Chapter 80: Chapter 80

"... Do you love him that much?" Zane asked. "Do you love him to the point that your mind will filter out all the shitty things he has done to you?"

"No," Madeline denied. If she could be honest, she didn’t have enough time to judge Lance’s character completely. But she would rather stay for the money that Lance offered than have to go into another tumultuous relationship with a man similar to Jon.

"Zane, even if I’m single, I probably wouldn’t date you either."

"Why? Am I that repulsive to you?"

"No, stop calling yourself repulsive. You are perfect," Madeline replied. "But you’re too similar to my ex, that bastard who ruined my life, Jonathan Hale."

"But I’m not him," Zane insisted. "I’m not married. Hell, I’m not even dating anyone right now! If there’s one person who’d likely do the same shit that Jon did to you, then it’s your boyfriend."

"Then I’d break up with him the moment he did that to me," Madeline said. ’But is it even possible? Since he’s the one who decides when to end the contract between us.’

"Zane, I don’t want to talk about this anymore. I feel terrible for rejecting a perfect man like you..." Madeline said. "So let’s just get this night over with so we can resume our role on the reality show."

Madeline wanted to walk away, but Zane grabbed her hand and embraced her.

She didn’t have the chance to react before Zane suddenly kissed her and hugged her deeper.

She struggled for a bit until Zane finally released her because she was out of breath.

Madeline’s face was flushed. She stared at Zane with eyes filled with tears, "W—What are you doing?!"

"I don’t know when I can kiss you again after this. So I want my fill," Zane said. He stared back at Madeline solemnly. "I know that you’re hesitating, maybe because of your experience with Jon or because you can’t let go of your boyfriend. But I promise—"

"—I promise that one day, you will eventually choose me over other men in your life!"

They finished their night and returned with the staff to the resort. Madeline had a headache with Zane because he was so upfront with his affection, and Madeline simply didn’t understand why.

Was it because she was beautiful? But no matter how beautiful she was, Zane must’ve seen someone even more ethereal out there. He’s a Hollywood A-list actor, after all.

Other than that, Madeline didn’t think she had any other qualities that would make Zane fall in love. She was probably the most hated woman on earth right now, so she didn’t understand his attraction.

"So, how’s the date, babe?" Jasmin giggled as she opened the door for her friend.

"I don’t want to talk about it..." Madeline said as she entered the bungalow and threw herself on the bed.

"Did you suddenly get your period during the date or what?" Jasmin asked as she sat on the bed next to Madeline. "Or did Zane trip and pull your dress out?"

"Don’t be ridiculous, Jasmin," Madeline scowled. "Zane confessed, and he seems very serious about his feelings for me."

"... and?"

"And I don’t know how to handle this," Madeline said. "He’s very pushy. He really doesn’t take no for an answer."

"Did you tell him that you have a boyfriend already?"

"I did."

"And he’s still not giving up?"

"No," Madeline sighed. "But I can’t blame him. He knows that my boyfriend is... a scum."

"Then why are you still with him? Zane is a much better choice, right?"

Madeline looked at Jasmin, who looked worried about her. She wanted to keep her relationship with Lance a secret since it was just a contract.

But she also felt vulnerable right now. She wanted her friend to listen.

So Madeline held Jasmin’s hand and asked, "Can I trust you with my boyfriend’s identity?"

"Should I tell you about my life before you trust me?" Jasmin asked back. She put her other hand on Madeline’s and added, "Madeline, I’ve been treated horribly by people around me, and you are my only friend, so telling everything in my life will make you trust me more..."

"You can tell me when you’re ready..." Madeline sighed. "My boyfriend is the same man who told the staff to set up all the hidden cameras in our bungalow, Lancelot Grant."

Jasmin almost jumped out of bed when she heard, "Wait, you told me he’s the investor, right? So you’re dating the investor of this reality show?!"

Madeline nodded.

"Oh, damn... no wonder you’re so angry at it," Jasmin said.

"I was betrayed by my boyfriend because he wanted a good reaction and contentment for the reality show he invested in. He’s a scum."

"And you’re an idiot for picking him instead of Zane." Jasmin fanned the fire even more. "He’s a scum with no moral ground. I could turn lesbian just thinking about a man like that."

"...I can’t leave him, Jasmin," Madeline said. ’Mostly because of the contract, but also because I want to feel that firework in my head again...’

"Damn, are you that in love with him? How handsome is he compared to Zane?"

"They are both eye candy, if that’s what you want to know."

"Tsk and I guess he’s richer as well." Jasmin bit her lower lip, thinking of a way to convince Madeline that she should choose someone who would treat her right. "But look at Zane. He’s really trying his best to impress you in this reality show. He won two games for you and did everything that you say. There’s no way your scum boyfriend can top that unless he flies across the globe to Bali just to pick you up. He needs to show that he wants you too!"

"Hah, that’s impossible," Madeline chuckled at the idea. "He’s too self-centered to do that."

"Then I don’t see any reason to stay with your current boyfriend," Jasmin shrugged. "But that’s up to you, Maddy. I’ll still support you no matter what... and probably beat up your boyfriend if he dares to pull out some stupid stunt again."
