Chapter 86: Chapter 86
Russel felt that he was at his limit, but he still wanted to prove to Jasmin that he was good enough to be her partner.
"I—I will try to get more!" Russel said as he grabbed his fishing net again. But before he could leave, Jasmin held his wrist and said, "You’ve done a good job. These are enough to win us the game."
"A—Are you sure? I only caught a tuna and a lobster..."
"Yeah, I’m sure," Jasmin assured. "Now go dry yourself. I’m going to win this game."
Jasmin’s confidence was quite shocking. She washed her hands and picked up the lobster first. She grabbed the suitable knife and cut the lobster skillfully, much to Madeline’s shock.
"Jasmin, can you cook?" Madeline asked.
"Ah, I’ve never told you before, but I worked in a seafood restaurant while I started my rapping career back then," Jasmin said. "So I’m confident that I can beat you, girl."
That last sentence sent Madeline into incredible joy. She wanted to thank God for giving her such a perfect scenario because she didn’t need to fake her incompetence too much.
But of course, she still acted arrogant right now: "Hmph, I don’t need any cooking experience to make something good. I am Madeline Rose. I can make... uh... sushi or something."
Madeline patted Zane’s arm and said, "Thanks for helping me, babe. I will cook something out of these... whatever you give me. Go get a rest."
Zane couldn’t hide his smile. Even though he knew he’d lose against the other team, at least Madeline was happy with what he gave.
He glanced at Lance and smirked, taunting him with the implication that he, not the Mr. Richboy who set her up for failure, was actually the man preferred by Madeline.
But Lance couldn’t bother with that bastard right now. He was far more concerned about Madeline, who looked so clueless at the cooking table.
Madeline began acting confused, as if she knew nothing about these fish.
But her eyes glanced at Lance, who stood right in front of her with Valerie.
"Ah, darn it, how to cut this? Which knife?" Madeline scratched her head like a clueless bimbo. She clumsily grabbed one of the fish Zane caught and tried to chop it with a knife.
Lance crossed his arms, silently observing Madeline, and the moment Madeline started playing with the knife, his body jolted as if he wanted to stop the filming and tell Madeline not to use any sharp objects.
"We should stop the filming. She might get hurt," Lance whispered to Valerie out of concern. "Just look at how she holds that knife."
"Are you kidding? The filming is about to end, just let her be. We have a medical team in case something goes wrong," Valerie said.
"I will let that medical team treat you first if something happens to my woman, you dumbass," Lance threatened.
They were about to argue, but fortunately, Madeline finally stopped playing with the knives and turned on the stove.
Meanwhile, Jasmin was so fast and effective at her table.
"Girl, you should’ve been in Masterchef, not this reality show!" Madeline yelled as she was trying to pan-fry the piece of tuna meat.
"Hahah, they don’t accept a former drug addict like me," Jasmin said lightly. "But it’s alright. I can meet you here, so I’m grateful."
"Awww," Madeline giggled. "Well, you will still lose. Because whatever fancy seafood you’re cooking right now won’t win against my purely homemade food. Right, Chef Wayan?"
"Y—Yeah," Chef Wayan chuckled nervously.
The time passed, and they were finally done with their craft.
Zane and Russel returned to their women’s sides, and the judge walked to their tables.
"So, what do we have here?" Chef Wayan asked Madeline.
"Uh, pan-fried tuna. That’s all," Madeline said. "I mean, it looks ugly, but I’m sure it tastes wonderful!"
Chef Wayan took a small bite using the fork and tried to swallow the food. He coughed as the fish’s oiliness and burnt flavor overwhelmed him. It looked more like coal than seafood at this point. "W—Well, that’s an interesting homemade dish."
"Of course, and don’t you dare not to beat me. Mine’s obviously better than Jasmin’s," Madeline threatened.
"W—We will see..."
Chef Wayan walked to the next table and was awed by the beautiful presentation of the food. "Wow, this looks appetizing. Can you tell me what this is?"
"Stuffed Lobster—or Lobster Thermidor, and also Seared Tuna with Wasabi Sauce," Jasmin said confidently.
"The wasabi sauce, I’m not too keen with a burning sensation in my throat," Chef Wayan said.
"Worry not, Chef. I’ve made sure to tone down the taste. That’s why I make it into a sauce," Jasmin said.
"Hmm..." Chef Wayan took a bite of each food Jasmin made. He closed his eyes and nodded with a smile. "You give both a fresh umami taste that I like so much. The wasabi is not burning my throat; it has a somewhat tangy taste to it. The lobster is also perfectly cooked."
Chef Wayan opened his eyes and said, "You did a great job."
"Thank you, Chef."
"Alright, Chef Wayan has tasted each dish, and it’s time for him to announce the winner!" Tia said. "Come and stand beside him. Let’s see who will win the Summer Heat Lovers first season!"
"Obviously, I will," Madeline claimed. "I’ve saved Jasmin twice in a row. It’d be a crime if I lost, right, Zane?"
"You’re right, babe," Zane chuckled.
Chef Wayan stood in the middle and held Madeline and Jasmin’s hands on each side, ready to announce the obvious winner.
"So, the winner of the Summer Heat Lovers is.....!" Tia prolonged the winner announcement. She glanced at the crew, waiting for the sign to go on with the announcement as they were preparing the confetti.
After getting the ’okay’ sign, Tia smiled and repeated, "The winner of the Summer Heat Lovers is—!"
Chef Wayan lifted Jasmin’s hand, and Tia quickly announced it.
"Jasmin Fox and Russel Brooks!"
With that, the confetti popped, and the cameras zoomed at Russel and Jasmin, who were celebrating their victory by hugging each other tightly.
However, amidst the celebration, Madeline suddenly blurted, "What a fucking phony. I should’ve won."
