Sleeping With The CEO -
Chapter 252: Going Where?
Chapter 252: Going Where?
Being with Derek often left Emily feeling as though she was losing touch with reality for a bit. The way that she was used to things working, becoming untrue simply because she happened to be in the presence of one Derek Haven.
At first, Emily could not sleep. Then one day she shared a bed with Derek and voilà! She was suddenly able to sleep through the night without a single nightmare. Then of course there was that whole thing where she had gone to bed single, and had woken him up in the middle of the night. The two of them talking things out, until she felt ready to accept. Meaning that come morning she had a boyfriend.
And the whole Derek is my boyfriend, and I am his girlfriend thing. Had led to the situation that Emily was in now.
In a car with Derek on a Saturday morning, instead of being in bed with him back at the penthouse. They were headed somewhere that only Derek knew.
And judging by the way that he kept drumming his fingers over the steering wheel. It promised to be someplace good.
Emily had to admit she was more than a little bit curious. She wanted to know where they were going. She wanted to know so bad that it was almost a physical ache.
Emily had never been one of those people who was content to be left in the dark. She was always more comfortable knowing exactly what to expect.
But Derek seemed very pleased with the surprise that he had arranged, and she did not want to ruin that for him. So she decided that she would play along, at least for a little while. But if wherever it was that they were going turned out to be a trip that required them to be driving for more than an hour, just to get there. Then Emily was not sure that she would be able to hold on that long.
By that point she was pretty certain that her patience would have been worn down to just bare threats so thin, that even a spider’s web was thicker than them. She would begin pestering Derek non-stop, and trying to find answers for herself so that she knew exactly where they were going. But that point in time was yet to come, and if she was lucky it never would.
Hopefully, wherever it was that Derek was taking her, was some place close by. She would not have to experience the feeling of really, really, really, really... wanting to know where they were going. Hoping that that would be the case, Emily decided to stop overthinking and just settle down.
Letting her body melt into her seat, Emily reclined a bit and then closed her eyes. Taking deep breaths in and out. Moments later she felt a small smile begin to form on her lips, and she let it.
In the confines of the car,
Derek’s scent, warm and soothing, was comforting to her. And with her eyes closed, she could focus on it even more. But that was not the only thing that she became more sensitive to once her eyelids went down. It was almost as though the smooth vibrations of the car amplified.
Now that she was no longer being distracted by sight. She could enjoy the way Derek drove smoothly over bumps. The car never once faltering under his practiced hands, and Emily felt it when they left the city. Derek no longer stopped at random times.
and the sounds of traffic all but died down, leaving almost absolute silence behind.
As the car continued to move, Emily saw shades of red and black behind her eyelids. Shadow and light dancing across her face as Derek moved from tree shadows to areas where the land was barren.
Just focusing on those few things, allowed her to slip into a state of calmness that she very rarely experienced. Most likely, she would have stayed in it much longer, had Derek not pulled her out of it?
"Are you asleep?" His voice came. A low whisper. Clearly, he did not want to wake her in case she was. In answer, Emily widened her smile and turned to him, blinking her eyes open.
"No, I am not. I am simply just enjoying this. This is nice, so long as this isn’t the whole date, then it is good," She told him.
He turned towards her briefly, one eyebrow raised. Then he turned back towards the road.
"I would be a pretty horrible boyfriend, right? Just showing you a nice car and calling it a date," He asked, eyes on the road.
"If this were the entirety of our very first date as a couple,"
Emily chuckled, secretly relieved that he’d not thought a car ride counted as a date.
"Yes, you would go down in the history books as one of the worst boyfriends ever. But my Derek is too kind and caring, to do something so lazy," Still looking at the road, Derek smiled. "Oh, so I’m your Derek now," He asked.
Emily did not even try to deny it. "Of course, who else would you be?"
"And just to be clear, when I say this is nice, I do not mean that this car is. I mean just being here with you. We should do this more often," Emily told him. To emphasize her point, she straightened her seat and began fiddling with the radio. Stopping when she came to a station that she liked and then she lowered the window.
The car was instantly flooded with cold air from outside, but Emily did not mind it. She stuck her hand out, her fingers cutting through the breeze, feeling it. Once again she closed her eyes. This time she was nodding her head to the beat of the song that was currently playing.
Laughing when Derek began to sing along. Yes, Emily thought, as she opened her eyes just to marvel at the sight of Derek Haven singing. She could get used to this.
When Derek had asked her to be his girlfriend.
She had said yes but had not wanted other people to know about them before she was comfortable with where they were as a couple. And in that moment Emily realized that slowly but surely she was getting closer and closer to a point where she would not mind who knew about them.
So long as she had Derek by her side, everything would be alright.
