Chapter 171: The Story Of Yin And The Fox Guardian {19}
Ava thought her fate was sealed, she has long since accepted death ever since she stepped out of the border... she waited for it and yet begged it to give her time. Time to find her truth and be with William until fate drags her back to Aldon. But the moment his lips pressed against hers gently Ava wished for more.
She longed to be by his side, in his hold, in his arms where she felt protected from anything that might harm her, to stare into his crystal green eyes, and always hear his voice each passing day. She was utterly selfish and wanted things she shouldn’t.
More that can never be given to her if she wanted, she has never wished to truly be with someone not until William. She was scared of her own heart and what it yearns for, its desires for the impossible, something that cannot be no matter how she prayed for it...her fate had been sealed many millennia ago when Aldo cursed her to be with him for eternity.
There was a tied knot to their soul, intertwined and bound by Aldon’s selfish desire. There is nothing that can be done, which only makes it more painful.
"I’m afraid there is nothing I can do for you, young Ava," Basker said and it was only the more shocking reality to them.
But Ava wasn’t surprised by his answer for she knew there was no way but she was more worried about William because each day he was more aggravated by the second. They came to Basker for a solution but there was nothing he could do, even though this place housed knowledge beyond the widest imagination nothing can be done for Ava.
Later that day Basker summoned William.
"William" he began with a serious tone. "What you have gotten yourself into is dangerous"
"What are you trying to say, Basker," William said sternly, not fazed.
"This Aldon is a dangerous being, a balanced nature that went against what he was solely born for, it only leads to chaos and I’m afraid it will destroy everything in its path if it hasn’t already begun"
"I will not let her go back to him. Never" William said with clenched teeth and tightened fists. Basker could clearly see the determination in William’s eyes, and his will to protect Ava even though there was nothing he could do.
"You think the barrier you use around the library can protect her?"
"It will give me enough time"
"Time for what William? There is nothing we can do for her, even if she dies she still goes back to her, that is her fate, her fate intertwined with another"
"I do not care!"
Basker sighed deeply. "Listen to me William, I don’t have much time until my energy is fully gone. You must know this William... You shall know the consequences of what you did! What they will do to you... I will have no control over it, this is now your fate for I warned you!"
William said nothing to Basker’s words, he expected him to say this but did he care? No, he does not care.
"You took what was theirs... And they will bring their wrath!"
"She came to me Basker and I don’t intend in letting her go... let them come, I will destroy Aldon if I have to"
"Child there is nothing you can do, you only exist here and you’re bound to the four walls of this place. I’m afraid whatever you do will not help"
William’s features fell at his words, Basker was right with everything he said but still... William was finding it hard to let go.
"But the look in your eyes tells me you do not plan on giving up," Basker said with a smile on his lips, for seeing William right now was only a reminder of his father when he came in search of power at his doorstep, the look in his eyes was the same Nicklaus had all those years ago... the look that says there was no end to something without trying.
"William" Basker began as his roots were solely crumbling, his energy depleting and his spirit losing its form. "Because of the friendship you created with Ava, your fate is now intertwined with hers"
"Basker," William said with wide eyes watching his mentor slowly crumble.
"That is the answer for what you seek, tied fates can do many things, this is not much but I hope it can help you... Forgive me William for I wasn’t much help to you. The only thing I can do is strengthen the barrier you place with the last of the energy"
"Thank you, Basker," William said with a smile on his lips and then he bowed his head in last respect to the avatar who taught him everything he has ever known.
"I pray you succeed William and find your fairy... and connect with your family" Those were the last of his words as Basker was completely gone and William raised his head and stared at the now empty wall.
It will be strange without Basker, without having the old man scold him and tell him things, but his death was inevitable from the very beginning and William has trained his whole life for it.
William was now the arbiter of the Holy Library, and his heart belonged to this place for eternity, his fate was tied to it.
"Thank you, Basker, and I understand your concerns" his teeth clenched. "But I have to protect her... I have to find a way, it is as you said, my fate is now tied to hers because of our relationship. She has suffered for years and I can’t let it go on, I was unable to do anything and I feel so useless"
A painful truth that ate him from the inside out.
"If I don’t do anything now I will regret it for the rest of my life"
☆☆☆
Ava stood in a sea of fire, her eyes reflecting the destruction that laid forth before her. Unable to move or even breathe until the realization caught her.
She wasn’t burning, so that means this wasn’t real, fire never scared her because she knew someone who wielded it like it was nothing.
"Aldon," she said and the fire flapped and parted a long path that led to a figure standing with his back facing towards her, Ava knew without a doubt that was Aldon.
"Aveline" his voice came and it was trembling. "Why did you leave me?" He faces her with tears streaming down his cheeks and Ava was unfazed by it... instead, anger boils through her hotter than the flames themselves.
"You lied to me all my life, told me we made a promise but rather you cursed me!"
He shook his head. "You weren’t supposed to find out that way Aveline, you won’t understand that I-"
"You forced me to choose you! I only wanted my peace Aldon and yet you took it away from me for your own selfish desires!"
"It wasn’t a selfish desire!" he yelped and the flames responded to his anger by increasing in height. "We love each other, Aveline"
He was completely delusional, blinded by love, a love that was clearly one-sided, when did it all go wrong? She never reciprocated his feelings in any way or gave him the wrong idea. He simply fell in love with her and wanted her so badly that he went against his very nature and destroyed his once pure soul.
Right now looking at him with the distressed look in his eyes almost like he has gone mad, Ava could only pity him.
"I’m not worth your love, Aldon, or everything you have done to get this far. We would have disappeared in peace but rather you burned us into this curse"
"This is not a curse, my star, this is a blessing"
"No" Ava shook her head as tears slid down her cheeks. "A bond without a choice is a curse"
He scowled deeply. "You shouldn’t have left me, Aveline, you shouldn’t have... we would have talked and come to an understanding, and yet you left... now long at what you caused"
Aveline paused before her eyes took in the burning environment and the realization struck her like a heavy wave.
"No" she panicked, looking around, the familiar landscape. This was Aethel but it was gone. "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!"
"I-I couldn’t control it, I let it take over, I was lost without you and I couldn’t think,"
"YOU MONSTER!" she roared at him at the top of her lungs, pain burning through her.
"Come back to me Aveline and I will make it better, just tell me where you are please?"
"How could you?!" she broke and fell to her knees. "You destroyed our home, you destroyed everything, mother, father, and everyone, children, elders, you wiped everyone out!" She broke, mourning the loss of her people.
With sad eyes, Aldon walked to her and kneel before her. "I will make it all better"
Aveline raised her red eyes to him. "Nothing will ever be better..."
"No no don’t say that... as long as I have you" he took her hand and she gasped at the sudden contact, this was the last thing she wanted for Aldon to touch her because if he did he will...
"Who is William?!" His expression was fast changing and the once sad eyes he held were now replaced with raw anger.
