Chapter 52: Chapter 52

Madeline listened to it a few more times, and her face gradually reddened each time. She didn’t expect Lance to actually say such sweet and assuring words in his voice note.

She thought he would curse at her for breaking their contract or maybe call her a slut for two-timing him, though they weren’t even dating in the first place.

She also thought getting called baby by Lance felt different than when she got called ’babe’ by Zane.

Madeline felt her body melting into a puddle of goo when she heard how Lance had pleaded with her not to sleep with Zane.

’Dummy, of course, I won’t do that. I’m not an easy woman who’d sleep with a man I barely know,’ Madeline told herself. ’Besides, I’m pretty sure Zane won’t do that as well. He is an A-list Hollywood megastar. He wouldn’t end his own acting career for a super hated mega-bitch like me.’

Madeline giggled as she listened to the recording once more. The last sentence from Lance was enough to make her feel like she had been lifted to heaven.

-

"I, Lancelot Atlas Grant, will be the best boyfriend you will ever have. I promise."

’Gosh, why do I act like a high school girl in love? We barely know each other, and almost all our conversations are about business anyway,’ Madeline wondered.

It was strange, but after that one kiss with Lance in his office, something in her brain chemistry changed, making her wonder when she would get another kiss from Lance.

’It makes me wonder if this is just a stupid drunk’s ramble or if he’s hurt seeing me with Zane,’ Madeline pondered for a moment. ’Oh well, only time will tell. But for now, I’ll just focus on the competition.’

Zane was watching her the whole time; he still had his smile, but that smile began to falter each time Madeline giggled because he knew damn well that Madeline wasn’t giggling for him but for another man.

Zane checked with the cameraman and realized he hadn’t recorded them since Madeline got a three-way call from the Producer and her boyfriend.

So he asked, "Was it your boyfriend again?"

"Ah—uhm... y—yeah," Madeline nodded shyly. "He apologized, and... well, I guess I can’t stay angry for a long time."

"I’m curious about this man," Zane said. By this time, his smile had been wiped out of his face. He was a patient man, but he could get jealous occasionally.

"Maybe I can tell you once we’re all alone," Madeline said while pointing at the cameraman and the staff in the car.

"Right, can’t wait to spend the night with you, babe."

"Aww, come on now," Madeline patted his arm playfully. "We don’t need to use that when the camera isn’t rolling. Relax."

"But I still want to call you Babe, whether there is a camera or not," Zane said boldly, and the staff behind them gasped at the same time.

Zane ignored them. His eyes were staring straight at Madeline, waiting for her response.

"Well, if you say so, we can familiarize ourselves," Madeline said. She was so happy to receive a voice note from Lance just now that she didn’t even care about staying in character.

Besides, the camera isn’t rolling right now. Nobody would know about her true self other than the people in this car.

Zane said nothing after that. But his eyes were like a hawk, watching Madeline repeat the voice note as if it were the sweetest thing she ever heard.

’Well, this is unpleasant,’ Zane thought.

Madeline and Zane had dinner before they finally drove to the special bungalow designed for a honeymoon couple.

They walked through a long wooden bridge to their overwater bungalow, which looked heavenly from afar. Tia, the host, greeted them, wearing a pink dress this time.

There were a few film crew behind her, ready to shoot the couple’s ’honeymoon.’

Madeline quickly reached to hold Zane’s hand and put up her usual arrogant face, as if she were done with everything in this place.

"Welcome to your special honeymoon bungalow!" Tia said cheerfully. "This place is quite far from the other bungalow, so you can go wild in this place, and nobody will hear a thing!"

"You have snacks and beverages in the minibar. I don’t think you two will bother about that minibar when you have something else to do tonight, right?" Tia winked. "Anyway, don’t worry about anything. You two deserve this after winning the game yesterday. Enjoy your time! Adieu!"

Tia walked out of the bungalow, passing Madeline and Zane while being followed by the crew.

Madeline stared at Tia, who didn’t mention anything about hidden cameras or any tapping device, so she asked, "Is there any hidden camera in this bungalow?"

"Gosh, no!" Tia turned her back and smiled at Madeline. "This is a reward for you. Of course, we won’t do something so impolite, right?"

"Guess all the hidden audio recording devices in my bungalow were just an illusion, huh?" Madeline sneered.

Tia’s lips twitched. She heard about this problem but was also ordered not to talk about it. So she shrugged and said, "It’s definitely just an illusion. Gee, Madeline, you like to make drama, huh?"

Tia ignored Madeline and Zane and walked away with the film crew, leaving the lovebirds alone in their nest.

Madeline walked into the bungalow first, followed by Zane, who closed the door behind them.

She looked around the area and told Zane, "Help me find any hidden camera or tapping device. Those bastards must’ve put them somewhere."

"Did your bungalow get taped in the resort area?" Zane asked.

"Yes, Jasmin and I flipped the entire bungalow upside down just to destroy any hidden audio or video recorded," Madeline replied. "And I’m damn sure they put some in here. After all, who wouldn’t want to listen to Zane Eastwood having sex? Your fangirls will go feral listening to you moaning and grunting, and I don’t want this to ruin your career."
