Chapter 71: Chapter 71
Jasmin stared at Bertha, who ran away while trying to open the plastic tube.
She was surprised at how deranged Bertha looked right now. She was so frustrated over such a simple puzzle that it only took Jasmin five minutes to figure it out.
"Fucking mental," Jasmin complained as she got up and patted her butt and hands. She poked the last unripe papaya and picked up the plastic tube.
Once she obtained her last clue, she merged them and rushed to the monkey temple before Bertha could finish her last game.
"Hopefully, Madeline is already there, or maybe I have to help her somehow," Jasmin said while taking quick steps.
**
Madeline yawned, as she had been waiting for at least fifteen more minutes.
The sun started to get hotter, and she wondered, "I wonder if Zane’s okay right now."
Madeline was worried, but she knew she couldn’t just leave. There was a chance that Bertha would come earlier than Jasmin, and she didn’t want to leave her friend.
Luckily, as she kept waiting, Jasmin ran towards Madeline and shouted her name, "MADELINE!"
Madeline lifted her head and ran towards Jasmin. "Jasmin!"
"What are you doing here? You should rush to save Zane!" Jasmin said as they gave each other a quick hug.
"No, I’m waiting for you," Madeline said.
"Then let me find my key first—"
"No, I already found it for you," Madeline said as she took out one key from her pocket. "The puzzle isn’t difficult, so I retrieved all the keys."
"All? Including Bertha’s?" Jasmin asked while accepting the key.
"Yep," Madeline chuckled. "That’s why I’m also waiting for you and for her. I will give them a show they will never forget."
**
Meanwhile, Bertha was pulling her hair as she was so frustrated at the snake charmer, who didn’t speak a word but kept on staring at her like she was an idiot.
"How many times do I have to tell you? THIS IS THE FUCKING SNAKE!" Bertha yelled frustratedly. She showed the clue to the snake charmer and pointed at it, "See this? This is a red tail! With T and K, that means Tioman Kukri snake, right? Then let me take a picture of it or something—I don’t fucking now, just let me touch it!"
...
The snake charmer said nothing, but he pitied this woman, who looked incredibly frustrated. So he tried to give her a clue by glancing at another snake cage where the real Tioman Kukri had been switched.
But Bertha didn’t understand the hint. She was on the verge of breaking down with frustration, anger, and the feeling of defeat.
Because she knew damn well that Madeline and Jasmin must’ve gotten all the clues by now.
"Just fucking take the snake out for me!"
...
The snake charmer shook his head, giving another hint, because that wasn’t the correct snake. But Bertha thought Madeline had charmed this man.
Thus, she glared at the snake charmer and pointed to his face. "You—what did Madeline do to make you work with her?"
"... sorry, Miss?" The snake charmer frowned as he got confused.
"Don’t fucking try to hide it from me. Madeline is a snake, a slut who used so many men! She used Zane, and now she used an ugly snake charmer just to make the game harder for me! What a fucking bitch!" Bertha yelled like a madwoman.
She didn’t care about her image anymore because she was overwhelmed with defeat at this point.
The snake charmer knew well that Bertha was accusing and mocking his appearance. He got angry instantly, so he looked at the cameraman and said, "I don’t want to help anymore."
The snake charmer handed the clues to the cameraman, and things turned awkward when he simply left.
Bertha stopped yelling. She stared at the cameraman. "What should I do then?"
The cameraman was exhausted from having to follow this hysterical woman. He took the job because he thought he could follow Madeline instead, because she was so gorgeous in real life.
But luck wasn’t on his side.
"I’ll call the Director first."
The cameraman put his camera down and called the Director. It was a quick call, and after confirming it, he simply handed the last clue to Bertha. "Since the other two reached the final spot far earlier than you, the Director said to just hand you the last clue. Don’t throw a tantrum anymore. It hurts my ears."
Bertha’s anger disappeared instantly when she got the last clue. She smiled sweetly at the cameraman, who looked nonchalant. "Thank you so much. I will finish the game now."
After Bertha pieced all the clues together, she went to the final place, The Thousand Monkeys Temple.
Bertha ran to the temple with a big smile on her face. She didn’t care about winning at this point. She just wanted to get this over with.
But the moment she arrived at the temple, her smile vanished instantly because she saw Madeline and Jasmin sitting while chatting at the steps as if they hadn’t just made her life miserable.
"Oh, look who’s finally here," Jasmin said, and Madeline giggled in response.
"You look so pitiful, Bertha. Maybe you should take a deep breath and sit with us here," Madeline offered.
Bertha ignored them. She was actually glad that Madeline and Jasmin wasted their time here, so she still had a chance to win this game.
Bertha rushed to the temple and searched for the key. She only got one clue: Monkey Speaks No Evil.
As she was searching frantically, Madeline stood up and said, "Are you searching for this, Bertha?"
Bertha turned and saw Madeline dangling the key in front of her face. She smirked evilly and added, "The puzzle is so easy, so I found your key... accidentally, of course."
"GIVE ME THAT!" Bertha rushed towards Madeline, but before she could grab it, Jasmin protected Madeline by standing before her.
"What the—you’re cheating! You’re stealing MY key!"
"I’m not stealing. I just accidentally found it." Madeline winked behind Jasmin’s back. "But it’s fine. I’m about to give it to you, anyway."
