Chapter 70: Chapter 70

[Song Recommendation: Doja Cat - Paint The Town Red.]

Madeline followed the shoe prints to the shallow pond and saw another car toy with blue wheels at the corner of the pond.

She thought Jasmin must’ve picked up the car toy from this same spot, but the shoe prints continued into the shallow pond, so Jasmin must’ve dipped her feet into the pond to pick up all the car toys.

"Did she put one here for me? Aw, how sweet!" Madeline smiled. She picked up the car toy and returned to the baby monkey brothers.

She handed the car toy to one of them, and the baby monkey happily handed the last clue to Madeline.

"Got it!"

The forest ranger approached her again after Madeline got the last clue.

"Congratulations, Miss. I thought you’d never find it," she said. "The woman girl handed the car toys to the monkeys, and after she got what she needed, she snatched the toys back and threw them into that pond. She was so cruel."

"And how about the second one?" Madeline asked.

"The second woman searched for a long time and found the toy cars inside the pond. She gave one to the monkey and put the other near the pond. Are you her friend?" The forest ranger asked. "She said it’s for her friend, so she wouldn’t need to dip into the pond."

Madeline smiled and said, "Yes, I am her friend."

Madeline was grateful for Jasmin because she would have had difficulty finding the car toys without her help.

’I need to do something for her,’ Madeline thought as she completed her map.

With the completed map, she could finally read everything.

Monkey sees no evil.

Under that sentence, the map pointed at a temple called the Thousand Monkeys Temple. So that was where she had to go for her final destination.

Thus, Madeline followed the signposts and finally reached the temple.

"Wow, this place is amazing," Madeline muttered as she entered the temple with dozens of monkey statues in various styles and poses.

She looked around the dozens of monkey statues and wondered, "Ok, so what should I do next?"

Madeline checked the clue and realized the sentence on the top of the map must’ve meant something.

"Monkey sees no evil..." Madeline mumbled. "Sees no evil—OH!"

Madeline had a lightbulb moment when she realized what the riddle was all about. She quickly inspected the monkey statues one by one to find the ones she needed.

After fifteen minutes of searching, she finally found the statue she had been looking for.

A monkey statue grinning while covering its eyes.

Madeline picked it up, and a key simply dropped to the floor.

"There you go," Madeline chuckled while pocketing her key to save Zane.

She knew that she should’ve returned to the staff by the game standard and saved Zane.

But she had another idea that was far more effective in ensuring her and Jasmin’s victory.

"If I get the ’see no evil monkey’, then Jasmin and Bertha must’ve gotten the ’hear and speak no evil monkey’, respectively. So why don’t I grab their keys instead?" Madeline said, just to make sure that the cameraman knew her true intention.

She began searching for the two remaining statues and pocketed all the keys once she found them.

Madeline stared at the camera as she sat on the steps, waiting for Jasmin and Bertha to come and get their keys.

"I wonder what they are up to right now," Madeline wondered.

Meanwhile, Jasmin had just finished searching for the damned toy cars that Bertha threw into the shallow pond. Her shoes got all muddy, but at least she could help Madeline by putting one of the toy cars near the pond so she didn’t need to jump into the pond like her.

Jasmin walked to the spot to get her last clue, and to her surprise, she saw Bertha acting like a crazed and hysterical woman, screaming at the top of her lungs while shaking the banana tree.

"FUCK YOU, MADELINE ROSE! AAHHHHHHHH!!!!"

Bertha’s scream forced the megabats to fly away out of fear. She was like a banshee that would probably eat humans if hungry.

Even her cameraman distanced himself out of fear.

"What the fuck is happening in here?" Jasmin asked as she approached Bertha without fear. "Why are you acting nuts, Bertha?"

Bertha stopped screaming. She glared at Jasmin and yelled, "This is because of your fucking bitch friend! She must’ve done something to make the puzzle harder!"

"And what’s wrong with that? You also did the same," Jasmin said while pointing at her shoes. "You forced me to enter a shallow pond, you dumbass!"

Bertha was too angry and frustrated to care about that. She was just angry because she couldn’t figure out the puzzle at this place.

"Check your paper. It’s a bat eating a papaya," Bertha said. "But I don’t see any megabats eating papaya. They are all eating bananas!"

"And have you checked the papayas?" Jasmin asked.

Bertha showed her hand, which was full of sticky papaya juice. "I fucking squeezed them all and found nothing!"

"See? This is why you shouldn’t befriend Madeline. She’s a snake! She makes everyone’s life harder!" Bertha yelled frustratedly. She had lost all of her composure after spending so much time in this god-forsaken place filled with giant bats.

"Hmm..." Jasmin knew that Madeline liked to play this trick to make the game harder, but she knew that Madeline would still play by the rules.

So, Jasmin knew the key was in the papayas.

She walked towards the papaya tree and saw that all the ripe papayas had been eaten in half by either the megabats or smashed to the ground by Bertha.

So that left the unripe papaya untouched.

Jasmin walked around the papaya tree and noticed a red circle underneath the unripe papaya.

She touched it, and after finding out it was mushy, she pushed her finger in. After she pulled it out, the plastic tube fell to the floor.

"Oh, that’s so damn easy," Jasmin said.

Bertha turned her head, and her eyes widened at the plastic tube on the ground. She saw Jasmin was bending over, about to pick up the plastic tube, so she quickly charged toward her and tackled her until Jasmin fell on her butt.

"Ouch!"

Bertha snatched the plastic tube and ran away while laughing, "Thanks for the clue, you fat bitch!"
