Chapter 160: The Story Of Yin And The Fox Guardian {8}

Aveline wasted no time in searching around the room for anything at all, anything that can explain why she was subjected to such a chained fate. She never considered it a chained fate, it was meant to be a purpose, meant to be something she was born for, appeal to it without any questions because it was meant to be.

But now it just felt like a curse branded on her skin, a skin she was now revolted with, because each time she felt his hand crawling on it she felt like gagging, his touch sickened her, and a feeling like worms were moving around her body. Her own soulmate touch felt like a leech to her skin. There must be some explanation for this... because Aveline understood the concept of soulmate very well.

Her mother and father were an example of that, they were brothers and sisters. Siblings were meant to be mates in the Elven society, that is the way for many centuries now, a way of keeping the bloodline pure.

Being Aldon’s sibling she is meant to be his mate and also because of their past life as Yin and Yang, a life she has no recall of.

Aveline opened the drawers searching through them and also making sure Aldon didn’t stir, she was thankful he was a heavy sleeper, to begin with, she has replaced the position she was supposed to lay on with a pillow and he hugged it like it was the only thing keeping him on earth, he won’t be awake any time soon, he is distracted enough.

Aveline wasn’t searching blindly, she has grown up with Aldon for years and knew he has a habit of writing in his journal, it was practice for him for he was born with all memories from the past, and in order not to be consumed by it he was told to write it on a special journal.

It didn’t take long before Aveline found it in a space that only she could find and she grabbed a lantern and walked to their study room, with a few books, and sat on the chair placing the black book embodied with a leaf-like silver design on the table. Aveline knew everything in this book, for he has told her stories about their past life. But.... she has only heard from Aldon and not seen the journal for herself, so definitely there must be something here that can offer up an explanation.

Aveline reached for it in an attempt to untie the black rope around it but it wouldn’t bulge, which could only mean that he had sealed it with magic.

’I thought we don’t hide anything from each other’ Aveline thought sternly, this could only mean he was definitely hiding something. She gulped, placing her palm on it and mumbling several Elven languages that have to do with ’Open’ but it wouldn’t shift.

Aveline sighed, wondering what Aldon could have possibly used to seal this, it was so important that he went to such extreme lengths for it, she can’t even think of anything at all.

So she said the name ’Star’ that he has given her but to no avail, nothing that even connected her to him. There was nothing she could do now, but that doesn’t mean she will just give up, she was very certain this journal will hold all the answers she needed if she can’t open it here then...

An idea instantly popped into her head, it was a very risky one but Aveline has no other choice, for she knew she can’t go through any of this, she can’t bear to be forever bound by someone she doesn’t even feel anything for. So grabbing the journal she walked to the room, changing her gown and adding a hooded cloak on top, grabbing a leaf-style bag and keeping the book within it, making sure she took some things she could carry. Before leaving the room she took one look at Aldon soundly asleep.

She tore her eyes away and rushed down the stairs, there will be guards but that doesn’t mean she can’t sneak out of them, she has her way.

Using a passage only she and Aldon knew, because they normally use it to sneak out and ride in the night, Aveline was out of the tower.

"Aveline"

She instantly halted her steps at the voice. "F-Father," she says without turning. Her nerves spiked, did he know she was trying to run away?

"Aveline," he said once again but like an urge for her to face him and she did so tortuously slowly, and her glassy eyes met with her fathers, her father has the same vermilion eyes as hers, but his own were mostly like a flame brown.

His eyes scanned her attire and it was obvious what she was about to do.

"What you do is risky Aveline... this choice you make, tomorrow is your engagement with Aldon"

"I can’t, Father" She shook her head, just the mere thought of it spiked terror into her very body. "I cannot bear through this... it will be hell"

His looks turned sad and he inhaled sharply. "Ever since Aldon was born we were able to sense the great energy he has, the Yang vitality and we knew it was a blessing, I have watched him grow and..." he paused with a gulp. "One day, I was looking for him, your mother was pregnant with you then... and he just mysteriously disappeared but I knew where I could find him, he was always at the top of the valley. You two spent a lot of time there. When I found him he had his back turned to me... And when I placed my palm on his shoulder and turned him to face me I saw his hands were covered in blood"

Aveline shuddered, she has never heard this story.

"The birds in the trees we kept in a wood-crafted house, apparently he stomp on them all"

"W-Why did you never tell me this? Or Mother?"

"I made a choice that day, Aveline, a risky one... I noticed something was off with my own son but I was too blinded by the fact that he was a blessing to accept that anything he did was right. It had to be right"

"Alwin and the others, Alwin and his brothers who bullied me years ago, were never killed by an animal were they?" she asked, already knowing the answer to the question for this story her father just told her was like a skeleton in a cupboard.

And his silence was all the answer she needed.

"You knew and you never told me, you knew about Aldon being misguided, and you-"

"I watch him, Aveline, I trained him as best as I could, he was the perfect son, and you were the perfect daughter, you two were a blessing"

"But he became something we never expected or maybe it was what he is from the beginning," Aveline said. "My eyes feel it, I have seen it many many times, and just like you... I was blinded because he is Aldon, my mate, my brother, and my entirety"

"Aveline"

"You have to let me go, Father, I need the truth,"

He gulped. "And where would you find your truth?

"A place where Aldon and I created in the past, a place where we gathered all the cruelty and inbound it into things called Grimoire, the first knowledge of the world,"

His eyes went wide. "Aveline... only your soul can cross through the barrier"

"And my body can" she interjected.

"It will slowly kill you!"

"I rather die with a short lifespan than spend eternity with a man who touches me unjustly"

At the last of her words, horror filled her father’s eyes.

"Let me go father" she breathed.

"This is all my fault if I had taught him more, look after you more then-"

"You did all you could Father and I appreciate you and Mother, thank you" Those were Aveline’s last words to her father as she turned on her heels and walked away, the tears falling on their own accord. But there was no going back now.

Aveline went deeper into the forest before whistling and calling Star to come to her and she wasted no time in answering her call. Aveline covered her head with her hood and climbed on Star, telling her to run in Elven language and she did with speed.

They wasted no time in reaching the border.

"Will you go through this with me, Star? It might affect you too"

She neighed at her words.

"Thank you star, you’re truly a good friend"

Aveline knew even though she told Star to stay she wouldn’t listen.

Star neighed.

"Let’s do this," she said, taking a deep breath. This was different from the rest of the time she has traveled outside the border in her spirit. Right now she is going with her body too... and it will come at a cost.

Her life

The life of an Elven was subjected to this plane. If she lives, it will change everything. Knowing all that fully well, she and Star passed through the barrier.
