Chapter 53: Chapter 53
Zane stared at Madeline, who was busy checking every corner with great interest.
"Is this your way to protect my privacy?" Zane asked.
"Don’t be stupid. You’re a Hollywood Megastar. You can spit in a cup and sell it in an auction for an easy million dollars."
"You’re exaggerating it," Zane said.
Madeline stopped searching. She turned her head at Zane and stared at him as if he had just said something incredibly idiotic.
"You’re underestimating yourself, Mr. Eastwood. You have been the face of Vogue magazine for so many times."
"It was a contract for a few issues, nothing special," Zane replied.
"You’ve starred in seven box office movies, and all of them exploded!"
"That’s just a stroke of luck."
"Tsk, you have almost one hundred million followers on Instagram!"
"But I’m not very active on Instagram," Zane continued, denying his achievement over and over, much to Madeline’s annoyance.
"Whatever, Mr. Humble, go help me search for the hidden cameras they put in here!" Madeline ordered. She was so overbearing, but that didn’t anger him at all.
Instead, Zane stared fondly at the beautiful lady in front of him and said, "Sure thing, babe."
Just as Madeline expected, she found three audio-taping devices and two hidden cameras aimed directly at the bed so the production staff could record everything they did at night.
"I didn’t expect you to be right," Zane said. "This is crazy."
"It’s not crazy. My boyfriend has prepared everything, and I know damn well he will pull this shit again," Madeline said as she pulled all the hidden cameras and audio taping, then threw it to the sea from the window.
She closed the window and sat on the bed to calm down. "That man needs to realize that not everything is for entertainment."
"So you were fighting with him because of this?"
"Obviously," Madeline replied. "He lied to me about this reality show. He said there’d be no water scene because I can’t take my makeup off, and there’d be no camera inside my bungalow."
"And he lied about both?
"Surprise, surprise!" Madeline rolled her eyes. "He’s such a prick, seriously."
"So, why are you still with him?" Zane asked. He sat beside Madeline on the bed. "Don’t say you have no choice. You have a choice, Maddy."
Zane had called her Maddy a few times already, and she always felt a bit uncomfortable with it. Because it implied that they were close before this show, even though their last contact was thirteen years ago, and Madeline didn’t believe that Zane still remembered her after so long.
Nevertheless, this was a perfect opportunity to release her stress.
Without any recording device around, Madeline should be able to show her true self in front of Zane.
’I need one more ally for this reality show. Since this man doesn’t seem hostile towards me, it’s better to treat him like Jasmin. Be his friend and take advantage of it.’
’If he agrees to be my ally, it’d be great. But if he gets turned off by the real me...’ Madeline’s heart sank as she had to be prepared for the worst. ’Then I will find a way to kick him out of this show for Jasmin’s smooth road to victory.’
"What kind of choice do I have?" Madeline sneered. "My boyfriend is the only one who helps me when I’m in shambles. Believe it or not, I’m not some rich girl from a posh family. I’m just a regular girl whose career was cut short because of a stupid scandal I was unaware of."
Zane went silent, staring at Madeline, who was telling her life story.
Though he already knew almost 90% of it, he wanted Madeline to open up so they could get closer.
"I didn’t know that my ex-boyfriend had a wife and child back then. How am I supposed to know when he never told me anything?" Madeline began to rant. No matter how often she ranted about this, she would never get tired of it, just like how she would never forgive Jon for ruining her life while getting out of this scandal scot-free.
If she had to burn in hell, then she wouldn’t rest until she dragged him with her.
"So here I am, playing a bitchy character just to get some headlines, so I can make some money to live," Madeline said grimly.
Whenever she was reminded of how sad her reality was, she realized she probably had to keep this persona for the rest of her life.
She would get hate forever, but she had to do it for the family she loved.
"So..." Madeline put her hand on Zane’s thigh and rubbed it gently.
Zane’s body stiffened immediately, thinking Madeline wanted to spend the night with him.
Unfortunately, Madeline simply gave him an apologetic smile and said, "I’m sorry I’ve been very rude to you since yesterday. I didn’t mean it, and I’m grateful you accepted me as your partner and won the game. Without you, I’d get eliminated instantly."
"Then, can I get a reward for that?" Zane asked hurriedly, not wanting to miss the opportunity. His breath quickened, and he looked like a hungry and horny dog right now.
"What kind of reward? The kisses from yesterday weren’t enough?"
"Of course not," Zane replied. He sized Madeline from head to toe, and he gulped. He was a man who could rarely get incited, but Madeline was seriously gorgeous, so he couldn’t resist her.
Madeline identified that look easily. Her cheeks reddened as she quickly pulled her hand, "W—We can’t do that."
"Why not?"
"Because I have a boyfriend," Madeline said. "Ever heard a word called faithful?’
"The boyfriend that sets you up to suffer in this show?" Zane sneered. "The boyfriend who lied to you as well? You know you can do better than that."
"B—But—"
Zane held Madeline’s hand and squeezed it tight. "You have a lot of choices, including this man in front of you. I can love you better than he can, Madeline."
