Sleeping With The CEO -
Chapter 228: Who’s The Sarge?
Chapter 228: Who’s The Sarge?
When Emily had said they should just throw caution to the wind and sleep together again.
He should have shot her down instantly. Telling her no in a firm voice.
Afterall, they had just barely managed to evade his uncle. It was too risky for them to be going back to sleeping with one another so soon.
Especially since she was suggesting that they take Monday as a treat instead of at least waiting for Thursday.
He should have disagreed with her. Told her that they could not do it. But the moment that Emily had told him that she wanted to go back to sleeping together. Derek had become powerless. She had taken the words right out of his fantasies after all.
It was all that he had been thinking about in the two weeks that they had been apart. Every waking moment spent either thinking about sleeping with Emily. Or thinking of ways in which he could get to sleep with her again. ’So what if your uncle is suspicious?’ The devil-may-care voice at the back of his head said. ’So what if your mother has also been snooping around recently? Both of them are gone now. They are not a threat at the moment. What will you do? Keep worrying about other people and what they might say or do. Or are you going to just take the bull by the horns and do what you need to do?’
And that was essentially Derek’s mindset as he sat in his penthouse, waiting for Emily to arrive. What they were doing was risky. Sleeping together so soon after nearly being caught out by his uncle.
But to be quite honest, Derek was getting to the point where he did not care whether or not they were discovered. That was how tired he was. He just wanted Emily to arrive so that the two of them could get some much needed sleep.
That was all.
The rest could worry about itself. At three minutes past nine, there was a knock on the door. And without an audience
to pretend being nonchalant for. Derek was instantly on his feet, and he ran to the door rather than walking.
He wrenched it open with a big smile on his face. Already knowing who was on the other side without even having to check. And sure enough, Derek’s smile was met by Emily’s own blinding one.
"Come in," He said. Derek had barely shut the door when Emily was already throwing herself at him. That took Derek by surprise.
Out of all of the things that they had been through. All of the things that they had overcome from her monthly coming while she was asleep in Derek’s bed. To Derek’s morning wood problem. This was what got Derek to freeze.
A hug.
Emily was hugging him. It was not just a brief ’hello’ hug either. It was long and it was warm. And somehow Derek realized that just as Emily was hugging him, he was hugging her back.
It had been a really long time since he’d held her in his arms. He had missed that. And so the two of them took a few minutes out of their night, just standing in front of the door...hugging. When they finally did detach from one another. It was not so that they could head straight up to the bed and sleep.
No.
Instead, it was to head to the couch and cuddle.
"Have you eaten?" Derek asked.
Emily’s head was pillowed against his chest, their feet rubbing against one another as she lay on top of him.
"Yeah. I grabbed something with my mom before heading here," She told him, and Derek nodded, nearly getting a mouthful of her hair for that.
"Do you want to stay here and cuddle for a bit longer? Or would you rather we just headed upstairs and got ready for bed?" Derek asked. On top of him, Emily tensed, and then she slowly sat up.
"I had nearly forgotten because of all the drama that was going on. But you saying that has just jogged my memory a bit," She told him.
She got off him entirely and then went to the corner of the couch. Grabbing a cushion and holding it in her lap as she looked over at Derek. Realizing that there was bound to be something important that she wanted to discuss, Derek sat up too.
Emily gave him a look and then she ran a hand over the cushion for a bit before saying what she wanted to say.
"Last time you called me staff sergeant..." Out of everything Derek had not expected her to still recall that.
Afterall, they had just spent two weeks away from each other. Stressed all the time, worried that they would be found out at any second. That slip of the tongue should have been the least of her worries. But somehow, Emily had hung on to those two words the entire time. He was in some hot soup. Unless he found a way to dig himself out.
"I did not mean it in a bad way," He began, his mind scrambling for the right words.
"I just meant that- you know-"He gestured at her with his hand, and Emily merely raised a brow.
"As a matter of fact, no, I do not know Derek. What does staff sergeant Emily mean?" With a sigh, Derek decided that in this case, honesty would be the best policy.
"Well, whenever we’re in a situation, like remember that time back at the motel," She nodded, looking a little less angry, so he continued.
"You bring out this... this... staff sergeant," He said.
It was the best way that he could think to describe it.
"You bring out that persona, and all of a sudden everything is being solved. It’s like a superpower. I like it," He said. And the tension slowly leached out of Emily.
"You don’t think it’s bad?" She asked. Derek shrugged.
"Well, when you have me doing things I don’t want to do like carrying luggage, I think it’s bad. But I really do like staff sergeant Emily," I like all of Emily, he thought. But he felt it wise to keep that to himself.
"My mom used to call me the same thing," She said.
And this time it was Derek’s turn to raise a brow.
"Really?" Emily nodded. "Apparently I can be a bit bossy when the going gets tough," This time Derek had to laugh. Bossy was an understatement. Staff sergeant Emily was a force of nature.
"Well, things aren’t tough right now. In fact, they are pretty calm. So how about you give staff sergeant Emily a rest, and just come up to bed with me, as just Emily," Derek said.
She smiled at him, and the two of them got up, headed upstairs. They got ready for bed.
Just the simple act of standing next to Emily as the two of them brushed their teeth felt like having a bit of heaven to Derek. At last, at long last, he thought, and when they finally got into bed. They clung to each other tightly. Never loosening their grips even in sleep..
