and fearless.

He was surprised when he saw Mo Chou as she gave him a feeling that he was looking at a person who was not scared of anything, even death.

’How can a person change so drastically in such a short amount of time?’ Old master Liu really wanted to know. His butler was waiting for him inside the house, so when old master Liu saw him, he said, "I want you to do a thorough investigation on my granddaughter".

"Which granddaughter?" asked the butler in a cautious tone.

Old master Liu actually got angry and said, "I only have one granddaughter and that is Mo Chou. Now stop thinking all this nonsense and go, I want to rest now".

The old butler sighed and left obediently, "haa, when is the old master going to let go of his grudge?"

Mo Chou exited from her car at the University entrance the next day. This time, Lu Jinhai was already waiting for her. He wished her a good morning like usual and started walking next to her.

Mo Chou wondered why Lu Jinhai liked following her around so much, he didn’t even talk much and just listened while she talked to others. If others didn’t know the truth, they would think that he was her ’bodyguard’.

But Mo Chou didn’t really mind him, she would even feel a little lonely if he didn’t come to university or follow her around.

’Haa, I shouldn’t get so attached right?’ Mo Chou sighed helplessly.

Lu Jinhai saw her sigh like an old grandma and couldn’t help but smile. Sometimes he really wanted to see what was going on in that little head of hers. She would make these expressions from time to time which you would miss if you weren’t looking closely.

For others, she always had a neutral expression aside from when she was talking to her friends and it would be hard to know what she was thinking, but Lu Jinhai was always carefully looking her and searching for the tiny cues which would reveal what she was thinking such as a slight twitch of her lips or a small nose scrunch.

It had become sort of like a game for Lu Jinhai and he enjoyed it very much but even more than her facial expressions, he liked looking at her eyes. She had such beautiful eyes like a little doe.

Mo Chou could feel Lu Jinhai’s eyes on her, she didn’t know why but it was getting harder and harder to just ignore his presence. Instead she had to stop herself from looking at him but it was quite hard, especially when he had such a handsome face. Even though he was fully clothed, his lean muscles and tapered waist couldn’t be hidden.

Mo Chou was considered quite tall but Lu Jinhai simply towered over her with his height.

Li Chen and Huang Chunhua had seen Mo Chou and Lu Jinhai from afar and were waving at them but Mo Chou seemed to be in her own world and didn’t notice them at all. After they reached them and Mo Chou still didn’t notice them, Li Chen went forward and said in a loud voice, "hey, what are you thinking about so deeply"?

Mo Chou immediately snapped out of her thoughts and felt her ears starting to warm up. ’Ugh, what is wrong with me? Am I becoming like one of those crazy idol fans who obsess over their idols’?

"Umm nothing much, just something at home" Mo Chou replied to Li Chen with a normal expression.

Li Chen and Huang Chunhua just nodded as they didn’t find anything wrong with Mo Chou’s words but Lu Jinhai looked knowingly at Mo Chou’s slightly pink ears.

’Is she thinking about me?’ thought Lu Jinhai, he hoped he was correct as he didn’t really want to ’deal’ with anyone, he needed to maintain his image in front of Mo Chou after all.

Mo Chou warned herself to stop daydreaming about silly stuff. Li Chen and Huang Chunhua were discussing the weekend they had planned the day before. Both of them had already gotten approval from their families to go to the private beach and were excited.

They had planned to bring snacks and everything that was required as it was a private beach with no shops nearby. Lu Jinhai wanted to say that he would manage everything and there was no need to bring anything when Li Chen excitedly suggested that the three of them would bring one item which they made themselves so that they could taste each others cooking.

Lu Jinhai swallowed his words and kept quiet, he wanted to taste Mo Chou’s cooking too so he obviously could not suggest otherwise.

Mo Chou heard Li Chen’s words and felt a little hesitant, she had never cooked before aside from cooking ramen and an occasional egg but that was it.

’Forget it, I’ll satisfy their wishes. How hard can cooking be anyway? I’ll just have to accurately follow some recipes’.

Hence, Mo Chou agreed and Huang Chunhua who liked cooking and experimented with food quite often, obviously had no objections.

After arriving in front of the class, Huang Chunhua left and the rest entered the class. It seemed like the hype of the recent news still hadn’t died down and there were many students who were sneakily glancing at Mo Chou and whispering to each other.

Mo Chou ignored them and went to her seat. After the professor arrived, everyone’s focus shifted on him and the class went as usual.

After the class, Mo Chou sat at her regular table with everyone. Just like the day before, the girl kept secretly glancing at Mo Chou.

Mo Chou was actually getting a little irritated at her sneaky attitude, ’if she really wanted to say something, she should just say it. Why is she acting as if I’m a bad guy or something’.

Mo Chou didn’t have much of an appetite, so she decided that she would make an opportunity for the girl to say whatever she had to say, so she could get it over with.

Mo Chou knew that Lu Jinhai would follow her if she got up from her chair, so she first said that she was going to the ladies bathroom.

Lu Jinhai actually knew that Mo Chou was giving the girl on their table an opportunity to talk to her, so he didn’t follow and just kept eating his food.

Mo Chou stood up and headed towards the direction of the bathroom. The girl obviously took the opportunity and followed her. After reaching a relatively empty space, Mo Chou turned around and directly said, " what do you want to say?"

The girl was shocked but still wanted Mo Chou’s help, so she told her about how she had admired Liu Dai for a long time and wondered if she could introduce her to him.

Mo Chou heard her words and said in a flat tone, "I’m sorry but I don’t want to interfere in my brother’s love life". She left without looking back and headed to the bathroom, ’might as well use it’.

While she was washing her hands, Mo Chou heard the bathroom door open and get locked. She thought that it was the girl again and looked up only to see none other than An Daiyu.

Before she could even utter a word, An Daiyu attacked Mo Chou with a knife...
